Chaos, according to many dictionaries, and even the passers-by in the street, is simply the lack of order or a state of disorder. Something that many people automatically think is negative, and something they try hardest to avoid. Who doesn’t like stability, and knowing where things are and what is going on at all times? However, it is of my opinion and definition that chaos is really a good thing, necessary for existence and life as we know it. Chaos is all-encompassing and unavoidable, a partner to order, and we wouldn’t be here without it.
The universe is never in a state of complete order. Sure, orbits around mother stars are organized, but hardly anything else is. Meteors and asteroids, stars exploding and imploding, none of it is particularly orderly. Fire can be considered an agent of chaos, as it disrupts the order things may be in. Insanity and mental instability can be considered chaos of the mind and soul, and there are a lot of people affected by such conditions. People themselves are chaotic and unpredictable—it is hard to tell who is going to do what at any time. The kid sitting next to little Jimmy can easily

Order, when things are going smoothly and without hitch; when things are ‘going according to plan’. Where every little piece is in its proper place with no outliers. Chaos and order are two extremes, which really, wouldn’t be able to function without the other. Without chaos, you get a never-changing, boring, grey existence. Without order, you get a never stable, volatile existence that is nearly impossible to exist in. With the two, you get a cycle that never really reaches one extreme or the other. Things might be orderly and stable at one moment with a few surprises thrown into the mix to keep things from getting stale. The next moment, things are chaotic, but there are life rafts within the chaos, little stable islands that a person can cling to if need be to get through the
Holden Caulfield is an insane person in a sane world. What is insanity? Insanity is when you’re in a state of mind that prevents normal perception, behavior or social interaction. This state is mental illness. Insanity is when you do things in deranged or outrageous ways that could frighten people, or make people feel uncomfortable when around you. It’s when you do things out of the ordinary; yet feel as if they are ordinary. Insanity could come about when you’re depressed, or after a traumatic event, and sometimes even by keeping all your feelings bottled up inside of yourself. Sane people are sensible, reliable, well-adjusted and practice sound judgment. It’s behavior that is expected in a society. By these
When some think of the word “insanity,” they think of crazy people, with impossible ideas and strange thoughts, perhaps people with a different way of thinking than most people do. However, what does one define as morally insane? Does the list just include cannibalism, does it extend to cold-blooded murder? In “The Most Dangerous Game,” also known by “The Hounds of Zaroff,” a short story by Richard Connell, the antagonist, General Zaroff can be perceived as insane. This is because the protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, discovers that Zaroff hunts humans for sport. However, I believe that General Zaroff is not insane, for multiple reasons. Three reasons are: clear thinking, lack of symptoms pointing to insanity, and Zaroff’s reaction at the end of the short story.
Amongst the buzz about Doctor Strange and Captain America 3, Marvel also announced the movie debut of a long-running but recently rebooted character by the name of Carol Danvers. Up until recently, Carol Danvers went by the name of Ms. Marvel and sported a skin-tight black leotard for a costume. However, in 2012 a writer named Kelly Sue DeConnick gave the character an updated look with a full body suit and a new name. Alex Abad-Santos uses Carol Danver’s history and her evolution into Captain Marvel in his essay “The Insane, Sexist History and Feminist Triumphs of Captain Marvel” to discuss the way women are portrayed in comics and how comic books reflect American society. Santos uses quotes from authors, provides panels from issues of Captain/Ms.
Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus is chiefly considered to be a horror novel. The books author, Mary Shelley, masterfully weaves a story that has petrified audiences for centuries with its grotesque nature and disturbing events. However it is clear that both the characterization of Victor Frankenstein and his fallen angel, the Monster, portray an additional frightening aspect of the story; their mutual descent into hysteric madness. With a deft hand, Mary Shelley successfully conveys the gradual downfall of both her protagonist and his spawn.
