Jerry Springer vs. Oprah Winfrey In the world of entertainment, TV shows have without a doubt has flooded all of daytime television. It all started with the simple and exploited topics on Sally Jessy Raphael and Geraldo. Anyone who tunes in to these talk shows know that they are very similar but vary in style and format. Many have enjoyed the trashy subjects that come on Jenny Jones (no longer airing), while others may like to watch more serious and light topics on the Maury Povich Show. This may be but no two shows can be on such opposite ends of the scale as far as content other then the Jerry Springer and the Oprah Winfrey show. Jerry Springer is and has been for many years, known as the king of “trash talk.” Every topic on his show …show more content…
These are your 18 -21 year-olds whose main troubles in life involve love, relationship, sex, pregnancy, money, peers and influence. They are the ones who see some value and lessons to be learned underneath the show's exploitation. While these two talk shows are as different as night and day, both have ruled the talk show circuit for many years now. Each one caters to a different audience while both have a strong following from many of their fans. Ironically, both could also be considered pioneers in the talk show world. Jerry Springer's crude and vulgar topics may be looked down upon, but no other talk show comes close to the raw exposure of its guest. Oprah Winfrey was able to break away from the pack and create a unique and highly successful talk show. Only time will tell if anyone will follow in her footsteps. Even as these to talk shows stand on opposite sides of the spectrum, both have managed to stand alone to their highest extremes and are considered the best at what they
Reality shows that are based on teen pregnancy like 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom sheds light about the troubles on becoming a teen parent, finishing high school and struggling to buy the baby’s need and wants. Lately, these shows are stirring a debate if they are trying to support or avoid teen pregnancy. And this topic is important to the public, because it relates to the young community’s future. Young girls and boys can watch these shows and have different outlooks about having a child. Sometimes, glamorizing teen pregnancy on television might confuse the young community, because they can be fickle at times. They might think it is acceptable to be pregnant so young and others will consider waiting until marriage. Reality shows can either encourage or discourage teen pregnancy based on the individual’s mentality.
When you picture a teenager you picture fighting, drinking, or answering back, am I right? However, this is simply not the case. Sure there is the minority of trouble makers. However this minority is exaggerated due to the news showing only this behaviour. This stereotyping has found its audience and crept into television shows and series. This has led to the creation of a mockumentary called “Summer Heights High” which has unfairly represented teen
There are countless television shows in today’s media. The content of some shows is extremely poor and low in value it is arduous to find congenial content. Television shows are filled with violence, sex, or drugs, making it arduous to find a clean show that families can enjoy. A television show that has commendable moral values and overall positive content value is “Boy Meets World”. Corey Matthews (the main character) from “Boy meets World” serves as a positive role model for Millennials due to the fact that the show tackles real day to day issues such as drugs, that teenagers face and he is always able to do the ethical solution.
When I was younger their were more inspirational television shows to watch, such as Thats so Raven, Full House, The Cosby Show an many other television shows that you and your family can sit down and watch together. Today the younger kids do not have anything like those positive television shows to look at anymore. Nowadays we have T.V shows that got to do with cheating, lies, and deceit. What ever happen to those T.V shows that you parents wouldn’t mind you to watch without having their parental advisement. One T.V show that is so disrespectful and degrading to me is the television show “Bad Girls Club.” Bad girls club is a reality television series. It centers on seven rebellious women aged from 21 to 27 with different personalities and backgrounds, who have a number of behavioral problems. its original plot was to try to help seven behavior problem women change their self destructing antics, while they spend three months in a fine mansion with one another, during which they have to go by some specific rules, which they must get kick out of the show if they don’t obey them. The women on the show have negatively influenced the younger viewers with 24/7 drinking and partying, the promiscuity, and the constant fighting. The show fails to show the outcome of the actions the women on the show will have to face in real life, but instead it paints a picture that there are no real consequences to the actions that they chose to follow but getting fame.
* The main focus of many teen dramas is sex, with each episode containing countless verbal and visual references to sexual activity. These highly sexualized portrayals of relationships bear little resemblance to the real lives of teens—and are generally not balanced by clear messages about safe and healthy attitudes towards sex.
Also, in many cases, the characters used in these shows are not ordinary individuals, but highly paid actors that simply recite scripts. Clearly, these shows are inaccurately labeled as “reality television,” and many individual’s time is wasted as a result. Time for many is very valuable. Wasting a person’s time because of an inaccurate description could be just as detrimental as wasting a person’s money because of an inaccurate description. Many people watch these shows to view real life situations, but what they are really viewing is the complete opposite. This cultivates confusion about what is real and what is fake.
First of all, a number of audience didn’t agree or approve the family show for the differences of racism and sexualities. This family show could be a bad influence on teens or it can encourage them on discovering different experiences.
