The Indiana state fair incident occurred in August of 2013. This tragedy could have been prevented if all parties involved would have effectively communicated with one another. Throughout the entire day the National weather service was updating and predicting warning signs. “At approximately 8:15 the state fair officials are informed a severe storm is approaching the concert area. If indeed the storm does strike it would be 30 minutes after the concert is scheduled to begin” (). At this point Cynthia Hoye director of the state fair should have improvised; It was her job to ensure everyone was safe. Furthermore if she didn’t want to cancel the concert she should have immediately called in her crisis management team to discuss a plan if a
The State Fair of Texas has been a family tradition for me and my family for many years but this year I was able to pass the tradition on to my friends. The State Fair of Texas is in Dallas Texas at Fair Park and consists of multiple rides and food and most importantly the famous Ferris wheel. One of my favorite parts of the fair is all of the amazing and different kinds foods they have available to try. The people who came with me were some of my friends from college, some of which who have been to the fair and some who have never been. Another fun part of that day was the drive up to the fair and back to Waco. I was the one who was driving the car so that always comes with its perks and responsibilities, still the drive still consisted of much enjoyment and laughter. A good road trip to the fair with friends needs to bring everyone closer, cause a great amount of joy or happiness and laughter, and must be with a great group of friends. My recent trip to the state fair with my friends is the perfect example of a road trip with friends due to all of us becoming a lot closer to each other, the great enjoyment and happiness of our group of friends, and the group of friends that made it such an amazing and unforgettable trip.
Katrina was a crisis primarily because of its scale and the mixture of challenges that it posed, not least the failure of the levees in New Orleans. Because of the novelty of a crisis, predetermined emergency plans and response behavior that may function quite well in dealing with routine emergencies are frequently grossly inadequate or even counterproductive. That proved true in New Orleans, for example, in terms of evacuation planning, law enforcement, rescue activities, sheltering, and provisions for the elderly and infirm.
Since its establishment in 1886, “the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment.” (“2016 Guide” 6). The Texas State Fair is a staple of Texas tradition and even became a historical landmark in 1986. The fair is known for its signature 55ft figurehead Big Tex. He greets his guests with a signature “howdy y’all” while sporting some of the fair’s sponsors like Dickies and Chevrolet. The fair seeks to embody the spirit and uniqueness of Texas. It does this by celebrating its four core values of tradition, agriculture, education and community. The fair serves as a non-profit organization that strives to educate and raise money for each of these standards.
We have come to a time where it is imperative to reset our courses associated with the safety of the employees, the safety of the brand and the longevity of the company alongside their competitive edge. As senior manager, consideration should not be limited to solely short-run solutions. It is primary for the company’s decision makers of all tiers manage the negative and positive potential of any crisis as time can carry the possibilities of unknown limits. Accommodations must be made for the entire community (Senior Management, Ergonomists, Labor Leaders, Politicians of the city, Service Staff, Human Resources and Line Management) under the company’s payroll that has been affected by this natural disaster using our revised Crisis Management Portfolio.
The local government wasn’t prepared ahead. “New Orleans' levee system had given way, no official called for urgent help”. This quote states that not only did the local government not ready in advance but were also delaying
The State Fair, for many years, has brought together people from statewide, even nationwide. Coming from Texas, I have been a part of the tradition of extravagant state fairs since I was as child, and have had the pleasure of meeting people from all over the nation. State fairs have many attractions that convey the beauty and culture of the state in events and contests which show the production of agriculture and, in the twentieth century, industrial gains. The fairs typically consist of things such as carnivals, which have numerous rides like we see in the film, State Fair, and contests that promote a culture of domesticity. The film, State Fair, is a perfect example which explains the importance of the state fair, but also American society and culture. Furthermore, State Fair being filmed after World War II truly captures the happiness of postwar America, as well as the importance of family life as the shadow of the Cold War looms.

In the article “Pummeled Florida Staggers Toward Long Recovery” by Alexander Burns, informs the reader that Florida took most of the hit from hurricane Irma and it will take a long time for everything to be better. Beside Florida, three other states were on alert of strong winds and a tornado. To start with, hurricane Irma cause heavy rains, so that caused severe damages with the water and an amount of people weren’t able to evacuate. Due to this, the damages are going to cost repairs. Also, it turned off power lines. In consequence places are on alert. This is a awful event and it will take about a week, so we need to be alert.
Today marks the day where the state fair comes to town and they released a new ride called “Erikson’s ride”
My current event article is on the Oklahoma State homecoming incident. This took place on Saturday October 24, 2015. This horrific event occurred during a homecoming parade, when The Oklahoma State Cowboys were about to face the Kansas Jayhawks in a friendly college football matchup. In the middle of the parade, a driver by the name Adacia Chambers (25) ran into a crow- full of people. There has been four confirmed deaths; one including a toddler. There have been over 50 reports of injuries and five of the people are in critical condition. The girl has been charged with DUI and is in jail. More charges could pile up on her if more witnesses come forward and if the police find out what her intent was, or if she just did the crime by accident.
I know that before I go on a trip that I always check the weather, because I have been stuck on vacation in miserable weather too many times. The author gives the example of the Republican convention in Florida during
It is vital for the survival of mankind that we respect and understand the severity and danger of natural forces and weather conditions. Although advances have been made in the predictions and warning systems of the National Weather Service, or NWS, we must be vigilant in our efforts to always respect what is coming. It is also imperative that we learn from the mistakes we have made in the past and grow from them. One such piece of literature which can help to do this is "Storm Warnings: The story of the a Killer Tornado", by Nancy Mathis, which depicts an amazingly horrific incident where mankind was not prepared for what was coming. The following is understanding of the events that took place on May 3rd, 1999, which showcased an amazing, and terrible, spectacle of tornadoes in Oklahoma. Furthermore we will delve into what has changed since this to better our understanding of upcoming weather related dangers as well as planning for said forces of nature.
On August 13, 2011, 7 people were killed and 58 were injured during a stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis (Crandall, Parnell, & Spillan, 2013). The crisis occurred just prior to the start of a concert by performing country artist Sugarland. Concert goers, approximately 12,000 of them, were assembled outside awaiting the start of the concert (Crandall, et al., 2013). Around 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the concert, officials at the state fair were made aware of a potential severe storm with estimated winds at 60 miles per hour (mph) approaching the concert area (Crandall, et al., 2013). According to Crandall, et al. (2013), the concert officials requested for a delay in the concert, however, the band managers
In today’s world, there has been one disaster or another, and hurricanes are one of those disasters that always happens. But, for one reason or another we are never prepared or understand the danger of any type of hurricane over a category one. Most of us have been through many hurricanes, like this learner who has lived in Miami, Fla. for over 30 years, and experienced her last hurricane which was Hurricane Andrew. Warnings are always given, first responders are trained to all ways be on alert, and FEMA is supposed to be ready to jump in once the storm has done its damage. But we can never be prepared, because hurricanes are unpredictable, and can become deadly for citizens and create millions of dollars in damages. Within this post we will discuss Hurricane Katrina, preparedness and Emergency management before and after the disaster.
After a powerful tornado, 60% of businesses and a residential area have been destroyed. This has led to a series of negative events that need to be dealt with. These events include the town having no working lights, reports of residents' children and spouses missing, and even reports of gunfire. At this point, the state is aware of the disaster that has hit this town and the Governor is activating the National Guard. Beyond these initial steps, no further action has been taken, and I must respond immediately to deal with the crisis at hand.
