John Hancock- Also known as "King of the Smugglers", Hancock was an eighteenth century wealthy Massachusetts merchant, statesman, and prominent Patriot of the American Revolution in 1776 who was essential in convincing the American colonies to assert their independence from England. Hancock was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence and is remembered for his large and stylish signature on the United States Declaration of Independence. He also served as president of the Second Continental Congress and was the first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
