Introduction to John Wall
“You’ve got to stay humble and hungry. Just keep working and thank god you’ve got a chance” (John Wall). John Wall is a 6’4, 26 year old point guard for the Washington Wizards. He was born on September 6, 1990 in Raleigh, North Carolina. John went to Holy Cross high school and was scouted by many of the top division one schools for basketball. He ended up choosing John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats. John played basketball at Kentucky for just one year in the 2009-2010 season. John Wall’s dad was a criminal who had been charged with second degree murder and an armed robbery multiple times. He was constantly in and out of jail so John hardly saw his father. When John was just nine years old his father was let out of prison a month before his sentence would have been concluded, but it wasn’t for a good reason. “‘We were drawing pictures of ourselves, eating, enjoying the beach,’ John says. ‘It was one of those days you wish your family could have every day, you know, where things just feel normal . . .Then the next day we heard the ambulance coming.’" (Espn.com). Jonathan Carroll Wall Senior had liver cancer and the bands around his liver were beginning to burst. He was brought into intensive care but could not be saved, at just nine years old John lost his father. His mom now worked two or sometimes three jobs at a time just to keep her kids alive. After the loss of his father John was depressed and began getting into fights at school. Overtime the tragedy of John Carroll Wall’s death had settled in. John’s mom still worked two jobs but they had figured out their family life, and it was through basketball (Espn.com). John had figured out a way to overcome his past childhood and lose all thoughts. The Dred Scott Decision of 1857 ruled that African-Americans, even ones who were not enslaved, were not protected under The Constitution and could never be citizens. This brings up questions that will be answered in this paper. Should slaves be American citizens? Is it morally correct for one to own another human? Does the Dred Scott decision contradict The Declaration of Independence which states that every man is created equal?

Chris Herren was a professional Basketball player in the United States, and he played in several leagues overseas. Chris Herren grew up in Fall River, Massachusetts. He attended Durfee High School, and he won a lot of awards because of his skills in basketball. He was in shape on the court, but he had a lot of problems off the court with drugs and alcohol. He got offers to play on the best college basketball teams in the nation. He ended up choosing Boston College because it was close to home. He then played professional basketball in the US, but after a while his addiction to drugs was a part of him and he couldn’t perform on the basketball court without them. John Hill Westbrook was influential to Texas by being the first African-American to play football in the Southwest Conference and becoming a minister. John Hill Westbrook was born in Groesbeck, Texas, November 13,1947. Westbrook grew up being a fourth generation minister. Growing up in parsonages, he moved around a lot. Westbrook ended up going to Booker T. Washington High School in Elgin, Texas. In Elgin, Westbrook played basketball, football, and ran track. Westbrook graduated the salutatorian of his class, and in 1965 he enrolled at Baylor university, ready to take on his dream of playing football.
William Johnson was a slave before being freed at age 11, along with his mother, Amy, and sister, Adelia. He got his barber shop in 1830 from his half brother, James Miller. After starting his barber shop, he keeps a diary and he used it until he died. He also owned a bathhouse and bookstore.He married named Ann Battles, who was also a free african american. They had about 11 children before Johnson died. He lived in the free town of Natchez, and he almost had about three thousand dollars in 1835. Johnson was friends with other freed african americans like Robert McCary and hunted and fished with them. Johnson and Baylor Winn got into a dispute and it ended in Johnson`s favor in court. Throughout his childhood Logan (Tachnechdorus) attained advantageous values and social etiquette. One particular influential ally was a Quaker identified as James Logan who not only provided Tachnechdorus with his name but also educated him until he befriended the future war leader . However, it was after one unprovoked fatal incident involving other settlers that Logan, who once considered the white people as his allies, quickly changed his opinion of them. Hostility erupted within this once diplomatic, unbiased and compassionate man. Recognizing the conflict among the two cultures became the major cause of Logan to take vengeance.
Reginald Alfred Bush Jr. (born March 2, 1985) is an American football running back who is currently a free agent. He played college football at USC, where he earned consensus All-American honors twice and won the Heisman Trophy as the most outstanding player in the nation. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints second overall in the 2006 NFL Draft. While with the Saints, Bush was named an All-Pro in 2008 and won Super Bowl XLIV in 2010 over the Indianapolis Colts. He has also played for the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers.

There was good money to be made about the amount of labor that went into the tobacco cultivation was harch, hence why slaves were used. Ever since then, it is obvious to note that slaves dominated the aspect of southern life. Whether that be economically, socially or politically, slaves played an important role in each category.

Isaiah Jamar Thomas, who currently plays for the Boston Celtics, was underestimated in his playing ability. He stands at a height of 5’9” and weighs about 185 pounds. His name came from an older NBA player-that was also named Isiah Thomas-who played for the Detroit Pistons. It was not because his parents were fans of the Detroit Pistons, but for the opposite reason.

He was a community activist who loved helping African-American girls who had been raped by white men and bring them to justice.
