Cory Doctorow once said, “this I why I loved technology: If you used it right, it could give you power and privacy.” The idea is not about the choice to use it or not use it; it’s about using it right. Technology brings excitement, it helps look into the future and makes us brave enough to try and change it. I would think one would ask the question: Is social media the NEW marketing? Let’s begin with what is social media and what is marketing? One of the points I thought was interesting is “Entrepreneurs who predicted the Boomer+ age group trend toward being more active online, are now actively developing “gadgets” for older adults to support all aspects of their lives”. At 49 I would have never thought I would not be able to function with social media. It’s the best way to find out what’s happening all around you. One would think just turning on the television you would be able to find about what’s happening in the world. Now a days people don’t rely on television, why should there when social media captures every minute of what’s happen in the world. As an example I was watching a program the other night. One of the announcers tripped and fell on national television. It was hilarious, it hit social media 5 minutes after it happen. I saw it on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The continued growth of social-media sites now means that the digital world becomes the main means for the creation of social communication.

Social media gives marketers a voice to communicate with peers and customers even potential consumers. It individualizes the "brand" and helps you to increase your message in a calm and informal way. The demise to social media, if you could call it that is that it must be a part of your everyday life in order to keep the energy and responsiveness you need for it to be effective.
