In this tragedy, two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, had an excessive amount of love for each other. Sadly, their love and their lives were cut short due to the fact that they were unable to be together. The unfortunate tragedy can be blamed on multiple characters in the play. Romeo and Juliet had their love kept a secret. Juliet is a Capulet and Romeo is a Montague, therefore they had to keep their love hidden since their families had a strong hatred for eachother. The Capulets and Montagues have been feuding for reasons they do not even remember. Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet, already had an arranged marriage for Juliet in which she would marry a man named Paris. Thus, Romeo and Juliet had to be together without anyone knowing. He did not try hard enough to stop Romeo from being hasty with Juliet. Adding onto the fact that the Friar is blameworthy, Jay proves “The action most damaging to the Friar...when he hears the Watch approach and hurries away from Juliet, leaving her alone in the tomb with the body of Romeo aslant upon her” (Jay, 33). In this quote, Jay explains how the Friar was not there for Juliet. He was unsuccessful in helping her since he knew that Juliet’s lover, Romeo, died. He should have been there to support Juliet because her true love is dead. The Friar was being self-centered by fleeing the tomb for his own sake of not facing consequences from the Watch. Jay also gives an explanation to another point about blameworthy characters. He blames the Nurse when he says, “The Nurse shows her true colors when Juliet appeals to her for aid and counsel after her parents demand that she marry Paris...How does she respond? By telling Juliet to go ahead and commit bigamy-that Romeo is dead or as good as” (Jay, 34). This quote implies that Juliet needed help with her love situation, so she went to the Nurse. The Nurse knew about her secret love of Romeo, so Juliet thought the Nurse would help her since she trusted her with the secret of their forbidden love. The Nurse replied a careless answer that did not really help Juliet with her problem when she needed it most. Mittelstaedt also brings out a good point that blames Friar
While he thought that it was a good idea to let Juliet fake her death she wrote a letter to Romeo, that friar was supposed to go give to Romeo because in act 5 scenes 2 it says that. “friar was unable to deliver the letter informing Romeo that Juliet that is not actually dead”. So the blame should mostly go to friar cause if he would of just sent the letter to Romeo than Romeo and Juliet would have go married and no one would have died and they live happily ever after. Although he didn’t get time to go deliver than Romeo wouldn’t have killed
Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, two star-crossed lovers, will do anything to show their deep affection for each other. Since they are from two different families, who happen to be enemies, they can be punished for expressing their love for one another. Unfortunately, their passion sparks many outrages. Due to Father Capulet’s feud with the Montague family, Romeo and Juliet's love life results in death.
This play is about a boy named Romeo and girl named Juliet. Their family are mortal enemies so that means that they are always fighting with one another. At a Capulet party Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time not knowing who each other are, until later that night that they are enemies. They begin to fall in love with each other and get married after meeting for one night. Then the drama gets to their head and they kill themselves. In Romeo and Juliet Capulet’s and Montague’s, Friar Lawrence, and Balthasar are responsible for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet first met each other at a party at the Capulets house. They fall in love with each other at the first sight without knowing that they are from families who hate each other, and when they do learn about it, it is too late. Juliet realizes that it was a mistake to fall in love with Romeo, because he is one of the people she should watch out for. He is her first and only love, but he is an enemy of her family. Lucky for Romeo, Juliet is smart, and such dumb thing as hate between their parents wouldn't stop her from loving Romeo and getting married with him. She is sorry that their families are enemies, though, because everything would be much easier if they weren't. So this is the first time when the hate between Capulets and Montagues becomes problem to Romeo and Juliets happiness. Only after their children die, the Montagues and Capulets come to their senses. The Prince accuses them of killing Romeo and Juliet. The Prince makes them see how wrong they were all the time, that all because of their hate, because they couldn't let their children love each other, Romeo and Juliet died. After that, Capulets and Montagues decide to call it quits. No more fighting, and Montague even says that he will make a gold statue of Juliet, but what is that going to do? It is too late, nothing will bring them back. It is totally Capulets' and Montagues' fault that Romeo and Juliet died. If they didn't hate each other so much,
Romeo, the lover of Verona, and Count Paris, the ideal partner in marriage, are intertwined in fate and are seemingly made opponents of love in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, son of Lord and Lady Montague, falls in love with Juliet, daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet. Due to the fact that the Montagues and Capulets still sustain an ancient feud between their households, Romeo and Juliet keep their love a secret. Unaware of their daughter’s love to Romeo, Lord and Lady Capulet make plans to wed Juliet to Count
Juliet’s father forces Juliet to marry Paris, and if she does not he threatens to leave her to ‘hang, beg, starve, die in the streets’. This arranged marriage with one she does not love compels Juliet to find an urgent resolution, and this resolution contributes to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The families’ feud contributes to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, as they know that their relationship must remain unknown. The feud leads to delusion and deceit, and their eventual death. Ultimately, the feud between the families makes their deception necessary and inevitable; but this deception leads to their untimely deaths.
