Isolation's Role In Society

Due to the United States just getting out of the great war in 1918,it's 1920 and they needed to figure out a way to return to normalcy. Some had figured they could do that with the political,economical,social, and cultural aspects and coming together as one but things didn't always turn out as planned.

Thesis: The relationship made with people in life helps one stay in reality and keeps one grounded in morals. If one completely blocks out society and get lost in their imagination it can progress into an unhealthy alternate reality. Without the support of friends and family one can dwell in an irrational state of mind.

Social is the term which is best suited for human being. In part one of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the reader is introduced to Scout, the narrator of the book, her family and other members of the community in which she lives. Scout and her older brother Jem are the children of Atticus Finch, a lawyer in Maycomb County, Alabama during the Great Depression. Scout and Jem meet Dill, a boy spending the summer with his Aunt Rachel. He is between Scout and Jem’s age and becomes a great friend and playmate. He, like Scout and Jem are enjoying the freedom of no school, using their imagination inventing, and playing games throughout the summer. Next door to Scout and Jem, lives a very curious individual whom they have never seen but heard rumors about. This individual has been kept isolated by his father because of some innocent pranks he was involved in over fifteen years ago. Solitude, one simple yet powerful word strikes fear in the hearts of our vast population. Shunning is considered an extreme form of punishment in Amish communities and is used to force criminals into repentance. In closer comparison to our society, criminals are put into empty cells and are cut off from the outside world as punishment. Considering the severity of the previously mentioned examples, why is isolation considered a harmful punishment? Isolation causes a wide spectrum of mental illnesses, oppression, and cuts off communication. Clearly, inclusion into society is a major necessity to human survival.

From reading the novel called "Brave New World" by Huxley, John the savage is a character that has been mostly isolated in throughout the chapters. What this mean is that he has been separated from people, a place, including himself. But why does he do that for? He isolated himself from the people of a village in the reservation when they all have knowledge of rituals, morals, and values to learn from, he does not want to live and be a part in the world state where he can have anything he wants and lastly he decided isolated from himself. Just ask yourself on why would John isolate from all these things that will benefit him of more knowledge, get the things that he wants, and be himself?

This Painting connects to the Outsiders because the man represents an isolated being like Ponyboy and Johnny. Ponyboy describe Johnny as "If you can picture a little dark puppy that had been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers, you'll have Johnny." Pg. 49 Johnny is isolated like a puppy lost in a crowd, he can't find his way he is lost in this crazy world. Moreover POnyboy, like Johnny is lost in this world of greasers and socs he feels lonely and isolated.

Eliot are texts, which will be discussed and examined to highlight connecting ideas and themes with the most focus on the theme of isolation. This essay will compare both texts to see how each relates to and deals with the idea of isolation, keeping in mind the characters, language and also the setting of Brave New World and how Aldous Huxley has portrayed this as well as examining the relative idea’s in T.S. Eliot’s poetry and how these two selected texts can be compared and contrasted to each other. Brave New World has a strong connecting theme of isolation.

In the passage “A Brave New World,” by Adam Huxley, John the Savage experiences exile when he travels to the civilized world with Bernard Marx. While John is in the civilized world, the separation from his homeland causes him to have alienating experiences. John is seen as an outcast in the civilized world due to his refusal to participate in customs and events that are normal to the citizens. His refusal of protest also makes him appear as an odd person to the citizens, due to the citizens viewing protest as normal. All this makes john feel alienated in the new world.

My concentration explores the loneliness of men in different context: in the woods, city, ocean, and even among other people. I often wonder, why we often feel even lonelier despite having more friends and convenient technology. But if loneliness is bad, why would I sometimes prefer to drift away.
