Many different methodologies have been proposed over the years to try and create the proper interventions and plans related to health systems. Some have worked better than others, but in the end, it is clear that a lot of work still has to be done. One of the strangest norms that society has picked up is the ability to rightfully, or wrongfully blame the victim. That persons clearly obese because they had no self-control, or that person who got shot had it coming because they shouldn’t have been playing with the gun. The ability for society to lay blame on those who are the victims seems all to easy. I believe that everyone does it in some way shape or form. It is easy to say that someone had it coming, because it allows us to dissociate …show more content…
Rappaport also when on to say that when most people around you agree with what you are saying, you should worry. For the most part, I agree with what he is saying. If one finds themselves in the majority group, they should push their thinking in the “ignored direction”. The ignored direction is the missing piece of the whole story. Only then will one see the whole paradox, and be able to delve deeper into the underlying issues of society. Moreover, if we find out selves in the majority, our thinking is limited to that of the group, which means its more narrow and perhaps limited in scope. Sociel change however is not something that comes to a conclusion, and should be thought of as a process that is always changing and evolving rather than a mathematical equation with a result. The majority group may not be wrong in there way of thinking. Perhaps a better alternative to being in the majority group is acknowledging there point of view, and adding on to it by moving to look at the other side of the paradoxical issue, rather than ignoring them …show more content…
Rapport did a fantastic job of describing the health issues as dielectic. This idea that we have a problem that has different directions and sub issues, rather than one single problem that must be solved. In order to create proper interventions for society, ways of thinking and planning need to shift from convergent, one- sided reasoning, to divergent reasoning. We need to stop trying to work through this issue on a professional level because society is under the impression that the educated, high class individuals like doctors, layers, program managers, and other individuals will figure out these issues through research and careful calculation. This is convergent because we assume that it is an issue that will eventually be solved and everyone will live healthy and happy lives some day. So in order to understand what the issue is, we need to start looking in other places. Human being have been able to overcome some pretty devastating things. Whether its terrorist attacks, natural disaster, or widespread diseas, people have ther own ways of overcoming a lot of lifes problems without the assistance of physicians and professionals. In order to make positive impacts to communities, we have to look at what these individuals are doing right and try to build upon those strengths Most of what we know has come from expert designs to try and figure it out when in reality it is more artificial than
In general, significant and growing numbers of individuals and families face substantial economic challenges and as a consequence, mental health challenges. Lower income group including minorities and immigrants experience a higher burden of health-related concerns. People who are homeless do exhibit several of these risk factors because of their living situations, including alcohol and drug abuse, which is common in this neighborhood. Immigrants who do not speak English well may be afraid to seek mental health care if they are undocumented. For these reasons and more, the project is crucial to the underserved people of this community. The groups targeted for outreach through this project are among the most underserved and most vulnerable group
In our first week of class, we have looked at the first three chapters in, Health Care Delivery in the United States. The first chapter talks about how the health care system has moved from a mindset of restoring a person’s health, into the phase of preventative medicine, which we see now. This has resulted from measurement of how the health care system is working, and with research looking at patients throughout the years. We now know, that any problem, disease, or condition, should be treated early or prevented if possible. The health care system has been working with public education to make citizens aware of what tests and preventative programs will be of assistance to them. (Knickman & Kovner, A., 2015).
Intervention plans can impact health care in many ways, but successful plans may provide a benefit to either patients, facilities, or both. Evaluation of an intervention plan is necessary to determine its effectiveness and the value of the intervention’s impact in healthcare. In congestive heart failure (CHF) patients engaged through a telehealth program, the effectiveness of the plan revolves around the intervention components. Identifying outcomes and tools to measure the data obtained through the intervention will assist advanced practice nurses (APN) in identifying which aspects of the intervention provide the most benefit. The purpose of this paper is to describe methods to evaluate the effectiveness, identify short-term, intermediate,
In public health, as in many fields there are a set of conundrums that practitioners, leaders and law makers have to address in order to provide the most appropriate service to their populations. One of these conundrums is the battle between what is good for the community vs. what is good for the individual. This topic will be broken up to the community vs. the individual, and discussed based on research done by Kass et al, and Oriola, and will be concluded by presenting possible solutions.
