Is There Too Much Pressure on Teenagers to Go to College?
After the teenagers graduated from high school, they will need to plan all of their future goals that will follow them for the rest of their lives. After they finished, they will ask themselves such as Do I should go to the college? Or maybe I just need to find a good job that suitable for me. Some teenagers think that it would not be good to choose to go to college. I think that everybody, after graduating, should attend college. It is a relevant impasse in someone's life, it helps you have the opportunity to enrich your knowledge and in life Because of that, there is a lot of pressure on young people to go to college because some parents did not have the opportunity to go to college, many responsibilities and get high grades, need to find scholarship and teens often have no idea of choosing a career during the last school year, so they may feel frustrated.
First of all, to begin to understand why teenagers feel a lot of pressure to go to college. Because some parents did not have the opportunity to attend college during their youth. Therefore, some teenagers feel pressured by their parents to go to college after graduating from high school. Parents always want a better future for their children, for example, most Latino parents could not attend college due to unfortunate financial problems, family problems, among others, so they insist on their children. However, some young people feel compelled to go to a
Going directly to college after high school can be completely beneficial to one’s life. It is what the government encourages while in high school and can easily be accomplished. By attending college at a young age you can live the infamous college life that so many adults speak of as “the best four years of my life”. These four years can be achieved and should be enjoyed. As a young student, one can have the stamina to attend class with hours on end. As a current college student, I see many adults coming back to college because they have been part of the group that has tried to succeed while only having a high school diploma. The truth of the matter is those high school students that realize that a four-year degree in college can secure a place in life that is acceptable for them will be the ones to succeed; furthermore, these students are the future of America.
The topic of “Are Too Many People Going to College?” was presented by Charles Murray, the W.H. Brady Scholar at the American Enterprise. In today’s world college is a must due to many employers seeking educated individuals. Murray develops an interesting conversation by demonstrating that many high school graduates who are seeking to go to college do not need a degree depending on their career paths. Murray provides the analogy of a high school graduate who is looking to become an electrician but is not sure if college is the most logical decision. Murray acknowledges the fact that a B.A. does not necessarily led to a higher income than one with a degree. The logical argument of money is brought to attention and is stated “the income for the top people in a wide variety of occupations that do not require a college degree is higher than the average income for many occupations that require a B.A.” (Murray 247). Although this is his main point, he understand that it varies due to the occupation one is leaning towards. There has been individuals without a college degree that are making millions of dollars, but it varies. Murray claims that getting a B.A. is going to be the wrong economic decision for many high school graduates (Murray 246); however not everyone wants to be an electrician or any other hand held jobs that doesn’t necessarily need a degree, but if one wants to be a lawyer, doctor, or anything require a degree, college is the answer. Having a degree in a
Parents believe their kids are too young and immature to make a decision by them selves, therefore they pressure their kids into attending college believing it is the best thing for them. The author does not agree with these actions and thinks that students should decide for themselves whether or not they want to continue their education. If students feel that college is not for them, they should not stay there just because somebody expects them to. Furthermore, she states that if everyone got a higher education everybody would be on the same intellectual level, and there would be no difference in people.
When students graduate from high school. They feel that they don 't need to pursue a four year college degree. High school graduates may feel happy with just a diploma. When students graduate also feel that it may be wasteful, and not expand their career choices and their financial outlook. High school graduates feel they have enough social skills to interact into today 's society. They may just settle for less.
Being a high school student college is a huge thing to think about. College is a great opportunity to makes new friends and open up a whole new chapter in your life. I believe that everyone should go to college, and receive a college degree. College could benefit everyone. The benefits of a college degree are endless. The main reason people go to college is because they were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the have to go to college because, “it
The average age that a person has kids is around the age of twenty-nine (Bates). So not only does one have to balance bills, focus on a career, they could also have to take care of a life. To be fully prepared to enter the real world, an individual must basicly have there life planned out as soon as highschool. It is very hard to put these heavy choices on a kid as young as thirteen years of age. A decision a person makes on what they do affects them for the rest of their life, so why make a decision that is so heavily weighed, be even allowed to be chosen by someone so juvenile. Many teens are worried about gossip, relationships, sports, and social status. College is just something a highschool thinks of usually around junior year, or early senior year, even senior year where a high school student makes their decision about what colleges to apply to, or accept to get into; they are also distracted with SAT’s, ACT’s, Friday night lights, grades, and school dances like prom or cotillion. Being sidetracked by all these factors and many more a logical decision can not be made without taking even more time to not just double check a decision, but triple check, or four times or more. An individual can never be too sure about
If a student does not have the money to attend college, it is like having your vehicle being taken away from you. Education is the road, and without having the thousands of dollars one needs to attend the University of their choice, no one would be able to drive down the path to success. It all comes down to the fact that college is too expensive for a majority of adolescents, being more of a luxury than a commodity, which holds us away from our potential dream, and future.
Within the essay “Are Too Many People Going to College?” important topics of misinformation and overgeneralizations are explained. The expectation of the same 4+ year college for every single student out of high school seems unrealistic. There are so many different job paths you can take. Although many jobs require a college degree, there are other options for on the job learning or even studying at a specialized school for your future career.
Throughout a student’s journey of schooling, college is mentioned hundreds of times. Maybe even thousands. Once they reach high school the next four years are dedicated to preparing for college. Some will feel overwhelmed by this thought and others may not. While a lot of people have the option to go, many decide not to. In Charles Murray’s article, Are Too Many People Going to College he discusses a few reasons why people might not choose college. Although in my own opinion it is not always necessary to attend college, I do believe it will benefit many people. Freeman Hrabowski’s article Colleges Prepare People for Life makes a point about benefits of college which I agree with.
Teens are constantly told by their parents that college is “ABSOLUTELY” necessary to be successful in this world. Fun fact: It’s not. College isn’t necessary because it isn’t required to be successful, and as many students have the mindset that college is the road to success, education has changed over time and it’s not as helpful as it used to be. Many schools build their students up to be a great student for a great college. But, when they go to the college to follow the dream that someone has set in their mind, they drop out and look at themselves as failures. All for what? For the approval of those who’ve pushed them to work for a dream that is not their own.
They are many reasons why students don’t want to go to college, but I think the main reason they don’t go to college is because of how expensive it has become. It’s not easy getting financial aid when you’re a dependent under your parents because it goes base of what they make, and if they make too much than you’ll get denied. It also doesn’t help that when students get jobs out of high school, they usual only get paid minimum wage, so it would be hard for them to pay for each unit, health fees, parking permits, books and supplies. Another reason that I think students don’t want to go to college is because of how long it would take for them to graduate. General education classes usually take 2 years, if the student is going full time and if

To add on, the teen has more than enough to juggle on a daily basis including extracurricular activities, loads of
Furthering your education in this world is important. Going to college is very beneficial to society because it helps the country run smoother. Some reasons people believe everyone should attend college are that college graduates tend to make more income than a non-college attendee, more companies and businesses require you to have a degree to your name to work for them, and you are more likely to have a better health care insurance and retirement plan. But others tend to feel like college is not isn’t worth the time of day. Others who believe in not attending colleges usually have reasons like it takes too long to pay off your student loans and debt, recent college graduates are underemployed or struggle to find work, and many students who attend colleges and universities tend to drop out and wastes their own and government money.
Many students take this approach: they go straight to college; a lot consider this the safe approach.
