What would we do if one day the Earth destroyed? We could choose to die off with it, or we could find our way to a new planet and start a new life. Where is that new planet we are looking for? It is there; it is somewhere in that enormous universe about which we’ve known just a little. Thanks to space exploration, human beings have been able to discover so many interesting and incredible facts about the universe as well as develop new technologies which are used and benefit daily basis. Some people claim that space exploration is a waste of money, we should invest budget in other aspects of economy or science. Moreover, as the world population increase rapidly, our natural resources, such as lands, water, air, etc., are being drained out and polluted, and it could arguably go beyond the carrying capacity of the earth already. (Johnson 1). Either scenery would cause our planet exterminated, which comes to the point when we urgently search for another inhabitable planet to start a new life. In order to do this, we must keep exploring the universe more thoroughly and exhaustively.
Secondly, this investment would encourage scientific discoveries and technological progress that help the human race. Space exploration has given us a lot of technologies, from advanced to everyday devices like vacuum cleaners, satellite television, firefighting apparatus, GPS, MRI scans, and so on (“Space Exploration” 1). With what space exploration program has brought to us, it is reasonable to expect more inventions and developments from it. George Whitesides, national director of the National Space Society, reveals that NASA has a dedicated website for space tech based spin offs that are being commercialized for the betterment of humanity (4). Numerous examples of spin offs from the space program, for example, such as kidney dialysis machines, fetal heart monitors, programmable heart pacemakers, to name just a few that are extremely helpful and valuable to people who have these health problems (5).
