What are human rights? I see human rights as it being the rights that everyone should have and rights that should be respected by everyone. On the tenth of October 1948 the declaration of human rights was made and this was basically thirty human rights that were written on a piece of paper. And from this point on the human rights were official but it was not a law. Therefore there are still many people who don’t follow these rights and don’t treat people equally. Due to this hundreds of people stand up for the rights of others and their own rights. They do this by protesting and sometimes showing how humans in certain places are living to the public to raise awareness.

In the novel Trash Raphael had been tortured, beat up and threatened of execution. This was all because of him finding evidence that would prove the corruption and unveil the truth behind their dirty work. Therefore when Raphael learnt the truth they wanted him to be killed and scared to tell the truth so that he would not expose the truth. The same punishments were set out for Jośe Angelico as-well but instead he was actually executed. Jośe was also being hunted down for the same reasons, and this was him to not be able to expose the truth.

I believe that the reason for people not valuing the rights of others is because they don’t care about the wellbeing of others just as long as they themselves are respected. There are a lot of places where human rights and in particular the right of being free from torture and punishment is not valued. These places tend to be places where there is corruption in the government and more than often 3rd world countries. This is because people are already living a hard life and some people want to take advantage of them. There are many different reasons for people abusing the rights of others; some may abuse the rights of others to take advantage of them. Whereas other people may do it to gain power by making people scared of them. By this I mean that human rights are not abused for one set reason