Mathilda, surprisingly, grows more and more attached to the dog, and with her attachment comes the beginning of chaos. The chaos starts with simple things, such as Mathilda losing at billiards and no longer remembering the order of the shooters, but it progresses to the point
In the novel of Lord Of The Flies shows a progression in which the government shows order at one point and chaos at another. The boy voted Ralph as leader of the group at the beginning of the novel, but then the character Jack, who opposed Ralph because things didn't go his way. This causes a distance between the group members, lead to chaos.
Order and chaos are two events that inhabit the world that surrounds us. Natural events, such as gravity, create order where our world has laws and principles. One the other hand, war, fighting, and disasters make up the chaotic aspect of our world. How both are found in this world we live in, the same two ideas of order and chaos, are found in Eamon Grennan’s “One Morning.”
The ambiguity of sanity or insanity is a prevalent theme in many literary works, from Shakespeare’s Hamlet to Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. In a well-organized essay, discuss how Ken Kesey questions the definition of sanity in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Then discuss how this ambiguity contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole. Throughout One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the story follows several patients in a mental asylum.
The tale One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey is full of insanity, manipulation, freedom and the lack of, power, and rebellion. It starts off in an Oregon psychiatric hospital with the main character “Chief” Bromden, a schizophrenic Indian man that pretends to be deaf and dumb so as to be ‘safely’ ignored, detailing th arrival of a new man.
Many stories have a horror theme, which show characters becoming insane. The examples of those types of insanity stories are, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, “Survivor Type” by Stephen King, and last but not least “The Others” which is based on a film by Alejandro Amenabar. Characters in the stories all develop insanity in different ways, but the characters live there life not knowing of their insanity, and those are Rainsford and Zaroff from “The Most Dangerous Games”, Pine from “Survivor Type”, and Grace from “The Others”. In the beginning characters are shown who they are and what they do to protect themselves and others. But what they actually don’t know is that as they protecting what that love most which is family and their
Insanity is a field of behaviours characterized by abnormal mental or behavioural patterns. It may be apparent as violations of societal norms, including a person becoming a danger to themselves or others. In modern usage, insanity is mostly seen as a term implying mental instability. Insanity is a recurring theme in Timothy Findley 's fictions. While he does not dispute its existence, the author brings into question its meaning and its role, as well as the values of the societies that seek to define it. Findley brings into question the meaning of this theme, both in a narrative context within his books and as a term in itself and within
Chaos is literally a lack of order. Without the proper individuals to reinforce order, chaos ensues. The state of nature is a dangerous place where violence, irrationality, and corruption triumph over law
Disturbing the universe is one of the main themes of Robert Cormier’s novel, The Chocolate War. Jerry Renault, the protagonist of the novel, goes against Trinity, the all boys school, and The Vigils, a powerful school gang. He gets admired and then bullied because of his defiance of authority.
Fear has affected everyone at some point in their life. Usually, it’s just a temporary feeling of extreme panic, a racing heart, and cloudy thoughts. However, what happens when this feeling is constant over a long period of time? That’s the case in William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, where a group of boys are stuck on an island after their plane gets shot down. Once they establish a rudimentary government with a boy named Ralph as the elected chief, everything seems to go fine for the boys until fear begins to encompass them. Whether it’s fear of a beast, the unknown, or even each other, this fear begins to tear away at the sanity of the boys until nearly all the boys become bloodthirsty, disorganized savages and join the tribe of a once reasonable boy named Jack. Overall, this novel shows how fear’s effect on perception and behavior causes people to stop being logical and reasonable, leading to the deterioration of a group’s order and people forgetting their priorities.
Society hinders of humans coexisting. If people did not live in a structured society than humanity as we know it could spiral into chaos and then extinction. This is because there would no longer be anyone reproducing, causing society to stop growing, as well there being no structure. Without structure life is chaos because no one has power and therefore no one can enforce rules or regulate jobs that need to be completed. Overall Aristotle is correcting in suggesting that people who live outside of society are bad people and do not contribute to the well being of society.
