Is It A Land Made By Immigrants?

The United States is a country that was built on immigration. The first settlers, Native Americans, represent less than 2% of the total population; the remaining 98% of the population are immigrants or decedents of immigrants. Today, the US still has the highest immigration rate in the world with 757,434 naturalizations in the 2012 fiscal year only (US Naturalizations 2012, Department of Homeland security). People try to immigrate to the United States for many reasons. Some people immigrate because they have been granted a refugee status or asylum and other people immigrate to fulfill their dreams. Immigration has an effect on the American society and economy. The US cannot survive without immigrants.

The United States has been the land of opportunity for immigrants. It is a place where immigrants from all over the world come to build a better dream and future for their families and leave from poverty, they come with nothing but determination. One thing that every immigrant brings with them is their culture. A person's culture is strongly tied to the country where they grew up. It is tied to their relationship with their family. Many people come to America from so many different places all over the world. For this reason, people call America a melting pot of cultures immigrants are striving for a better future even though when they migrate to the USA they don’t know the consequences they will face and struggle to be successful living in the United States.

I want a better life, please don’t kill me, I want a better life, please don’t torture me, I want a better life, but I might have to starve to have one. Wanting a better life consist of being killed, tortured, and having to starve. Immigrants face these things when wanting a better life. Immigrants face many obstacles that they must overcome in order to better their lives.

This is the belief that many immigrants have about the United States. They naively believe for it to be the “land of opportunity”. Originally the United States was founded and settled by immigrants. Many immigrants, such as Mexicans, Eastern Europeans, Jews, and others from countries around the world came to America to escape war, poverty, famine, and/or religious prosecution. Some may not appreciate how difficult it actually is to make a name as an immigrant to the United States. While many Americans know how difficult it is to find a good job in the American economy today and most do not realize and understand how hard it is to get in to this country on your own. If and when some immigrants get into our country, they are automatically forced to start at the bottom of the “totem pole” as Howard W. In many cases the money is not enough to live off of and some people are forced to get a second or third job that only pays minimum wage causing not enough time for education and without any education they can not move up in their life and they will stay at the same level for there rest of their life’s, it will continue it is an ending cycle in this generations and will be continued in the future. Immigration has been a burning issue lately, particularly after Donald Trump’s immigration ban in the United States of America. It has been a topic that families discuss every morning with breakfast. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Coming from a family of immigrants, we haven't always been able to get through easily. When my parents first arrived, they tried to find work as fast as they can. Fortunately, they both found jobs at a factory. A few years later, my dad decided to join the military and is now working in construction while my mom and my two sisters were able to get jobs at a warehouse. Going from job to job, my family didn't really expect to get much from them, just as long as they were getting enough money to be able to afford the essentials to survive. The world has always debated immigration, yet never coming to a conclusion. On the one hand, there are some countries that have been more open to the idea and practice of immigration. Canada is a prime example. In other words, Canada is very supportive of increased immigration, believing immigrants offer special attributes that are beneficial to their community. In support, opportunities such as healthcare, language training, settlement, labor and employment, and social services are offered to immigrants of Canada. On the other hand, there are those with completely opposing perspectives. For example, within Mexico aid such as those given in Canada are "constitutionally prohibited, but increasingly tolerated" (Vengroff 145). In sum, Mexico frowns upon immigration so much so that, in their belief, if they offer no pleasurable opportunities, people will have no desire to immigrate to their country.

This is the land of opportunities! This misleading statement cost many. Forcing them into poverty, searching for food, trying to make with what they had. Trying there best to give their kids the benefit of the doubt, the life they never had. Many immigrants came to america from, the middle east, the Mediterranean, Southern and Eastern Europe and Canada, all wanting to achieve the same goal, creating a better life.

Immigration is a controversial topic that has impacted our society for decades perplexed by policies media coverage, perceptions based on one’s own lack of knowledge, personal experiences and a host of other factors that influence how our society views immigrants and immigration policies. The United States is a diverse population of people and filled with experiences that come from various walks of life that contribute to enhancing our social culture, economic development, and cultural acceptance.
