After taking the survey I learned that I was an Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging or ISTJ. ISTJ’s are known for keeping the rules and not liking things that have unclear rules. They also hate when things or people have inconsistencies, or when people do not keep up their end of an agreement. Who are you? Many fortune cookies, horoscopes, and other whimsical devices attempt to tell us our personalities, or our combination of traits and behaviors that make up who we are. However, psychologists today deviate from those unsubstantiated methods and have concocted various personality tests that give us a better understanding of who we are. One such test is called the Myers-Briggs personality test. Based on theories by Carl Jung, but primarily created by Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katharine Cook Briggs, the test gives people a standardized survey of questions to answer. Standardized, meaning the test is given and scored in the exact same way every time to give unbiased and accurate results. It scores people in four pairs of characteristics, so there is a total of 16 possible personality types. Each pair of characteristics are opposites and a person can fall anywhere between the extreme end of one opposite to the extreme end of the other. The pairs are extroverted and introverted, sensing and intuition, thinking and feeling, finally judging and perceiving. A person can have strong, moderate or weak tendencies towards a preference. (Rathus, 2010, p. 420) There is some criticism of the Myers-Briggs test however, not everyone fits into the categories. People may answer according to socially acceptable norms instead of their honest answers. This assignment assured some parts of my personality that I already knew. But, it also taught me new things about me. The Jung Typology test gave as a result that my type of person is ISTJ; 47% introvert, 1% sensing, 34% thinking and 9% judging. I actually agree with these results because it accurately reflects my type of personality. I am a quiet person that does not often socialize since I feel very comfortable when I’m surrounded by my family and close friends. In addition, my personality tends to be very rational and neutral and most of my decisions are normally ruled by what is logical and not based on emotions. Therefore, a lot of people see me as a cold person. The last component which is judging also resembles a lot on me since I believe that we as humans don’t know what the other people have to go through in their daily lives.

Personality assessments can serve as valuable tools to determine personality types, and subsequently allow us to understand certain behavior patterns. My own personality assessment revealed that I have an ENFJ personality type; I am an extrovert; have a preference of intuition over sensing; have a preference of feeling versus thinking; and have a preference of judging over perceiving (Jung, n.d.). The results of my assessment were quite revealing, mostly accurate, with room for interpretation. Real-time circumstances and the environment have a direct impact on my behavior. According to Revelle and Condon (2015) “People differ from themselves on a moment to moment basis in that they do not think, feel or act the same all the time. They change in their feelings, in their thoughts, in their desires and in their actions.”

I am an ESFJ on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator – extraverted, feeling with sensing and judging. According to the six-paged MBTI report from a few years ago, I am supposedly “warm-hearted, conscientious, and cooperative”. Being the malignant narcissist that I am, I concur entirely. I tend to be a provider, and like to be surrounded by harmony. Just as the report suggests, I don’t do well in tense or conflict-charged situations. Growing up, I had an embarrassing tendency to cry when experiencing disagreements or arguments. Due to this, I would always avoid situations and circumstances which would lead to arguments of any sorts. You see, when you grow up in a household with three other siblings who can give any debater a run for their money, you find it extremely difficult to be confrontational because there is no way you will ever win an argument. I found out very early on that arguments always ended with my tears, and thus, compromising and accommodating became the easy route out.

John Adams once said, “Thanks be to God that he gave me stubbornness when I know I am right”. John Adams, like myself was introverted, intellectual, thinking, and judging, or an INTJ on the Myers Briggs personality test. Like all INTJs, Adams was stubborn and flouted the ideas of others that he did not agree with. By using my results from the Meyers Briggs personality test, I can examine how I react to certain things and use this to improve my Spirituality, my relationship with God, and ultimately my relationship with others through Christ.

The tests related with personality intrigue people because human personality is a very curious topic for people. Everyone wants to know about their personality and the internet has become the easiest method to access any personality test that claims to solve your queries about your own. People take interest into these tests and end up being fooled by some vague claims made by a machine that has all remarks and conclusions fitted in it. I was no exception to it when I decided to take a personality test and get included in the list of those people who got duped by such tests.

The dominant function of the INTJ personality type is introverted intuition. This has played a crucial role in my (albeit rather short) professional life. Ever since I was a toddler, I wanted to become a veterinarian. All of my actions were carried out primarily with this goal in mind, to the point where it was obsessive. I never considered taking any other career path.

All my scores were in the “in-between” category. I am both introverted and extroverted being at times talkative, sociable and assertive. However, I can reside on my own personal reflections, concepts, and ideas. I manage my personality within the two and emphasize either trait in the correct timing of events being aware of which is needed and which is not. The ability to be “in-between” gives me the opportunity to develop more cognitive relationships with both sets of people or personalities.

The personality assessment inventory tests provide results on my individual personality, values, motivation, decision making, communication, team skills, conflict skills, organizational structure preference, and stress. These results are broken down briefly in three parts and do not include any personal speculation or analysis as to their meaning. The application of these results are further applied and explains how the results noted from the tests and in the first step will make me a better employee, co-worker, and manager within my organization. These tests mentioned above are applied in conjunction with particular examples on how I can achieve becoming a better employee, co-worker, and manager. An explanation of how my personality and experiences were affected by the Holy Spirit is also discussed. Particularly, how potential weaknesses have become strengths with the guidance of the Lord.

Based on the personality profile I completed in class my personality type is ISTJ, Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging. According to various sources on personality types ISTJ's are often referred to as "Inspectors". I agree with a lot of what I have read about my personality type. ISTJ's often give the initial impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold. This is perhaps one of the truest statements about me that I have seen. Many people find me to be cold and standoffish if not conceited and stuck-up. I prefer spending time alone, or with a few close people rather than go to parties, bars, or clubs. Succeeding in academics can be affected greatly by your personality. Being an ISTJ and having sensing and judging as my two main personality traits certainly has both its up and downs. Ever since I was a child, I have always been responsible, orderly, and statistical, and as time passed, these traits become a natural habit. I see this as a strength since it had helped me significantly in my studies, but some of these traits also restrict my creativity and often makes it difficult for me to look outside the box.