The play, Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is about a tragedy of two star crossed lovers who want nothing more than to be together forever. “…Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.” (2.2.35-36) Romeo, a Montague, who is young and passionate, meets Juliet at a Capulet party. When they meet, it’s love at first sight. Juliet, a Capulet, is a beautiful young lady tired of being controlled by her father, Lord Capulet. The two families are in a never ending feud that comes between Romeo and Juliet’s love. In the course of four and a half days, Romeo and Juliet plan their marriage with the help of Priest Friar Laurence and Juliet’s Nurse. After the couple is married,
In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare explores the tragic story of two star-crossed lovers. Set in the Northern Italian cities of Verona and Mantua, tells the story of Romeo and Juliet and their love for each other, even though their families are enemies. For generations the Capulets and Montagues have been at each others necks over everything, but this does not stop the two star-crossed lovers. Meeting one another at a masquerade ball and falling in love overnight. These two lovers do countless things behind their parents back and keep numerous amounts of secrets from their loved ones. Making multiple decisions without thinking of the consequences leads them to their tragic ending. So,
The love that Romeo and Juliet had was very intense they weren’t supposed to be together because of family feud. The capulets and montagues are two different families that have different things that aren 't common on each other. Due to this Romeo and Juliet are conscious that what they have can 't happen but true love can cause people to take many risk. For example Romeo and Juliet can’t be together but they can decide to be together without there parents knowing that they feel in love and that they are planning to get married without their parents permission because their love is more important than what their families think about the difference and
Within the play, Romeo, a young Montague boy, and Juliet, a youthful Capulet, meet at a party thrown by the Capulets. The two quickly fall in love, only finding out later that each belonged to a family that has been despised by their own family for years. Nonetheless, the two lovers continue to see each other after the party, and within the span of a day they have decided they want to get married. But for this to work, they both know
In the story, Juliet awakens to a dead Romeo. When the Friar comes to warn her that The Watch is coming to the tomb, she is heartbroken and doesn't want to leave. As The Watch starts to get closer, the Friar tells Juliet “Stay not to question, for the watch is coming./ Come go, good Juliet, I dare no longer stay” (V.iii.158-59). If the Friar was willing to give up his title and help get Juliet safely out of the tomb, she would still be living. But all he did was think about himself and not the bad condition Juliet was in. Not to mention, Juliet is only 13 years old and the Friar is a grown man. Juliet has the whole rest of her life to live. And more importantly, the Friar should have put into perspective the maturity of Juliet and realized he should not have left her alone. Therefore, the Friar is the one he ends up putting Juliet in the position to kill
The nurse means well, and has Juliet’s interests at heart, but is not a very good mentor either. “I think it best you married with the county. Oh he’s a lovely gentleman. Romeo’s a dishclout to him (Shakespeare 204). The nurse is insulting Romeo in this quote and is telling Juliet that it’s best to marry Paris because he’s lovely and that Romeo’s a dishcloth compared to him. Also, considering the nurse’s position as a maid and how she immediately changes her mind about Romeo, she isn’t a good mentor. “These griefs, these woes, these sorrows make me old. Shame come to Romeo!” (Shakespeare 160). The nurse finds out about Tybalt’s and comes home to tell Juliet about it, while also shaming Romeo. Later on the nurse’s mood changes so quickly and instead of insulting Romeo she says she’ll bring him here to comfort Juliet. The nurse changes so quickly, but it is so Juliet won’t stay mad at her, not out of her own will.
Romeo and Juliet is a play about two star crossed lovers the are from families that do not like each other. In the play Romeo and Juliet first meet at Capulet’s party, but Romeo was the secretive because he is a Montague and Capulets hate Montagues. Romeo’s friends told him to go to find a girl to help him get over Rosaline and that's exactly what happened. Once he
The Nurse concedes this proposal because of her motherly affection towards Juliet, as it is in her best interest and desires to witness Juliet wed with a genuine love rather than an arranged agreement. Although this can be seen as an congenial gesture, it completely rescinds the social discourses of the time, consequently justifying that the Nurse is not a great advisor unlike the Friar. The first exposure to the Friar shows his careful, wise manner and his obvious care for Romeo’s best interests rather than his own satisfactions. This characterization of Friar Laurence is greatly flawed due to his impetuous thinking when put under the pressure of having two teens approach him with the intention of killing themselves, as he attempts to guide Romeo and Juliet during their struggles. Shakespeare laminates the Friar with fault as he is arguably the incentive, along with the nurse for Romeo and Juliet's cessation, hence becoming the rationale of their declivity.
The Nurse is the only other person that knew about the secret relationship between Romeo and Juliet. She was sort of Juliet’s messenger in the story, she told Romeo about the marriage and when he was going to see Juliet again. Then towards the ending of the story she started realizing that Juliet’s parents were not going to let her marry anyone but Paris. So Nurse tried to help Juliet realize that, and it only made Juliet more upset and run off to Friar. When Juliet was upset she told Nurse that she was going to pay respects, nurse knew that wasn’t true and did nothing about it, if Nurse would have stopped Juliet from going to Friar she could have prevented the whole plan and stopped the events leading to Romeo and Juliet’s death. But Romeo and Juliet made it very difficult for the Nurse and Friar help them because they wanted nothing but to be together and they wouldn’t wait for anything.
