Journal entry #1 My wife and I have decided to go to oregon we don't have much land and wish for much more for our children to play and our animals to graze, our eldest johna is 11 years of age, he shows much potential for the journey to come so i put him in charge of getting the animals together, i'll have to help him with the oxen we got for the journey they're in prime condition and mosses 9 years of age, our second he loathes the move he doesn't want to leave friends and family it would be almost impossible to make him leave if it wasn't for the swansons coming with us so he'll have some friends coming along and our youngest billy is 6 years old and doesn't quite understand but with his fascination with the two oxen i doubt he'll …show more content…
We had decided to go to the biggest general store due to the fact that most others were sold out, jorgensen's general store that was the name of this particular store, ended up having just what we needed and even made sure of it, we ended up one-hundred ft of rope, a baby craddle(how is it that someone expecting a child in four-months would forget to bring a cradle) we also needed food for the oxen, a yoke repair kit, and some axle grease, we also needed a new chicken coop do to the fact that ours fell out of the wagon and broke. We also decided to buy a second saddle before ours wore out. After we had gotten done with the shopping we had ran into our old friends the swansons they have children with ages around ours, they had alway agreed to come over. They told us how they found somebody who said they could come along, but they would have to wait for the rest of the wagon train to come along. The swansons said they would ask if we could tag along. The clines the family that said they could join would be the leaders because they have the best animals, if they let us come we will leave in to days on april 13,
to my sickness. Who knows if we will be allowed to get together, are parent might not let us. Though I am truly hoping they can put money differences behind them. Miles, Alice, Ann, and Elizabeth were all running alongside the wagon playing tag. I would like to play too, but I do not want to upset them by winning. So I will just do my own thing for now, mother could use my help knitting
We packed clothes for the weekend and hopped in the car for the 45 minute ride to Eian’s house. When we got there my dad helped hook up the boat to his friend Eric's car.
We packed everything we had into U-Haul in the safety the night provided. In about four hours of continuous packing our roots were lifted. We headed due south to a place called High Island, Texas. I had only been there one time before when I was little. The justifications of why we chose High Island, which was six hours from our home, was one of my aunt’s lived there and the distance from home was great.
I am terribly sorry I have not written for so long. Ever since I were a midwife for Goody Proctor, I been so busy. I write in great fear. I can only pray to God Almighty that no one will read these words. If they do, we will be in great danger. Moving on, I am almost sure, Abby told Tituba to cook up a charm to kill Goody Proctor. Her restless heart still cling to Mr. Proctor and I have feeling that those two have done more than just talk. Why else would Abby need a Barbados woman and a bunch of other girls in the forest in the dead of night? I only came to know from hearing the other girls as I was running errands this morning. I could not believe it! Surely Abigail was no so mad! To be caught in the act of witchery would only lead her and the other girls to the rope! So I went to the woods to see if it were
Me and my family decided to move to Oregon all the way from New England I decided to keep a journal for the adventure we have to pack before we leave though my 18 year old son Bernard told us to bring his xylophone and I Charles Marvin Ives wanted to bring an anvil in case I need to fix or make anything with metal or use our spare parts we brought even though I have no experience as a blacksmith because I'm a farmer. My wife Samantha Packed the bacon, salt, and whiskey and we all had to lift the water keg. I decided to bring my shovels and hammer and some salt for the bacon. We're bringing pots and other cooking utensils as well. My oldest son, Carl who's 20 years old thought it was a good idea to bring a plow. We will also need some firewood
We are off on the oregon trail, the Swansons kept their promise and asked the clines if we could join, after some negotiation and the conformation of me being a blacksmith, they said we could tag along, once we had left I thought all of our problems were over but I was wrong after a while we had reached a hill, and our oxen couldn't pull all of our supplies, we had to get rid of the piano my wife, that was enough for the oxen to slowly pull the wagon up and over the hill. We have reached the kansas river it had taken us two days to reach from independence, we had arrived just as the raft had left to take the last of a wagon train to the other side, once he returned he had told us it would be one dollar to cross after awhile we had
Today was James and Luke’s birthday. They have the same birthday, but James turned seven and Luke turned four. For James’ birthday he got two cows. He named them Sam and Anna. They are both girls and are already getting along with Diana, Peter, and Noah. Diana is our other cow, Peter is one of our oxen that we already had, and Noah was the ox that Luke got for his birthday today. We fear that the animals will have a hard time on the trail. It will be a long walk, and hope that nothing bad will happen to them. Our cows and oxen are apart of our family and we care about
"Your name is Andrew. You are 13 years old. You are an orphan. And your life sucks."
