Innovation from the Point of View of Visual Arts

Art galleries are essential to the art world, however, is not the only source for audiences to view art. To begin with, art and artwork is defined as the application of human skill, creativity and imagination. Taking this into consideration, individuals need to examine the nature and purpose of art galleries as a facility to collaborate, organize and display a collection of artworks. As art however, is any expression of human creativity, its presence is not bound to art galleries and is evidently present in the world around us be it in photographs, the internet or even in graffiti.

I would define innovation as the ability to apply this creative thinking to an existing product, solution or approach that improves the outcome of a solution to a problem or usefulness of a product. Innovation is the ability to put creative thoughts to use in a way that is beneficial to a person, product, object, problem or situation. .

The difference between invention and innovation is an invention is something that can be patentable or the creation of a new product. An innovation would be a product that has been invented already but upgraded or enhanced to perform better. Both are similar because each time a product is invented or innovated a new discovery or creation is perceived.

Alongside the entrepreneur spirit, Innovation is the process of taking new ideas and implementing them into the market. Key word being “new”, an innovation can be sometimes viewed as the application to better solutions that meet new demand-requirements, inarticulated needs or existing market needs. Innovative ideas range from: goods, services, products, processes, services, technologies or ideas that create value for which customers will pay for. For an idea to be an innovation, it must be replicable at an economical cost and must satisfy a specific need. This means is that one must be ready and willing put their new idea to the test. On the other hand, there is recognition that “innovation is also critical to cultural, environmental, social, and artistic progress as well” (Bullinger, 2006). With this stated, high-tech innovation is ultimately the reason why we can be thankful for the many new conveniences of the 21st century. Although we might see the forefront of innovation being very prominent in today’s world, innovation is truly nothing new. From the start of modern man times, innovative ideas have paved the way for civilization to advance and develop into what we are today and at the same time, we have barely begin to chip away at the tip of the iceberg of our true human potential. Innovation. To some this word means a new idea or product. To me innovation means an improvement on the way that the world views something and inspires change. An innovation is as simple as the wheel or as complex as discovering how to map the human genome. Innovations have the power to impact the world in major ways. Even ideas or movements are considered innovations. The civil rights movement changed our country by opening the eyes of our citizens to the racial inequality that was occurring. It ignited change in the way we viewed each other as human beings.

Innovation is an idea that must be cost-effective and must gratify a precise need. Innovation includes careful application of information, imagination and creativity in stemming greater or different values from resources, and includes all processes by which new ideas are generated such as brainstorming and converted into useful products.

Innovation is either a new idea a more effective device or a more efficinet process. Innovation is viewed as an application of better solutions that can meet new needs, requirement, or currently existing market needs. This can be accomplished through more streamlined procedures and processes.

The word ‘innovation’ is derived from Latin word ‘innovare’, which means “to change something to new”. In other words, we may say that ‘innovation’ means changing the regular way of doing things and involves doing the regular things in a novel way.

As an example of public art in the UAE, is the camel caravan. It is a sculpture of a camel that is painted with colorful different shapes. There is several camels caravan located around the place, and each of them has a different unique style. I believe that public art should be reflective of traditional culture. The camel caravan also has a reflection on the cultural side that camels are very common and a known animal in the UAE.
