Introduction Dentistry is concerned with the health problems that relate to teeth, mouth, and the gums; it deals with correction and care of dental diseases. These aspects define the work of a dentist which relates to that of other healthcare providers such as physicians and nurses. Dentists are involved in diagnosing and treatment of mouth tissue problems. In addition, they contribute to preventive care; they advise the patients on how to ensure good oral hygiene, instruct them on the tight diet and the best ways to brush their teeth. They also perform surgeries on the gums and supporting bones. In summary, the activities of a dentist include an examination of patients’ teeth, filling cavities, repair of teeth that are fractured and removal of decayed teeth. Indeed, oral health contributes to the general well-being of an individual, and thus, dentists play an integral role in the delivery of health care. Dentistry involves a lot of dynamics, thus in order to understand the dynamics, the following is an interview with Dr. Richard Anthony, a dentist working in his own private …show more content…
My host pointed out that he interacted with the doctors working in the unit and inquired what dentistry was all about and its significance. It is through the queries that he realized that just like the other health professionals, dentists play a critical role in the provision of health care to patients. He also realized that many people could not access dental care. Thus, these revelations and his long term interest to make a difference in the world convinced him that dentistry was the best career for him. Also, Anthony learned that the work of a dentist was both an art and science. A science in that it deals with the health of the people and art because sometimes dentists are required to design models for replacing removed teeth, a common practice in cosmetic
A vocation as a dental hygienist offers an extensive variety of difficulties. In the dental office, the dental specialist and the dental hygienist cooperate to meet the oral wellbeing needs of patients. Since every state has its own particular regulations with respect to their obligations, the scope of administrations performed by hygienists shifts from state to state. A percentage of the administrations gave by dental hygienists might include: quiet screening strategies, for example, evaluation of oral wellbeing conditions, audit of the wellbeing history, oral tumor screening, head and neck investigation, dental graphing and taking circulatory strain and beat taking and creating dental radiographs (x-beams) evacuating math and plaque (hard

Dentist: specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders of teeth and tissues of the oral cavity
Dentistry is more than just the treatment of bad teeth. Dentistry is the evaluation of the whole mouth, or oral cavity. Dentists are medical doctors who evaluate the mouth to make sure it is clean and healthy. Dentists are able to examine a mouth, the teeth, and the tissues inside and determine if there is a disease or physical issue causing a problem. These doctors are then able to create a treatment plan to correct the disease or damage.
You have found a vacancy for a Dental Assistant and you know you are the perfect candidate, but how do you demonstrate this in an interview? A dental assistant is an important position in all practices. The ability to liaise with patients, prepare dental equipment and complete administration duties with ease are essential.
In the course of my work on this project, I had a firsthand understanding on the concept of dental emergencies. It requires precision, speed and the expertise of a
As an undergraduate student, I did not want to lose the training I had gained from my first dentist I shadowed. Thus, I volunteered to work as a student dental assistant and observed various dental procedures. The more time I spent shadowing Dr. Chun, the more my fondness for dentistry grew because I loved watching procedures such as a tooth restoration and tooth extraction. I loved being in the office and witnessing Dr. Chun alleviated the pain of her patients. Her desire went beyond fixing the oral problem but also she educated her patients on preventative measure. Dr. Chun taught me the importance of oral health, and how important it was to educate others on preventative measures. In the
This dental office is unique and inside it there are two distinct and opposite environments: the clinic space and the social space. The first is a rigorous, hygienic and professional space, mainly in white materials, that aspires to provide confidence and serenity to the patient. The second is a space for meeting, relaxing and enjoying, a way of distancing the patient from the clinical mind.
“You’re fine. Your wisdom teeth are just coming out.” This is what countless dentists told me upon assessing my mouth pursuant to complaints of severe pain. “The dentist said it is your wisdom teeth, so just be patient,” my mother reiterated in Arabic. I knew, despite my young age and lack of experience, that the pain I felt could not be the natural result of sprouting wisdom teeth. My stiff jaw ached constantly—and when it locked, as it so frequently did, I remember going through a bout of trauma feeling as if it would never unlock. However, the agony I endured, and the true diagnosis of my pain is what set me on the path of pursuing a career as a dentist.
Life has been an interesting, happy, and on occasion, challenging journey for me: despite the ups and downs, has made me extremely optimistic and excited concerning my future. Dentistry was not a career that I thought was possible until six years ago. Despite visiting the dentist only one time as a child, I have always had a fascination with teeth and oral hygiene. Graduating with a bachelor of Science degree was the first step in achieving my career goal. Obtaining my masters in Medical Science from Hampton University is the next step needed in my pursuit because it will strengthen me as an applicant for dental school. Performing well in a graduate program will show academic growth and dedication to obtaining a dental degree.

For effective communication, I will follow the guidelines by Miles (2008) wherein I will conduct the interview with a calm, non-judgmental tone. I will ask open-ended questions, allow them ample time to reply and all the while, will listen intently to what is said and how it is said. The interview revealed that for several days prior to the consultation, Rangi has been complaining of severe toothache in the area of the lower left quadrant causing loss of sleep. I will ask Rangi to point to me where it is “bothering” him, then ask him questions relating to the sensations he had noted. Rangi may not be very clear in describing the pain or its occurrence, however, it is important to involve him in the discussion to let him know his feelings are important. Cameron and Widmer (2013) view this as essential in building positive communication with young patients and their families while Wilkins (2013) states that this is vital in building rapport with the young patient.
For my health career, I decided to research information about dentists. One reason I decided to research this career trek was because although the category doers, which is the category dentistry is listed under, was not my highest scoring group, it was my second highest highest scoring category. Another reason I decided to look into dentistry as a health career is because I may be interested in pursuing orthodontics as a future career. Dentists diagnose and treat issues relating to patients teeth, gums, and areas of the mouth. They also give advice about how patients can take proper care of their teeth, gums, and diet decisions that may affect a person's oral health. Dentists use a variety of equipment, such as mouth mirrors, x-ray machines,
Teeth are the one part of your body which cannot heal itself. Oral health is an important and indispensable part of your general health and requires routine check-up. General dentistry in New York City has got a name for itself. It caters to the needs of the patients and treats them sensitively. There are a lot of oral issues coming up these days because of the kind of food that we eat and the neglect towards dental care due to lack of time. So, there is a need for regular visits to the dentists. By definition, general dentistry would include diagnosis, treatment and management of overall healthcare needs including fillings, root canal, crowns, bridges and veneer and preventive education. Most of the dental school students start working in general dentistry after finishing their graduation.