Not only is reality TV inappropriate, but it can also humiliate people. For example, in Jersey Shore when the cast goes out to Karma, a club in Jersey, the cast gets drunk and embarrasses themselves because they start getting careless with their actions, cause trouble with other people and start revealing things on TV like skirts going up, tops coming down, etc. For a recovering addict, it is a disgrace to watch themselves and their families on programs like Intervention because they can look back at how they used to struggle in those “sticky situations” and it will always be a part of television entertainment. 16 and Pregnant shows couples and families getting into fights with each other and the cameras are always catching every moment of these battles along with the ups and downs of their struggle. This is what catches the viewers’ attention, dramatic fights. Poniewozik expresses how “it’s often women degrading themselves” and he does not want his “nine year-old thinking that’s the way girls should behave” (236). Basically, Poniewozik expresses how these shows, give people an insulting idea of women, so he forbids his daughter to watch these television
The reason why he remains relevant? Because our society remains in a constant state of stan culture; it has become a cultural norm to praise celebrities and hoist them up so high that people eventually begin to believe that they can do no wrong, excuse the majority of their actions, and even justify their behavior. Example number one is Kanye West. “You don't have to agree with Trump but the mob can't make me not love him,”, “We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought." “When you hear about slavery for 400 years ... For 400 years? That sounds like a choice.” These are prime examples of his controversies, although he did and still is receiving backlash for these statements, he doesn’t genuinely take the time to properly educate himself on exactly why people are angry and outraged, he just makes his comeback/apology statements about himself. His followers also seem to miss the main reason why others are angry at him because they are quick to attack and point out that “Not all black people have to be democrats”;which completely misses the point of the public's anger towards Kanye. On one of his most recent songs with fellow artist T.I., Kanye explains the reasons why he considers himself a supporter of Donald Trump and T.I. acts as the voice of Kanye's fans and at times the general public. Examples of verses include, "Make America Great Again had a negative perception/I took it, wore it, rocked it, gave it a new direction" and "See, that's the problem with this damn nation/All blacks gotta be Democrats, man/We ain't made it off the plantation." T.I. responded with "You gotta see the vantage point of the people/What makes you feel equal makes them feel evil." Overall both
Reality shows have been a staple of television for over a decade. Whether one wants to find true love or be Naked and Afraid, nothing is off limits. This remains true for societies most valued and formerly sheltered group, children. Two shows that have generated a lot of criticism over the past years are Dance Moms on Lifetime and Toddlers and Tiaras on TLC. Both reality shows include young girls being pressured by their own mothers, to compete in an intense competition, filled with sabotage and betrayal. Each show has been accused of regularly exploiting children and promoting a destructive up-bringing. Although I would argue both shows be pulled from the air, if I were to choose, Dance Moms has a few reprising attributes that make it a more worthwhile show than
The Jerry Springer Show has become the nation's No. 1 daytime series and the first talk show to beat Oprah Winfrey in more than a decade.
Daytime TV can range from different categories, genres, networks, and ranks, depending solely on preference. Personally, shows should not be compared if they consist of different preferences. The textbook mentions that the executives at Warner Brothers believe that Ellen DeGeneres was the heir to Oprah Winfrey, when discussing daytime TV. Reports show that Ellen DeGeneres’s hour-long show is upbeat and inspirational and more likable than Oprah Winfrey. Yet, that is only an opinion. According
In today’s day and age one of the most influential women and people is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah has had a big impact on today’s society and played a huge role in advancing it. Oprah Winfrey is a talk show host, producer, actress and philanthropist who are widely respected around the world. By becoming one of the biggest names in talk show history Oprah has paved the way for others and became one of the more popular women in talk show history. Her willingness to help others and to be sure others are guided in positive light shows how much passion she has to see the greater good in others. Oprah’s biggest role comes from helping to pursue the advancement of young women and girls. Oprah has taken the time to see to it that young women are out of poverty and opening up a brand new school for underprivileged females to see to it that they have the same opportunity that children in America and other parts of the world have. Being that African- Americans, let alone women were not seen as marketable, Oprah helped to change this dynamic early in her career by using her platform in communication to open doors for other people. Winfrey’s work over a number of years is the single most evident reason why she has been able to be successful in the field of mass communication. Oprah is one of the most influential women of our time because of how well she is able to contribute to the human rights of women and advancing them in today’s society.
By eliminating the glamorous lifestyles of teenage parents, we will help teens face the reality that being a parent is ultimately difficult. The teen parents should help send out the message that it is hard to live life as a teenage parent and that television shows don’t fully depict the hardships that come along with raising children. Instead of having shows that glamorize pregnancy, we should have shows that educate teens on the real facts of being pregnant. Too many shows out there demonstrate how teen moms have help from their parents, baby’s father, and their friends. By showing teens that such outcomes are rare, and the truth is most of them don’t have the cash flow that celebrities have, they’ll end up struggling and facing the fact that raising children is complicated. Many of the teen moms have parents and nannies to help care for their children and this wouldn’t be the case for most teens. Cases such as Jamie Lynn Spears show how a teenager can be put into the spotlight while making pregnancy seem fun and cool. Teens want to replicate celebrities if they see that they are living a fun lifestyle. Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol Palin, was on the cover of many magazines during her pregnancy. After the pregnancy, she participated in the show, “Dancing with the Stars.” This leads teens to believe that being a mom might
Kids also have mistaken this show for an excuse to experiment with sexual desires. While high school students are taught to abstain from sex in numerous health classes, they learn from MTV that a lot of teenagers participate in sexual intercourse. This gives them the idea that sex is normal for young teens and that they should join the bandwagon too
