Stone, after stone, after stone. As I watch my mothers corpse being torn apart from head to toe by stones I feel nothing, I cant feel anything, thats how this game works. Its a sick, sadistic game, but its tradition. I live hear in the village of Riverwood, 30 minutes South of Salem. I hear the waters crash up on the rocks every night and think to myself is there a better place out there waiting for me. My name is John Warner. I am 15 years old and I am a coal miner. I bring my daily rocks to the dispensary, go home, and repeat. It like I'm on this vicious cycle over and over again and I just cant stop. Every night I think to myself, Is there a better place out there? "John, get up?", said Ms. Warner, my mother who I love dearly is the only reason why I live and breath everyday. She provide for me and is always there. I dont know what i would do without my mother. There was only a few days left until a new ritual would begin. Rumor were floating around about the head officers had created some game, but no one knew what it was. I see objects being thrown at here and the screaming and yelling. I see stones being bashed into her scull and blood everywhere. For the last few days I have been worrying that this game is not good. My dreams have been strange and I feel like there have been signs for me. The day is here. My heart is
29. The “promise” that Elizabeth wants John to do is to go to Abigail and to end the relationship between him and Abigail. John explains his anger by explaining that he is honest and that he promises to Elizabeth that he will curse Abigail hotter than the oldest cinder in hell. This explanation is not really convincing as John lied about his affair with Abigail before which made Elizabeth very displeased and annoyed about it.
In act 3 brought into the court Proctor brings Mary Warren to testify against Abigail about her villainous plan that got Elizabeth proctor arrested.Confessing about the doll being in the presence of Elizabeth. Mary tells the court how Abigail pretends with the help of the other girls. On act 3 still Mary states “ It were pretense, sir.” Giving Abigail up about her plan to get at Elizabeth. “ I cannot lie no more. I am with God, I am with God.”Abigail states”.”I have naught to change, sir. She lies”.”: I—I cannot tell how, but I did. I—I heard the other girls screaming, and you, Your Honor, you seemed to believe them, and I—It were only sport in the beginning, sir, but then the whole world cried spirits, spirits, and I—I promise you, Mr. Danforth,
At the end of Act II of The Crucible, Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth got taken on suspicion of being a witch. The poppit that their helper, Mary Warren gave her had a needle stuck in it in the same place that Abigail Williams had a needle stuck in her. Hale assumed that abigail stuck the needle in but still accused Elizabeth. Proctor wanted Mary Warren to explain to the court what happened and to explain the poppet. Mary Warren seems like she wanted to defend Elizabeth and explain the poppet, but she doesn’t want Abigail to accuse Proctor of the adultery he performed. In the heat of the moment, Proctor didn’t care about the potential accusation that could occur, he just wanted his wife to be proven innocent. When his wife was being taken away, Proctor said his well known words, starting with “Now Hell and Heaven grapple on our backs…” This quote sums up what has
In Arthur Millers play, The Crucible, Reverend Parris is to blame for the witch trials in Salem. The witch trials took place in Salem, Massachusetts from 1962 to 1963. During the trials, people were accused and blamed for partaking in witchcraft and worshipping the devil. In some cases, neighbors turned on neighbors and family members turned on themselves. Reverend Parris is to blame for the witch trials that took place because of his egotistical attitude, his selfish ways, and lying to his peers.
The play The Crucible by Arthur Miller has one character that is true to himself and stands out above all the rest. Throughout the play, John Proctor shows some ideal qualities that are not found in the other characters. Proctor is a man of integrity because he shows honesty, he stands by his beliefs, and he makes sacrifices.
The sins of deceit and lust have plagued the human race since the dawn of time. These feelings and wishes can make people do some of the worst things known man. In Arthur Miller's play The Crucible, these two sins are applied to many characters one of which is Abigail Williams. The play revolves around the Abigail and her friends attempting to cover up their past transgressions against the Salem community while Abigail attempts to get together with John Proctor. Abigail suffers from the sins of lust and deceit most chronically which she uses to fulfill her agenda throughout the play. Due to Abigail's lust for John and her constant utility of untruths lead the people to fear for their lives leading them to hurt innocent people making Abigail the main transgressor of the Salem condition.
