America’s past begins with the Indians, from East to West, the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Coast, Indians roamed the land. The Indians were humble hunter gatherers that believed highly in the power of nature. Tribes were known for something: be it war-like as the Apache were, traders like the Sioux, farmers like the Navajo, or they built good sturdy homes like the Locata. Each tribe recognized their own unique traits and similar social structure.
Indian tribes had a leadership made up of the Chief and Tribal Elders who usually utilized a shaman or some spiritual guide of the tribe to give the Council of the Tribe spiritual advice.
The Indians were fond of bows and arrows, spears, blades, tomahawks, rocks, even slingshots. These weapons would be used primarily for hunting, self defense, and ceremonies.
The Indians claim Tribal boundaries through North America and from them we have music, culture, food, and spirituality.
Settlers began arriving in North America from all over Europe. Everyone knows the rhyme “Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hundred ninety two (1492)”. Columbus discovered Central America and it wasn't long before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.
The Colonial era had begun and brutal conflict

America did not reach global superpower status until after World War II. Though it was obvious in World War I, everyone saw America flex its muscles for the first time aside from isolated conflicts with Mexico, Cuba, and a small disagreement with Canada. At the time these countries were not major players in the world. The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, which one of the greatest Presidents of America has ever had said was “An unprovoked and dastardly attack”, which took place on Sunday December 7th 1941. On December 8th. 1941, America declared war on Japan. Germany declared war on the United States and the rest is

Throughout human civilization, each unique civilization has its unique origins and the Native Americans are no exception. While the origins and history of many Asian and European countries are well known, the origins of Native Americans are not. Many theories exist about how the Native Americans’ ancestors arrived in North America but the widely accepted theory is the one I will discuss.
Before 1492, when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, there were many tribes living in North America. Two equally similar and different ones were the Iroquois tribe and the Cherokee tribe. On one hand, they are similar because of their geographies and their economies. On the other hand, they are different because of their cultures and religious beliefs.

As humans, one of our most important natural instincts is survival. The Indians were an ancient people who were developed important survival skills and pass them down to the next generations. They were mostly hunter-gatherers with simple yet efficient lifestyles usually supported by the agriculture and wildlife. They were able to conserve water from streams, springs, and rainfall for irrigation, weave baskets to store foods derived from wild plants, and eventually create pottery, a more efficient way to store or retrieve resources. They did not wear a lot of clothing, but what clothing they had was from the hides of animals, woven from plant fibers. They were expert hunter-gatherers and created their own weapons such as spears, bows, and arrows. Some tribes were known to have tracked their prey and
During the sixteenth century European pilgrims migrated across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in North America. North America had just been introduced to the Western Civilization. The America’s were home to the indigenous people, that were made up of several tribes that were called Indians by the early settlers. Together the Indians and settlers began to thrive. Growth and development in the new world was made possible by the abundant amount of natural resources.
American history frequently centers on the issues of ethnic diversity and resource allocation. In the contemporary, we begin to see the experiences of the Native inhabitants of the Americas in contrast to European settlers and colonizers, is a prime example of this process in motion. When European settlers first arrived to the New World in the 15th century, firstly the Spanish, they brought with them a material cultural based upon an economic standard of resource exploitation, which in a sense was hostile to most of the Native peoples of the Americas. For instance, as Blackhawk notes that, Europeans built permanent settlements consisting of immovable structures, whereas many of the Great Basin peoples were semi-migratory in nature. Additionally, as Europeans claimed possession over the land, its resources, and began a process of territorial delimitation, Native peoples whose lives
The Sioux indians were a very proud people and still are today. With some of the most well known chiefs in history it's know wonder why. The sioux indians culture was based on many things but the four main aspects their culture are language, family, and religion. I firmly believe that the leadership of the sioux tribe was the reason that they have stayed a very strong people even today.
The Cherokee Tribe used many different weapons in everyday life. They used hammers and many axe type weapons; blowguns with poison darts; and bows and arrows. Each weapon was made a certain way and used for specific things. The hammers they used were to help build the other weapons and tool to hunt animals and battle. They used the tools to also build huts to live in.
The Navajo Indians had to make their own weapons, such as the bow and arrow. The bow and arrow was one of the main weapons to use to kill animals. The Navajo Indians used other weapons like prayer sticks, claw dance stick, war shields, tomahawked,
The Native American Indian tribe called the Iroquois contributed greatly toward America. They have many stories about the world, and how things came to be the way they are. They have one story about the creation of the world. They use oral traditional elements in this story which is represented by nature. They also use a romantic aspect, which is represented by God’s and the super natural.
The most phenomenal thing about each individual culture though they may be similar in some ways they vary in the most impeccable manner that makes that group of people unique such as the Navajo Tribe. “The Navajo are natives of the Four Corners region (Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado). The Navajo people are still living in their traditional territory today. The Navajos live on a reservation, which is land that belongs to them and is under their control. The Navajo Nation has its own government, laws, police, and services, just like a small country. However, the Navajos are also US citizens and must obey American law.) Redish, L., & Lewis, O. (2011). Every belief or tradition are what make the very aspect
The Cheyenne tribe valued their freedom and their relationship with the created world. They hunted on horseback after acquiring horses from the Spanish. They relied heavily on buffalo. They lived in tepeess and often moved with the buffalo herds. Their clothes were made primarily of buckskin.
Although there are many social type organizations within a tribe, the Sioux have very distinct lifestyles. Most of the Sioux’s are close with their family and are loyal within those relationships. The majority out of their religions are Animism. Animism is when a person has a very religious or spiritual idea about the universe and that the universe has a soul and spirit itself. That is within the mountains, trees, animals, rivers, rocks, plus more. I am sure that there are also unknown religions and/or some of the tribal people are unaffiliated. When it comes to occupations, it is the typical mom stays at home and does house work and the dad is out doing the dirty work. The women are in charge of cleaning, cooking, gathering firewood, taking care of this kids, and making clothes and other items. On the other hand, the men hunt, fight in wars, and do negotiating with others.
Have you ever thought what makes up our culture? The American civilization is based on of a lot of different cultures: Europe, explorers, pilgrims and even Native Americans. While all of the factors affecting our culture are important and interesting, the Native American or Indiana culture is one of the most interesting, in my opinion. What made up their culture and what things happened to the Native Americans throughout the years is something we should all be aware of when considering our own culture?
