Given, Earned Respect is earned through hard work and dedication, and should be given to keep society running smoothly. However, respect is more than leaving someone alone or not saying anything negative when someone voices their opinion. It can be considered a form of consideration of someone. Consideration comes in many colors for different people. For example, a pregnant cancer patient must respect her own life while also considering the life of her unborn child (Jeannie). One would have to understand and respect how difficult the decision would be for such a terrible situation and the pregnant patient would know the saddening fate for either her or her child. Understanding someone and their little joys in life can also show how a person truly is and how they are as people, which can lead to them earning respect from others (Chuck). Nowadays, we can see that some people have complete disregard for respect in their daily lives. Whether you are walking down the street, with friends at the mall, or sitting at favorite restaurant, …show more content…
We assembled at our favorite place as kids: my driveway. It was a wide and long driveway big enough for us to ride our bikes around without having to go in the street. The trees seemed to sulk and sway lazily with the wind. I could hear the thunder creeping him behind the quiet cracks of lightning. He got out of his car and he walked over to me, looking down at my feet. I began my apology with what grandma had told me and why I felt so deleterious toward his life. He looked at me and laughed then he hugged me. He told me, “Even if the world blew up in a heartbeat, you would be the first person I look for in heaven.” He may have been my cousin, but he was also my brother, and he was my friend. Like Chuck said in his adaptation of “This I Believe,” you cannot be mad at someone for the imperfections they have, you have to respect their joys in life and want them to be
In daily life showing respect is easy. For example, holding the door for someone and not letting it slam in their face, giving up your seat on the bus to the elderly or someone else who needs it, or by simply ignoring an opinion that may differ from ours instead of berating the original poster on why they are wrong. With a little bit of respect for one another we can all make the world a better place for everyone that lives on Earth.
Respect is something as simple as treating everyone equally regardless of age, colour, weight, beliefs, gender, sexual orientation and so on. If Irene is respected, she will feel more comfortable in her environment and less stressed (Gallagher, 2007).
Everyone wants to be respected. It’s in our nature, but in order to obtain respect, first of all one has to respect oneself. Second, one has to show respect to others in order to gain respect from them. If one doesn’t show respect to someone, that person may often feel blown off and lose respect for you. Respect in my eyes is like a math equation loyalty plus duty equals respect. respect is gained in conducting ones self in a way that others can stand
In Abuela Invents the Zero, by Judith Ortiz Cofer, a common theme of respect can be seen. If you treat people without respect, you will lose respect for yourself. For starters, Connie disrespects her grandmother by saying, “I realize to my horror that my grandmother is lost. She can’t find her way back to the pew. I am so embarrassed that even though the women next to me is shooting daggers at me with her eyes, I just can’t move to go get her” (Cofer 14). This reveals that Connie is very embarrassed that her grandmother is lost in a huge church that she’s never been to before. She should be helping her grandma find her way back to their pew, yet heaven forbid someone will see her helping her elderly grandmother, perhaps someone would make
When talking about the word respect, numerous individuals have no clue what it implies. This word changes its meaning depending on who is inquired. Several people, even ones who comprehend what respect implies, still have no respect for anyone else. A two-way streak that everyone appears to overlook is respect. The word respect has a one-sided meaning to it, as an consequence of all the disrespect around the world. Respect has different opinions, gone through history, and help shape famous quotes.
* Respect. Respect each individual with the same respect as you would like to be respected.
Respect is a word that many people hear every day but do not understand the true meaning of it. Respect is not only for the people of “high class”, but it is for anyone who is willing to sacrifice something in order to receive the honor of being respected. When receiving the title of being respected it can be lost quicker than the blink of an eye, such as Abigail in The Crucible, who has no power in Salem until she starts accusing people of witchcraft. After that is done she is the biggest name in the Town, and she is obsessed with keeping it that way.
I believe many of the basic fundamentals of human service, such as confidentiality, empathy, and even antonym, can fall under the umbrella of respect. If I truly respect, another I will not try to force my own agenda, and if I truly respect another, I will keep in confidence the information they have shared. I believe that respect is a right that should be granted to everyone without limitations, however, respect doesn’t require agreement or even acceptance. I have developed the ability to respect the views of others without conforming, which for me is a true sign of personal growth. The last two years has taught me that I can find validation without conformity, and that I can respect and even admire the diversity of
In society today it is common for someone to be respectful to their elders or told to do so, but when we are respectful to our peers and those younger or “below” us it shows great character. People want to be respected and seen as grown up, and the best way to do that is to be respectful to others. The best way to earn respect is to give respect. People always say that we reap what we sow and respect is a great example of this. When we are respectful to other they will, in turn, be respectful to us. Someone with strong character is respectful and grateful to others. Benjamin Franklin is a great example of a person with strong
In other cases respect is earned, and not given. What I mean by this is that, sometimes people must gain the respect of others. This can be earned in many ways, like being respectful of others, being the best you can be, and doing kind things for others. This respect can cause people to look up and follow in example of someone, and eventually making you an example for others to follow and look up to, on so on and so forth.
Respect is holding something or someone in high regard. Respect has an impact on all aspects of my life, both personally and professionally. As a personal value, respect is twofold; I must respect everyone around me as well as respecting myself. I will demonstrate respect for others by treating everyone equally and without judgement. I will listen and be considerate of the opinions and values of others, regardless of conflicting opinions. I will respect myself by dressing modestly and not objectifying myself as a woman. I will not engage in any unethical behaviour that may compromise my personal morals and values.
Most people go through life and always hear about the word respect, but they don’t know what it means. Respect is the esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person. There are things in life you need to hold in respect. Respect for yourself, respect for others, and respect for property. Respect is taught to people everywhere and it is even taught to them in their religions. Respect is the very aspect that keeps everything in your life.
Respect shows the inner-self’s esteem of excellence to a person. Respect gives personality out to an adult or another person. Respect
Within the last few years, I have noticed a horrific lack of respect by, well, almost everyone. I see it in the classroom as students talk back to the teachers, or in the halls where people are ridiculed for thinking differently than what is considered "The Social Norm". Students not only disrespect others, they disrespect themselves through the choices they make, such as using
As children we are taught to always show respect to those around us. We are taught to never say no to an adult, to listen and to use manners to everyone around us. But as we grow older we develop a sense of rebelliousness, and an urge to question every single moral and value we have learned.
