Lying also plays a part in what's wrong about plagiarism. If you submit an essay to your teacher/professor containing plagiarism, you are lying to them because they're expecting it to be your words and not anyone elses. It is like disrespecting the author and teacher/professor at the same time. That makes someone seem to be a terrible student and person at the same

I just got done reading an article called, “School Cheating Scandal Tests a Town’s Values” (Wilgorean). It was about sophomores at Piper High School in Kansas, that plagiarized on a biology project. In addition, the high school had a community board meeting. Many people showed up for the meeting. One of the teachers in the school found out that 28 out of 118 sophomores, copied different sections of the project on the Internet (Wilgoren). So, the students got zeroes and failed the semester. To plagiarize is to use the work of another and represent it as your own work. The overall concept is simple. Do not copy the work of another and use it as your own. It is commonly understood, although not always adhered to, that a student should not have another write their paper nor should they purchase a pre-written paper and turn it in with their name on it. Many students can lack an understanding of the more subtle aspects of plagiarism though. A common misconception is using the work of another and simply rephrasing it or using quotes around the portion of the work of another but not citing that source. In these cases, a student might not realize that they may be plagiarizing another author.

Some other ways are when you put somebodies quotes into your writing and you don't give them credit for the information. Another way that you could be plagiarizing is when someone takes paragraphs/sentences from an article and puts them into there writing and switches a few words around and then claims it as there own. The final way that you could plagiarizer would be if you had a text book or website and you put info into your writing in your own words and then you did not site them.

Plagiarism is using information that is obtained from another source without giving credit to that source. This can mean using the exact words of another writer, or it can mean taking the ideas of another writer and putting them into your own words. This is known as paraphrasing. In both situations, students should make sure they indicate the name of the writer and the location of the article they found it in. If students do not include this information, it is a form of stealing. The concept of stealing something that is intellectual property may be unusual for some students to understand at first, but it is really quite simple. The ideas and words that someone else has taken the time to compose belong to that person. To use those ideas and words without giving credit to that person is like stealing that writer's work. That is why it is important to let your reader know where you got the original idea from. It is not difficult for students to avoid plagiarism as long as they understand what the concept means. Once they understand what it means, they can learn how to avoid it in the ways this paper will show.
