John Fitzgerald Kennedy “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” This famous remark was given by John F. Kennedy when he delivered his inaugural address in January of 1961 ("John F. Kennedy"). John F. Kennedy was a remarkable man who had a great deal of success. He was the 35th president of the United States and is remembered mainly for his political success and his handsome and charismatic appearance (Encyclopedia Britannica). John Fitzgerald Kennedy, nicknamed Jack, was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline Massachusetts. His father, Joseph Patrick Kennedy, was very wealthy and his mother was Rose Elizabeth Kennedy. While he was in school at Harvard he used the experience to write his senior thesis “Why England Slept”, which was later made into a book. The book was about why Great Britain’s military was not prepared for war (Encyclopedia Britannica).
John F. Kennedy was born into a very wealthy family, and that would come to assist him later on in life when he began to run for political office. However, originally John F. Kennedy was not the child expected to be in politics. His father had expected that his oldest son Joe would be the one to run for political office, but Joe was killed while serving in World War Two and the political expectations were passed down to John F. Kennedy (Encyclopedia Britannica).
Joe Kennedy was not the only one to serve in the military. In 1941 John F. Kennedy joined the Navy and he served in the South Pacific (Encyclopedia Britannica). While he was commanding a patrol torpedo boat they were rammed by a Japanese warship. Kennedy led his men to a nearby island and they were rescued six days later. For those actions he received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic conduct and was also given a purple heart ("John F. …show more content…

Earl Warren headed a presidential commission which declared that none of the killers were part of a conspiracy to assassinate Kennedy. It was determined that Oswald had acted alone. However, an acoustic analysis suggested that there was a second gunman who had missed. The assassination of John F. Kennedy was and still is a mystery.
