In year 17 we totally changed our strategy. This time we were targeting an entirely different market. We brought down our models offered from 200 to 150, furthermore we raised our average S/Q rating by almost 40%. To increase the S/Q rating we had to dramatically invest in TQM and enhanced features. This did slightly did improve over market share but at the same time brought our net revenue down and we found ourselves struggling with cash towards the year end.

The performance of a diesel truck and a gas burner truck are very different, but either one can be advantageous depending on its use. The horsepower of the diesel truck averages around 360, but can easily be modified with plug and go tuners that can increase HP to over 500 while the gas burner is at an all time high around 420 HP in the new v8 engines. The gasser may prevail in horsepower, but the diesel dominates in torque. The gasser tops out around 460 lb/ft while the diesel blows it away at 765 lb/ft. Toyota Motor Manufacturing, U.S.A. (TMM) is deviating from the standard assembly line principle of jidoka in an attempt to avoid expenses incurred from stopping the production line for seat quality defects. This deviation has contributed to the inability to identify the root cause of the problem, which has led to decreased run ratios on the line and an excess of defective automobiles in the overflow lot for multiple days. If this problem isn’t fixed quickly, an increased amount of waste will continue to be incurred and customer value will be threatened.
Overall, there is an apparent disparity between the capacities of each of the operation processes. The output from the different stages ranges from 900 to as much as 1,800 boards. It is seen that the bottleneck in the whole manufacturing of circuit boards is in the part that has the lowest capacity, and incidentally, located in the earliest part of the production process the cleaning and coating machines. This means that the maximum number of circuit boards that will be finished by the end of the day is 900. From the finished boards, there is a historical defect rate of 20%, thereby leaving a total of only 720 boards that are ready for packing and shipping to the customer. It is therefore apparent that CBF is manufacturing very inefficiently, as they 280 circuit boards short of the required output per shift of 1,000 units.
