James, My Hero : My Personal Hero

Up in the sky, look: It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Superman! Throughout life, Human beings often have a person in life who they look up to; either it is a sports figure, music icon, or even family. Everyday in your life you idolize everything that person does, whether they way a pass a ball, the way they sing a tune, or even the way they act. As life passes on, think to yourself what truly defines a hero and why do you look up to that person? In the online article, Who is your Personal Hero? By John H. Sklare, he asserts, “There is a lot of talk these days about heroes, and it seems to me that the term hero gets thrown around and attached to people easier than it used to” (Pg.1) Basically what that means is the term hero is not what it used to be anymore, people overuse the word hero and forget what it truly means. Some people would suggest that heroes are people who are sport stars and popular celebrities, but heroes are people who are close to you and people who are courageous such as: Siblings, Parents, or any other family members.
When it comes to personal heroes, I would consider my second oldest brother, James, my personal hero. James has always been my hero due to the fact of us always competing in life to be better than one another. Whether it would be in athletics, school, or anything else. We pushed each other to be greater. Growing up, James has always been the nicknamed, “The Golden Child,” due to that fact, he was and is the smart one in the family; and also the hardest worker. He leads by example, and I look up to that. He has always watched over me and wanted me to the best possible person possible. Another way he inspires me, is that I have always felt he casted a shadow on me, because of his achievements. Throughout my life, I have been chasing to be better than him and that makes strive to be greater, so I can get rid of that shadow.
When it comes to heroism, Heroism can be shown in many forms such as: someone who shows integrity, bravery, and has a good sense of character. In the same article, Sklare explains, “...But heroes can be found very close to home as well… the single mother who works two jobs to keep her children clothed, fed and sheltered; the father who refuses to work on
