Generally, when someone is said to be the “best” at something, it is an arbitrary title given to someone by another person based purely on their own narrow viewpoint. This it true when talking about the best actor, however, it may be more important that one may think at first. Within today’s media consumed society, actors are put on a pedestal, creating a situation where their actions are observed constantly -- holding them to a standard. This makes determining the best actor quite an important title to establish; they are the standard for those who are manipulated by the media. Some may think of one of the great actors from the past, such as Marlon Brando, or one of the popular actors today -- like Chris Pratt -- they do not suffice. …show more content…
In the acting world, there is also an “idea that great actors must transform themselves physically,” truly making them “a ‘real’ actor,” ((James Marsden Is One of the…). This is used to show why he is not often considered as being “the best actor” citing that he is not a method actor, which is accurate, as an actor becomes great through acting, not changing their physical appearance. This misconception of method acting being superior to the normal acting in the traditional sense is toxic to the entire field. There are many great, non-method, actors who are sometimes better at acting compared to those who transform themselves for a role. In the article How Do You Differentiate Good Acting From Bad Acting? The actors Tommy Lee Jones and Anthony Hopkins being some of the greatest actors due to their multiplicity of their roles or just their brilliant portrayals within certain movies. The basis for Tommy Lee Jones possibly being one of the best comes, once again, from his range as an actor, from his roles in the Men In Black films to No Country For Old Men, no matter the role type, he is able to nail whatever role is given to him. The range of an actor is an important factor to take into account when considering the best actor, and Danny DeVito is able to do any
The existence of the motion picture industries has been a primary source of media information. In fact, video studio gave birth to some magazines. The is so much obsessed with celebrity and star news leaving the media personnel with no option but dig star gossips as much as they can. The movie industry has been around for quite some time. However, over time it can be appreciated that cultures have regularly changed as time goes by (Thomas 67). Values to be depicted on in a movie vary widely as well as the actors. To get a clear picture of these varying cultures and values, it is important to compare two Hollywood stars; One before the year 1980 and the other one our current time.
The outstanding component of acting is that it is an aspect that calls for a wide variety of skills. A single person to form a totally different personality from that possessed by the acting person must synchronize these skills. Some of the most common skills necessary for an actor are vocal projection, physical expressiveness, speech clarity, well-developed imagination, emotional facility drama interpretive ability. Also not to forget mentioning other important capabilities that an actor must have are; utilization of accents, body languages, dialects, improvisation, mimicry, emulation, stage combat and observation (Jurkowski and Francis 44). Another fascinating fact about acting is that it combines both talent and special training programs. Due to this fact it offers opportunities to any person who has an interest in becoming a theatre performer. The training has as well availed a chance for the emergence of professional actors who never seize from learning new elements from now and then. These people are among those who undergo training in various sub-disciplines making them diverse and multifunctional. An actor can be good at singing, dancing, partner work, scene work among others. Bundling all these qualities into one single person is a fascinating element which makes them fit for any duty that might be availed to them. Therefore acting as
"It’s really demeaning after you’ve won the Oscar to be offered the same role over and over again. They only wanted me to drag out my accent-and-dance show over and over again." (pg.174, Hadley-Garcia)

Both authors examined the qualities of Brando’s acting that made his acting memorable. Neves investigated Brando’s acting style in the 1954 film On The Waterfront. Neves delved into how Brando’s method acting approach strengthened his role and focused on the psychological complexity Brando gave to the character. Whereas Krasner wrote about Brando’s role in the 1951 film A Streetcar Named Desire and explored specific details in his acting technique, such as his usage of mumbling and his rebellious wardrobe choices. Neves’ points proved to be the strongest, with his extremely in-depth analysis and use of psychology to explain Brando’s character’s actions. In the future, historians could analyze how Brando’s acting improved and became more memorable as he became older. Altogether, there were many reasons for Brando’s memorability, as shown by Neves’ arguments that the method style enhanced his acting, and as shown in Krasner’s arguments that precise details in his acting made him memorable, and further information on his memorability could be gained by studying how his acting became better over time.
Starting in the 1900s, the requirements of acting have been changing since its first appearance. Acting has evolved to have multiple genres of films that contain complex themes, styles, dynamics and acting demands. A Golden Globe winning film, “Zero Dark Thirty” clearly shows a unique perspective about horrifying terrorist attacks and the story of the history’s greatest manhunt for the world’s most dangerous man, Osama bin Laden. Jessica Chastain was awarded the best performance by an actress in a motion picture award in 2013 and her acting qualities shows why. In another film made in the 1980s, “The Shining” portrays “human monsters, which are people that can actually do horrible things” (Olivieri 8). Jack Nicholson plays the inflicted father
"The philosophical underpinnings of my approach to acting are that there are universal human qualities, and that every character is actually available within each one of us, that if we tap down into that universal humanness, we can find whatever character it is that we need to play already there within ourselves, and it's just a matter of peeling apart the onion that is you and finding that character within you, because of this universal human quality. "(“Misha Collins.”). The man who said this is the actor known as Misha Collins, and this is his philosophy on acting. Even though he’s an actor however, does not mean that he is stuck up and rude. Unlike other actors, who usually think of themselves as superior to their audience, he cares a
Tom Cruise is an extraordinary actor. Critics and films determine and prove that he is one of the best actors to make it in the business. Cruise not only was nominated for 80 awards, he has won 29, and 4 Golden Globe awards (Wikipedia). There’s a recent New York Times article I came across that laments how the rise of the superhero genre has conflated actor-stardom with character-stardom. The article itself doesn’t really chase down the points too well, but the central gist (as far as I can see) is that in the recent slate of films, characters have come to trump actors. As Wesley Morris suggests in the article, when you watch Oceans Eleven, it’s George Clooney doing all the cool stuff as Danny Ocean; but when you watch Rush, you don’t see Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt, you see Thor as James Hunt. And as more big name actors get roped in to superhero films (Cate Blanchett’s gonna be in Thor: Ragnarok!), it’s more actors being roped in to playing a specific character.
A star’s image is a concept carefully molded by the celebrity himself or herself with the aid of many factors such as audience reception and current ideological trends. Star image, by definition, given by O’Shaughnessy and Stadler, is “the qualities, ideals, and values that a star represents, based on their films and other performances, and on media information circulated about them” (430). A change of star image encompasses the sum of everything we, as in the audience, affiliate with that star. That means changing the star’s body of work, promotion, publicity, and audience practices. These factors put together is also known as star text (Professor Josh Jackson, September 8, 2016, University of California, Berkeley). Jennifer Lawrence had a particular star text before she took on the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games and was instead known for her role of Ree Dolly in Winter’s Bone. This new role launched Lawrence into a different star text she was previously known for. Though it seemed like the change is solely based on her landing an already popular role, the change in her star text is still calculated in order for her to maintain a certain image that landed her at the top of the celebrity social ladder. This careful manipulation of a celebrity’s image as she takes on a role that guaranteed a big impact on her acting career demonstrates how a star’s image is important when it comes to maintaining what the celebrity, and everyone who is working with that

He won an Oscar for Captains Courageous and Boys Town and became a top star at the studio. In the duration of his career, Tracy appeared in 75 films and was known among his peers as one of the screen’s greatest actors. He was ranked as one of the top
First, off The narrator, Patrick Warburton always sounds bored and very dull. Second Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf....why cast him he sucks at acting....The Original (2004) movie had a much better casting. Jim Cary as Count Olaf and Emily browning as Violet and Jude Law as Lemony Snicket along with Meryl Streep as Josephine. I may continue to watch the series despite being disappointed after watching juts the first episode.
