In Kurt Vonnegut’s story 2BRO2B he uses foreshadowing to show the readers what is to come. For example, the song that a hospital orderly walked down the hall singing foreshadows what is to come in the text and how their world works. When the audience first read the song, they didn’t really understand the meaning behind it, but later in the text we find out that it refers to their life and how it works. The song said “I’ll go see a girl in purple” which refers to the gas chamber hostess who works for the Federal Bureau of Termination. The song later says, “I’ll get off this old planet, Let some sweet baby have my place” which refers to the way they all live life. For every baby born, someone must give their life or one must be taken in order for that baby to live. This all together foreshadows what we will find out later when Wehling has to take three lives for his three new born babies.

Being that Heather lost her job at Walmart, she got a job working for a lady named Anne. Anne lives on a farm with an assorted group of animals. The largest ones being tigers. I feel like the tigers are an example of foreshadowing in some way. I believe that they will be involved in the game Panic, due to how dangerous they are. And being that Panic is a game full of panic and danger, it would just be monotonous if they were not involved. Another idea I have had as I read is that Bishop is one of the judges. At first, I didn’t believe it because of his personality and how he would not want to be involved in something so hazardous. As I continued though I saw how he was really worried about Heather, but at the same time helped her. When he picked her up at Anne’s one night he insisted on taking a shortcut which helped Heather see a sign that another round of Panic was going to happen soon. Also, when she had to steal a gun for a round of the game, he took it from her. Why would he take it? How would the judges even know if Heather never told them about it? Being that the judges are sworn to secrecy, I do not have a clue on who the other judge would be. I am eager to read the rest of this book and continue
Does an author ever hint that something bad is going to happen? They may use a certain language, or purposely discuss specific topics that will eventually relate to a culminating event. This writing technique, called foreshadowing, allows readers to sense an onset of an event before it actually occurs. This strategy is used in many stories, and can make a story more interesting and dynamic. The story “A Perfect Day for Bananafish,” by J.D. Salinger, consistently foreshadows that Seymour will commit suicide by describing Muriel and Seymour’s relationship, telling the story about the bananafish, and revealing Seymour’s unique social life.
