Industrialization affected several people in a variety of ways. The industrial period started roughly from 1760s and 1830. It first began rapidly in Britain. In the future around the 1800s steam power and iron production occurred. (The English Journal) Silas Marner is an book written by George Elliot. The book explores two separate places identifying class extremes and social ranking. Social ranking is defined as where you stand or fall in society. Social ranking can be based on income,class, birthplace and other factors. The story takes place in an environment where industrialization has just taken place. Industrialization affects the society due to bringing and ending many jobs. The main points will focus on how class and ranks in society affect everyone and the lives they live.Silas Marner moved to Raveloe just before the industrialization period so he was affected as well. Silas Marner associates with metallic money, theft, bribery and misery. (Pg 1-7) Silas Marner comes from a large industrial town he stayed with a smaller community, his religious sect. While his hometown is a portrait of the new industrialized city of the nineteenth century. His sect contains the fanatical evangelical or Purtian denominations that had challenged the established church of England since the sixteenth century.
