Out of all the important contributors to the founding of the United States of America, John Hancock is the Founding Father I chose to research and learn the most about. I feel as though all of the other Founding Fathers are well known and everyone knows a little about each one. John Hancock, for me personally, I knew little to nothing about and I wanted to learn more. I like to learn a lot about subjects that I know nothing about. I also picked John Hancock because of his signature. On every document he signed, his name would be the the most prominent signature. His signature is one of the most well known and I wanted to absorb all of the details about this particular individual behind the signature.
John Hancock, who was born in Braintree, Massachusetts on January 23, 1737 grew up with his mother, father, and two siblings. At a very early age, Hancock’s father passed away and his mother was too poor to maintain the household, so John was raised by his aunt and uncle. John’s uncle, Thomas Hancock, was a wealthy merchant and he owned a very sophisticated mansion in Boston. After graduating in 1750, John continued his education at Harvard University. In 1754, he earned his degree and then went on to work for his uncle at his real estate and shipping business. Soon after, Thomas Hancock passed away and John took over the family business and managed to make it very successful and became the richest man in Boston.
