Jean Piaget is a well-renowned twentieth century scholar responsible for the development of the Cognitive Theory, focusing on how people think over time, which, in turn, reflects in how how attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors are shaped. Jean Piaget observed and divided the Cognitive Theory into four periods of cognitive development, which occur in the following order: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. Of the four stages, each has it’s own characteristics and developmental gains, which are progressive and developmental with each increasing stage. Due to the critical information garnered about the cognitive development of humans in progressive stages, there have been several improvements to society wherein Jean Piaget’s Cognitive Theory can be used to help and aid people. While this theory is grand as it it, it still has it’s individual strengths and weakness. Major theorist of developmental psychology, Jean Piaget was born on August 9th, 1896, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. At the ripening ages of his early teen years, Piaget held a deep fascination in the sciences. His mother regarded this scientific interest as an attribution to Jean Piaget’s own “neurotic tendencies.” (Biography.com Editors, 2016) However, it is noted that Piaget began to model oneself on his own father, whom held a “passionate dedication to his studies.” (Biography.com Editors, 2016) After graduating high school, Piaget continued on with his fascination in the
