Over the past semester in Economics I have invested in and monitored the stock market. I learned how investing in certain companies can be risky and proper research about the companies are detrimental before buying stocks. Three stocks that have influenced most of my financial earnings and losses include Twitter, Amazon, and Pepsi. I would like to introduce you to Twitter Inc., a modern and popular form of self-expression on the Internet. It provides users with a plethora of services including Twitter, an application that allows the user to share and distribute content to their followers. The company also owns Vine, a mobile application where users can create and share short looping videos, and #Music, another mobile application that …show more content…

Investors can also lose money by investing in the stock market. The two main ways to make money in the stock market is by buying a stock and it increasing in value and selling for a profit, or hold the stock you have and get paid dividends for owning a portion of the company (Sobczak 10). Owning stocks allow you to also sit in board meetings and vote on topics. There are many Cinderella stories about the stock market. Companies like Facebook, Apple, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts were once companies in someone’s garage that became publicly traded and became nationally known
Choosing two profitable stocks amongst a myriad of potential alternatives is a daunting task to say the least. In order to narrow my choices from thousands to two, I examined several aspects of companies I was interested in. Among these were, company overview, alpha and beta ratings, price ratios, price charts, and company headlines. After evaluating this information, I chose Intuit INC (INTU) listed on the NASDAQ and Johnson and Johnson (JNJ) listed on the NYSE.
Proclaimed as the hottest company since Google and Facebook, Twitter introduced a revolutionary micro-blogging service in 2006 that allowed users to spread and share short messages of 140 characters (“tweets”) with friends and strangers subscribing to follow their communication flow (as so called “followers”) in order to find out what is happening right now from any point of the globe.
In the beginning, there was no real stock market. However stock exchanges did take place in smaller groups and corporations. This all took place during the 1700's where stocks were already around for a long time before that but it wasn't really popular in the United States. Stocks originally started as auctions where traders called out names of companies and the shares available. There was a auction that took place and the shares went to the highest bidders.
The stock market has always intrigued me and I have since been eager to learn more about it. Starting back in January of this year, I ordered three textbooks on stock trading to become more informed on the subject. After reading these books, I gained further insight on stock trading which led me to open my own brokerage account where I could buy and sell stocks. I started by playing a stock simulation which was very similar in concept to StockTrak, a program we used in this class. I found that this helped provide me with a hands on experience which helped familiarize me with stock trading and learning how to manage and use my money efficiently. I continued to play this simulation for about two months and during this time my portfolio grew about 4%, which provided me a confidence boost and motivated me to invest in my real money into the stock market. In March of 2015, I officially began trading in the stock market and I continued to learn along the way. As of now, I have roughly nine months of stock trading experience. As stated previously, I have always had in interest in the stock market, but I never acted upon it until as recently as earlier this year. My interest in the stock market was peaked because I enjoy taking risks and the stock market
Using what I know about Costco and what the business is about I think Costco would be the right investment for me, because as I said earlier my family shops there. Even though Costco stock is going down in November, from the trend in the previous years shows that in early December the Costco stock is likely to go up and help me make some money. Another reason, why Costco is a good investment is that they have sound financials and there is a very low percent that Costco would go bankrupt, because the make over 150 billion dollars a year. Similarly, they sell food and people need food to survive so long as there are people on earth there would be a very low chance for Costco to go bankrupt. Using the blended approach helped me chose Costco to invest in, and now that I have invested in Costco I haven’t made much money. But like I said above the trend shows that the Costco stock tend to go up in early
Twitter is one of the most popular social media outlets in the world, having the ability to connect people from all over the world. Though the platform may have its perks, problems such as being limited to using very few characters, being fooled by fraudulent users, and being a detriment to your future career are all risks that one must choose to take. While Twitter may offers many benefits, one must realize all of the consequences that they may be faced with when joining the social media
Our approach is an active security selection with passive asset allocation. We invest heavily in common stocks, but vary our holdings to include companies of all sizes and industry groups. We seek to achieve sufficient diversification by abstaining from investing more than 5% of the total assets in a single security unless it has significant upside potential, and we make an exception for ETFs and index funds as they represent a basket of securities. Our main goal is to identify and invest in common stocks with high potential for both short- and long-term capital appreciation. Our secondary goal is to invest in common stocks with steady income. When potential for rewards are high, we also enter into derivative
There are many different ways to save money and there are different things to save for. A savings plan for an immediate want is apparently different than a savings strategy for retirement. One may choose to select stocks, bonds, or mutual funds for a savings strategy, however, my personal choice is to invest in bonds first, then mutual funds.

The world of stock investing has seen drastic changes since its popularization nearly two-hundred years ago. Currently, with the rise of big data in the age of information, one is better able to predict and understand the financial successes of certain companies and individuals in the stock market. One such advancement came from the introduction of value investing and the idea of intrinsic value – the underlying fair value of a stock based on its future earning power (Harper). One man, Warren Buffet, led to the rapid growth of value investing due to both his exceptional success and extreme transparency. This combination of success and transparency has given those interested in investing in the stock market a clear, yet successful path forward. His influence on investors, as well as the stock market itself, can be seen through the swift advancement of ‘Buffettology’, the study of Warren Buffett’s investing strategies, as well as the ‘Warren Buffett Effect’, an impact felt in the markets when Warren Buffett announces a change in his current position regarding stocks (Hyman).