Today was exciting unlike yesterday we just rode on out the wagon and sang songs. Today we had to stop because of a broken wheel and my big brother, Tony, had to fix it. But, suddenly a pack of wolves ambushed us! My dad had to grab his ax to scare them away! And our new dog, Buster, chased them off. We had to follow him because we didn't know
Oh, it has been a month. So much has happened. A couple hundred miles into our trip, we looked ahead and say a long line of people. It was the kansas river. When we got up close we could see what the people were doing. One by one the wagons would cross the river. We were thinking about just walking across, the water was only like 2.5 feet deep. We decided it wasn't worth the risk and waited in line. When it was our turn we gave them $1 and started moving across. The river was only about 200 yards across. When we got across we looked back and saw that some people tried crossing without using the fairy. They were stuck. While we waited for the rest of our train we watched them trying to get unstuck. They managed to get out but there wagon and
After a long drive we finally got to our shady camping spot. Before we did anything fun, my mom made us put our huge tent and then put away a ton of groceries right after we had been already waiting two hours.
The group all agreed that we should keep moving and try and find some food. A little while later we arrived at the river, hoping and praying that we would find something to eat or drink. We were driving up the bank of the river when I spotted something shiny behind a few of the trees. I pulled up closer and figured out that there was a bunch of supplies and food! I yelled at the others to come over and see what I had found. We all got off our vehicles and started rading through the pile of stuff. We found quite a few weapons, a bunch of tasty food, and a water filter device. After a quick snack we started thinking about what to do next. We all came to an agreement and decided that we should camp out another night and then head out in the
It was a long process that it took but we got to the point where we could take the smaller pieces over to the trailer. We were on our final main part the middle section of the structure. It was a sort of bulky piece, fairly large. We were going to finish taking the thing apart when my grandpa had the idea to just take the structure over to the fence and move it up and over the fence. I was not up for his idea, I thought that the idea was one a not a very smart idea. Two, an idea that is an impossible task to do. Finally, third, it was an idea that on could happen due to his Parkinson's disease. But one thing about grandpa is that he is very persistence. So trying not to make him mad or anything we follow his orders. Pushing and lifting that bulky thing, we tried with all our might to carry that thing over the fence, which was a task too great for us to have achieved. We tried a first time than a seconded then a third. Finally, on our fourth time, everyone was getting tired. My brother and I knew that we need to tell our father. Dad was pretty mad at what our grandpa did. So he told use to just finish taking it apart and then bring it over to the
We have heard from other family that have journey there and back that it is very difficult but with my faith and compassion we can do it. They have said that the Indians are mean and not very nice that we are coming though their land. My husband is in very good shape for being 38 years old. My expectations are that there will be a lot of dead people along the trail that people just threw them to the side and kept going. I feel like everyone in our wagon in going to be hungry and thirsty. At the end of the journey we are hoping to build a house that is very lovely and have lots of animals and amazing farm land. We will forget about our life back in Delaware and move on from there. We are traveling in our prairie Schooner that we builded from the wood in our forest and I knitted the blanket to go over the top. Pulling the wagon we have 2 ox that we got from my parents and 1 horse we got from our neighbors we they left. We are bring 2 outfits per person so 8 outfits in total. I'm bringing a family portrait with my mom and dad also in it so I don't fully forget about them. We need to bring kitchen and eating utensils. If our wagon breaks we need to have a wagon repair
My second and third visits took place on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening was similar to what I had experienced before, but everyone was distracted by all of the other games and activities which were occurring simultaneously. Therefore, I only conducted a couple of activities such as the beginnings of our stories "Oh, The Places I'll Go!" It was during this visit that I was also able to introduce some of the children to my baby goats and to some dairy cows through pictures. Many of the children had never been near farm aniamls before, and even though they could not pet the picture, I think they enjoyed listening to my experiences. Since my
