Is The American Dream Still Achievable In Today's World?

Does America still provide the American Dream? It does, after reading the three poems I have, learned that America does still provide access to the American Dream. And is alive, the examples I will give you, shows how alive the dream is in America. The American dream is an amazing opportunity for people. It was in the past and it is now. It gives immigrants the chance to make a life for themselves and their families. It allows them to escape poverty and the hardships that they face in their country. Coming to America gives people a chance to get a job, own their own business, or get their own home. Past generations have thrived greatly from this opportunity. Current and future generations are struggling.

Early in our history immigrants could move from a hard lifestyle, such as government corruption or famine to America . Where life was perceived to be perfect and had so much more opportunity. However, as the people changed in positive and negative ways the American Dream was altered as well. The overall idea of the American Dream has changed from ideas and freedoms to more tangible things. For example people used to move to America to have rights and to have a voice. Now some believe that if you wear expensive shoes and spend more money on your car than your house you have fulfilled the dream.

I think America still provide access to the American Dream because like a high school or collage curriculum is everyone can take it and if you study harder to each curriculum, you got a skill of those and it was use for in your future.

The American dream can be one of the most possible things to have EVER been possible. Us as people must realize what we can work with. We can eventually become one of the world’s greatest countries to live in. If anything, we are already acceding a point in potential to became THE greatest county to ever live in. We have some amazing people that can do some amazing stuff for our country. Other countries might be thinking the same exact thing for their country, but I strongly think that anyone can do anything in the USA. So much opportunities to take in this country, but us humans are being put down for our hopes and dreams by other people. The definition of the “American Dream” by James Truslow Adams, “life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement” this means that no matter your social class, dilemmas, or circumstances at birth one will overcome and make their dream come true. Anyone coming or currently living in the United States has a dream, or better yet known as the American Dream. What is the American Dream? Well, Brandon King, author of “The American Dream: Dead, Alive, or on Hold?” quoted James Truslow Adams, who wrote that the American Dream “is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability and achievement, regardless of coral class or circumstances of birth”(610). Everyone’s American Dreams are all different, but a majority of them all have a few things in common, that is becoming financially fit, acquiring a good education, and pursuing the opportunities that were not available. Brandon King expresses that the ideals and values of the American Dream are very much alive. However, Paul Krugman author of “Confronting Inequalities” bring up several excellent points as well, regarding that not all Americans can pursue the American Dream because of all the inequalities Americans currently possesses. Achieving the American Dream is not impossible, but it is harder to attain now than how it used to be with social, income, and racial inequalities being the primary cause. As of now individuals has to overcome many of bias barriers to reach the American Dream which used to be a lot easier to gain back in the 1940s-50s.

The American Dream is one of those terms that people refer to when talking about immigration, financial status, and so much more. But what does the term really refer to? People used to think of the American Dream as financial prosperity, religious and financial freedom, and all around success. Now, the term may mean something similar, but people are much less focused on it. If anything, the American Dream today is focused on gaining material goods and proving your bank account is larger than your neighbors. With today’s economy, laws and regulations, immigration customs, and overall attitude towards work, people are seldom focused on achieving the American Dream.

The American Dream was designed for immigrants and people who wanted to start a new life. It was set to motivate people to succeed in life by having a nice home in a good neighborhood, a nice family with children who get good grades and to be married to the person you love. The American Dream began hundreds of years ago when the new colonies were forming. The people left Britain to escape poverty and to find religion. When they got here, some of the promises occurred but they were still in agony because they were still working for the rich as indentured servants. Now in modern day, success comes from hard work, motivation and a strive for greatness, but many other things can cause you to not achieve your goals. Therefore, the American dream is unrealistic because society sets high standards and not everyone has an equal shot.

As citizens of America, we all work towards acquiring one thing: The American Dream. The American Dream is something that most citizens of America try their hardest to attain at least some point in their life time. This dream may include but is not limited to, wanting to reach a certain social class, having a safe country with strong military forces, and also wanting to “fit in”, or to find his or her’s place in life. Also, this dream may or may not look similar to the American dream you want to inquire. While most of us desire to attain most of the things listed above, some of us always dream of having a nation where the color of your skin and social standards do not define who you are as a person. However, while citizens may want these things, not all of America may agree with each other. A question that has merged into our minds is, “ is the American dream attainable?”

Amid the copious countries on Earth there are not many as developed as America. The pledge to protect justice and freedom has made us a more open-minded and adaptable community. In our country all children can receive an education, everyone has a chance to afford health care, and no one can be denied rights because they are different. The freedom to be yourself and hold your own opinion are not only tolerated, but encouraged. Unlike many less fortunate people we can follow our own religion and strive for our own dreams. Of Course, other places are very successful and formidable, but only a selected few actually promote individuals rights in general. These many attributes contribute to why the American Dream is alive and more well than ever.

     The American Dream cannot be defined clearly. Each person has his or her own dream. Some see it as owning a house or becoming a millionaire, while others define it as being able to read or to get a job. Society tends to associate this phrase with the amount of money a person earns or how many possessions they can acquire. The American Dream to others, especially immigrants, is a chance to succeed in a new life. The important fact is that Americans are given the freedom to decide what The American Dream is to them and the opportunity to achieve it.