Wayne Dyer, an American philosopher, author, and motivational speaker once stated “when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Reverend John Hale changes his viewpoints throughout The Crucible multiple times based on the current events around him. Arthur Miller, the author of The Crucible, uses this book to focus on the historical events occurring in Salem during the Salem witch trials, which occurred from February 1692 to May 1693. Miller utilizes ethos, logos, and pathos through his writing of The Crucible to convey the changing viewpoints and emotions of the morally ambiguous character, Reverend John Hale.
In society, we are blind to lies that are taking place around us everyday. Small lies, big lies, lies right in front of our face, and we are oblivious to almost all of it. This is shown really well in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Throughout the play, which takes place during the witch trials that took place in Salem, lies make up a big portion of the plot. Some of these types of lies that are used are described very well in Stephanie Ericsson’s essay The Ways We Lie. These variations of lies amplify the outrage created, through McCarthyism, and the Salem Witch trials that take place in the play The Crucible.
In the play of the crucible by Arthur Miller was about the witch trial in salem, massachute. A teenage girl named Abigail fell in love with a married guy named John Proctor. Abigail is doing everything to win John Proctor heart and be john proctor wife. Everything went wrong and she started to lie by accusing innocent people for being witches. Innocent people are getting hang up because of Abigail and her friends lies. The author's purpose of this play is to inform the audience about what happened during salem witch trials.
Throughout The Crucible we learn many things about John Proctor. Despite learning about the sins he has committed with Abigail the reader’s tend to agree with his character and support him. John Proctor has committed very intense sins and is clearly not free of guilt which is why his decision to hang instead of falsely confess was noble.
Revenge clearly attributed to the downfall of many characters in “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller. A few of those who wanted revenge included Mr. Putnam, Reverend Paris, and Abigail Williams. They all were presented with the opportunity, and they did not hesitate to use it. Innocent lives were lost during the times of the Salem Witch Trials due to these few people. “The Crucibles” by Arthur Miller still serves its purpose to this day as a warning of what can happen if revenge goes too far.
The Salem witch trials were an event that made people act in new ways and realize new things about themselves, as we can see through John Proctor, who went from hating his actions to changing for the good, Elizabeth Proctor, who was mad at John for adultery but forgave him in the end, and with Reverend Hale, who went from accusing the good people of the town to fighting for the good. John Proctor acts as a strong man with good morals. At the beginning of the book John closes himself off and lies to Elizabeth about Abigail. After John cheats on his wife with Abigail Williams, the leader of the “so-called” Salem witches, his morals are tested. John would get mad at Elizabeth not forgiving him shown in this quote, “Spare me!
9. What happened between Abigail and John Proctor prior to the opening of the play?
I didn't mean for any of this to happen, I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. But if I wasn't there I might still be alive. It was cold outside, colder than normal. I shivered as I stumbled through the all too familiar forest path. I like to walk through here at night, it gives me time to think. Something seemed off about tonight. Something wasn't right. It might have been the sudden change in weather, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to happen. My breath started to hitch. I could feel the blood running through my veins. My fingers started to tighten as my heart beat against my chest. I sat against a tree and looked to my left. What
I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock beeping repeatedly. I slam the button off and pull myself up out of bed. My room is dark green, with wooden chestnut color flooring. Of course clothes were scattered all along the floor. I don’t know why my room is a mess, I’m barely in here. I am usually sleeping or out with my brother. The house we live in isn’t big at all. When I was little, it’d remind me of a farm. It’s a one story red house. I don’t know why out of all colors my parents decided to color the house red. But I can’t control that. We live in the forest. People would think it is a peaceful place to live. But not if all your friends are werewolves and miles down lives a vampire that could and will kill people. A lot of people are
