1. Vernon Johns was born in April 22, 1892 in Darlington Heights (Prince Edward County), Virginia. He went on to Oberlin College after high school to pursue a degree in divinity. In 1948, he became the 19th pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Johns has the ability to speak and read several different languages. He was a community activist who loved helping African-American girls who had been raped by white men and bring them to justice. He is well connected with Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin succeeded with the help of Johns as a minister. Martin moved toward the freedom for the Montgomery bus boycott. Joseph E. Lee was born in Philadelphia in 1849, he graduated from Howard University in 1873. He moved to Florida that same year and became the first African American lawyer in Jacksonville and in the state of Florida. He served in the House of Representatives from 1875 to 1879 and in the state Senate from 1881 to 1882. He was one of the most influential African American men in Florida through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He was elected municipal judge of Jacksonville and was one of the first African Americans to have this honor. He educated free slaves at a college by the name of Edward Waters College. Lee worked as a public servant acting at various times as a state legislator, a lawyer, federal customs collector and educator.

John M. Stephen was born in Missouri in 1814 and moved to Texas in 1831 with his family, he served during the Texas Revolution and was paid 24 dollars for his service. He married Maranda E. Walker in 1837 in Washington County, Texas by his bride's uncle, Gideon Walker. Stephen received a land grant for his military service and in 1854 he moved a black family to the post oak grove, now Stephenville, to open a store to trade with the Indians for honey, hides, and buffalo hams. In 1855, he returned with the first 30 settlers after he agrees to give them land if they signed an agreement that they would build and improve it. Billy Gene Phillips Sr. was born to Clara Faye and Carl James Phillips on January 15, 1958 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. My grandfather grew up in Oklahoma City for the most part of his life. He was raised with three siblings, James Dean Phillips, Donna Faye Conway, and Virginia Ann Terry. He was the second to youngest child in his family. At the age of sixteen he met my grandmother Bonnie Walker, which later married on February 6, 1976 at the age of nineteen. They lived in Dibble, Oklahoma, where they raised five kids, David Phillips, Billy Phillips Jr., Bonnie Phillips, Regenia Phillips, and Virginia Phillips. He had seven grandchildren. In 2003 he fought his son Billy Phillips Jr. In a custody battle for three of his grandchildren, because he didn't believe they were given the best life.