In order to address this health issue, more proactive, evidenced-based, and community supported policies and initiatives are necessary. The more people and organizations that work together, the more potential for success.
How would you apply the lessons learned from this article to overcome political obstacles to another health initiative such as those dealing with obesity, climate change, HIV or other public health
I would apply the lessons learned from this article to overcome political obstacles to another health initiative such as those dealing with obesity, climate change, HIV or other public health problem:
When intervening with this population, the clinician is working collectively with the client and their environment to provide a multidimensional intervention to enhance their quality of life, mobilize strengths, establish relationships, and encouragement them to engage. The clinician may adopt a variety of roles throughout the process, depending on the diverse needs of the late adults. For example, if the client is old-old cohort, their families may need assistance navigating through the medical system, information about end of life decisions, palliative care, advanced directives, living wills, durable power of attorney, pain management. The individual
My grandmother is a good representative of the value of increasing her quality of life and maintaining her health. When my grandmother was in her sixties her doctor informed her that if she did not make some changes to her lifestyle she would develop diabetes. Knowing how hard it is for the average American citizen to change a habit like their diet, my family did not anticipate the changes my grandmother made. She began working out and followed a very strict diet. As a result, she is now in her eighties and does not have diabetes (Friedman, Bowden, & Jones, 2003).
The steps I could take to be a culturally effective health care provider in working with future non-English speaking clients is borrow the ideas mentioned in the article. For example, the article mentioned the following as a possible bridge. To narrow the gap, interventions can be used to increase communications, improve access to health information, promote the understanding of meaning from facts, and transfer knowledge to actions to reduce the negative impact of low literacy on patients’ access and use of health services (Institute of Medicine, 2004). With this thought in mind, I can become involved with such interventions by working for an employer or company whose mission is to provide service to the underserved
Public health leaders have prioritized CCL as an effective approach to improving population health, but to get to the health outcomes that we seek, the community and clinical sectors must get there by design. The design needed to improve population health must include seven strategies addressed in the CDC Practitioners Guide. The first of these seven strategies is to learn about the sectors. So, before implementing a community-clinical linkage, the first step is to learn about and identify the unmet health care services and social needs of the community, including existing resources, organizations, health issues, policy,
It is important to introduce the planned intervention programme in the start in terms of analysis of results. It is important because the measurement can be undertaken must be capable of being measured and can be related to the intervention. It is designed to produce behaviour changes or to improve health status among individuals. It may include educational programmes and stronger policies. Good inventions that have multiple strategies are typically the most effective in producing desired and lasting change. This is because it can reach a large number of people in a variety of ways
Food safety is one significant discipline that health inspectors are involved with. Health inspectors have an important role in ensuring that food safety is achieved by performing public health inspection interventions of food service establishments. There are several reasons to conduct inspections of food service establishments, such as ensuring compliance with regulations, but the main reason is to prevent foodborne illnesses from occurring. In doing so, health hazards can be prevented. With public health inspection interventions, food service establishments can be monitored to ensure compliance with the regulations, so that health hazards and foodborne illnesses do not occur (Health Inspections Canada, 2015). Some examples of this are serving potentially hazardous foods, and customers having E.coli 0157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes infections from eating improperly handled foods. In addition to the inspection, educating operators can be a part of the public health inspection interventions to further protect the public from foodborne illnesses. This
Interventions are really important. Any development delays must be addressed quickly and interventions should be introduced as soon as possible. Early interventions will help children develop good self-esteem. Interventions can be made by the school if they haven’t already been addressed before hand, although there is a wide range of professionals who have links to schools, some of which I have listed
When it comes to the topic of healthcare in the United States, most American’s readily agree that our country is in crisis. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of whether or not we can find a solution that works considering our limited resources. Whereas some are convinced the answer lies within government legislation such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, others maintain that the only way to repair our nation’s broken medical system is by taking a deeper look at the problem itself and focusing on the prevention of chronic disease (Winkfield, 2013). My own view is that while I strongly believe everyone should have equal access to quality healthcare, I also believe we need a system that works
