Watchmen showcased a character by the name of Dr. Manhattan who could’ve been a metaphor for many different things and ideas. The one I see best fit is Dr. Manhattan being a metaphor for the Christian God, Jesus Christ. This may be a reach but we can start with the real name of Dr. Manhattan, Jon Osterman. Jon short for Jonathan meaning ‘Gift from God’ and Oster means Easter in German. Similar to Jesus Christ, there was a before Dr. Manhattan and there was after Dr. Manhattan. Jon Osterman, like Jesus Christ had a preordained life with decisions chosen by their fathers. On page 3, Panels 4-5, we can see Jon’s dad telling him that he will now be studying Atomic Science stating, “They are the future”. Like Christ, when Jon Osterman died on page 8, panel 4, you can see a very metaphorical image where he almost …show more content…
Manhattan is the only real super-human being in Watchmen and like Christ, Dr. Manhattan shows valid signs of being a God-like being but both take the form of a man. I’d also like to bring attention to the fact that throughout chapter 4 you can see Dr. Manhattan becoming less like man and more like this god-like figure as he grows farther and farther apart from humanity. Like Jesus Christ, Dr. Manhattan walked around earth for many years as a man before becoming their celestial beings. Also ironically both Jesus and Jon Osterman died in their 30s. If you go over to page 10, panel 4, you’ll see the choice of image is very important. This panel alone takes up at least 40 percent of the page. Dr. Manhattans body language even mimics that of Jesus Christ on the cross with his feet pressed together, he is also seen to be surrounded by an angelic, white aura. In a nearby panel, a man is in awe saying to the appearance of Dr. Manhattan, “Oh, holy God.” This can easily be a metaphorical image for when Christ had risen; in this image Dr. Manhattan has risen. It also helps that on his abdomen you can see a cross made out of his abdominal
“Our life would be what we made of it, nothing more nothing less.” This quote was said by a character in The Pigman. The Pigman takes place in Staten Island, NY in the mid 1960s. John and Lorraine were two high school students make friends with Mr.Pignati a lonely old man who just lost his wife and was looking for people to talk with. The Puritans would destroy the novel The Pigman due to the law breaking characters, characters leading sinful lives, and poor family values.
Edward (Ned) Kelly was an infamous Australian bushranger of Irish descent that lived from 1854 to 1880. Black Snake is one of many pieces of literature that has been written based on Ned Kelly’s life. Black Snake is a historical fiction novel based on non – fictional events. Black Snake shows different perspectives on what really happened, so the person could’ve slightly changed the story to back up their point of view. “...but I’ve never felt better than I did at that moment. And I don’t think I ever will” (425). The story, Payback Time written by Carl Deuker, manages to summarize a couple of months of Mitch True’s life. Mitch is an overweight teenager who desperately tries to make new friends. He is interested journalism and being a school news reporter. Throughout the story Mitch encounters some bullying issues. He constantly gets beat up and made fun of. On a couple of occasions, Mitch was ready to fight back for himself. Although one can try to hold back for so long, the clear statement that Deuker tries to get across is that revenge can take control of a human’s mind.
What would you do if you were in a family crisis and given a 10,000 for your family member passing away? In the play Walter Younger goes through many different moral problems and has bad ego due to the money that has been given to the family. In this play during the late 1950s, there was a lot of racial problems, black skin color was discriminated and abused. He rather open up a liquor store to get more money and keep his family living in the ran down apartment not thinking about all of the bad stuff that can possibly happen to his kin. In Jane Eyre, the classic novel by Charlotte Brontë, the character St. John (pronounced Sinjin) represents the easy way out of things in life. St. John is a clergyman that takes in Jane when he finds her at his doorstep, close to death. He eventually asks her to marry him and to go to India as a missionary with him. St. John represents the easy way out of things because he is the perfect suitor for Jane. He is young, only 29 years old, while Mr. Rochester is almost old enough to be Jane’s father. Jane describes St. John as “a handsome man: tall, fair, with blue eyes, and a Grecian profile” (Brontë 454), and his manners as “polished, calm, and gentlemanlike” (Brontë 454). He is everything a girl a simple as Jane could wish for in
The Great Louie Zamperini’s Journey What would you do if you were stuck on a punctured life raft for forty-seven days with two other men with shriveled up skin due to the sun, with a grumbling, vacant stomach in the middle of the Pacific ocean after a miserable plane crash? Well, before this all happened to Louie Zamperini, he was a troublemaker as a young boy and turned into an astonishing Olympic runner. You will see appearances of the novel Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.

I chose this quote not only because the main character Brewster said it, but because I believe it was an effective way to show the depth of his role. Moreover, the pace at which the author introduces these articulate characters makes it even more enjoyable.
Jack is only thinking about killing pigs. Jack is mad at ralph because he is more worried about being rescued . “Jack Flushed We want Meat The Madness came into his eyes again You wouldn't care to help with the shelters, I suppose? We want meat And we don't get it But I shall! Next time! I've got to get a barb on this spear! We wounded a pig and the spear fell but If we could only make barbs ”(51). Unlike the David of Donatello, Michelangelo's David is not shown after conquering his enemy. Instead, he is portrayed as an extremely athletic and manly character; the sculpture even depicts a worried look cast upon David's face and the carved marble veins seem to pulse with anticipation as he contemplates the upcoming fight. Cast over David's shoulder is his sling, and the stone is clutched in his right hand. Michelangelo's David depicts the ideal youth who has just reached manhood and is capable of great physical and intellectual feats, which is part of the classical tradition. Michelangelo's David portrays one man in a very powerful and intelligent light, and even hinting that this one man may be some
