The Challenge work was a great opportunity to get to know each and everyone of my classmates. It involved activities that I never knew even existed like the jump rope challenge and the marble challenge. Each activity required the class to work as a team and to come up with different strategies so that we could move onto the next activity. Even though these lessons were made for fun they each had a purpose. The first few activities like stretches were so that we could get to know our classmates. Then we went onto doing the egg, chicken, and hawk activity, which was also so that we could get to know each other. After that we split into two different groups and got to know them. We started with stories that occurred in our lives. Then moved onto
Participating in group activities have never really been my thing, but this project was a great experience. I got the chance to meet individuals with different problem solving solutions than I, and the people I communicate with daily. This project helped me gain communication skills amongst others when trying to make a decision, and the process of coming to an agreement. The knowledge, skills, and abilities I demonstrated throughout the weeks have grown and boosted my confidence when partaking in a group setting. I learned that people are easily offended and it may be hard to steer away from it, but it can be done. Teamwork has always been easy for me because I offer more help than needed to my teammates. The panel discussion taught me that not everyone one wants help, but the opportunity for their opinions to be considered. Each tool I have gained from this experience will make it easier for me to engage with others in the near future in a mannerly way whether it is for a grade or not.
The biggest challenge for me this year was doing my work thoroughly. While on the surface this may seem like something that should be easy, for me it was the first year I was really unable to get away with only giving 75% effort on my work. The assignment that really got me to understand this was an active reading assignment we had early in the school year. When we got into class we were told to define the word “affectation”. While I had read over the article I had not taken the time to define every word and got a 0/5. This assignment was my abyss because of the fact that I missed points that I could have easily received had I spent just another 30 seconds to completely finish my homework. The majority of my challenges occurred after my abyss. A major challenge for me came in my writing. At the beginning of the year I did not realize how important it was to truly stick to the writing process and take time with my writing. In past years I had been able to get away with occasionally drifting off topic during my writing and it took me a while to understand how exactly to approach a paper. Throughout the year I went through a transformation in my writing. After a few writing assignment I began to understand how to approach a paper and my writing has grown since. This year in humanities has left me with a gift. Through Humanities I learned a couple things that I will take away with me and use not just for the rest of highschool but for the rest of my life. One thing I took away was how to approach my work. When facing a large assignment it is important to not be intimidated and procrastinate starting your work. While the first few days of such an assignment can be challenging if you focus and knock out parts of the assignment slowly and concisely the end result of your work will be much better and your last few days doing the assignment will be far less
The challenges I have overcome would be getting to know my classmates. I tend to keep to myself, but this program make you step outside of your comfort zone. This class is all about stepping out, learning new things, and being able to be comfortable with these challenges. This class taught me to trust more people and trust is not something I give out easily. This class also make you look at yourself and makes you comfortable in your own skin.
My greatest challenge in semester 1 is the rap I had to do for my history class and it was hard because I had to make a rap about a certain topic in history. What made it a lot harder for me was that I told my whole group to meet at the library so we can finish the rap but none of them would show up on any of the days I told them to come, so I pretty much had to do the whole project by myself. But what got me mad the most of all was the fact that they still got their points when they pretty much did anything except sing the song with me.
This week in class something that stood out to me was the “pageant”. I think that this activity was a really good way to get us out of out comfort zones. I would never be presenting or talking to my class by choice. We also finished watching Poverty Inc. I really enjoy learning more about the topic of poverty because I feel like we are only given the basics of the topic normally. I think the activities that get us out of our comfort zones are teaching me some life skills for my future.
The first portion dealt with trying to strategically find jobs using the resources Job Scan. Next, working on building strong resumes and cover letters to put out great first impression. As well as prepping for future interviews with a practice interview. Finally we working on creating professional online presence with LinkedIn in order to improve our network. In this class we again were in groups for two assignments. This time I was determined to become a more proactive leader. I decided to be the first to initiate contact with my group through email in order to organize a time for the first group meeting Also, I delegated out the tasks for us to complete based on the meeting objectives. I also was able to make sure a team member who had time conflict was accommodated by actually seeking her out in order to find a time that would best work for her. As I wanted to give an opportunity to have input on the topics during the meeting. Honestly, I believe with time I will become an even more assertive
When we first walked into the classroom, the students were working on individual work that they choose to do. I thought this was a great idea because
Within my team we went to build boat for a boat regatta at a community center where we learned to work together we started from scratch with duct tape and cardboard and had to build the boat up to wear any size person could fit in it. The boat did hold soon as my friend got in it tipped and all the tape came out and the cardboard got wet but it was fun and helping the community out was fun to. We also started attended other school events to help support and show school spirit you can get with the wild west which is our school fan club you dress up to any theme from hawaii theme to super
My team and I were given tasks such as, emergency scenarios in saving a person life, Knowing how to do a successful CPR and using a defibrillator, all in which motivated me to be challenging whilst also teaching me how best to motivate and encourage my peers. I enjoy the challenge of working under pressure and being constantly thrown out of my comfort zone to successfully treat and care people when they are in need and this is another reason why I want to become a paediatric
So far this year in science we have done many things including the cups activity, Saving Sammy, and measurements. One of my favorite activities was the cup activity. My table group had six cups and an “octopus”, a rubber band with eight strings attached. We were told to make a pyramid with the cups and our group almost had it, but then we knocked it over. Another thing I did was operational definitions for measurement. This is where you create the most specific way to measure something such as a part of the body. For example, to measure your height:
For this project, I worked with my group to create a lesson for the Habitat Pen Pals. We each took part in developing the TLEE lesson format. We were prepared to explain our lesson to our P1 class but when we arrived we were informed that there were too many Habitat Pen Pal lessons created. My group volunteered to do the recipe development for another lesson. We completed this and were prepared with what materials were needed. For the outdoors activity, I made sure I was able to take the lead role in my activity. I was prepared to explain to my group what was expected of us and worked with them to make everything run smoothly. Overall, I thought Project Slide was a great experience for both myself and the students.
During the ropes course field trip what seemed most difficult was that i had little trust in my classmates. What lifted my trust in them was that Cristobal, Veronica, Jessica, and Mrs. Clark motivated me to keep going and to not give up. There was a point in which I told Mrs. Clark "I can't do this!!!" And Mrs. Clark responded with "Yes, you can Star!" Hearing that come from her was motivation and courage that came to me. During the "Blame Game" what was most difficult was that we had a difficult time communicating with each other. What was also difficult was that we were all yelling at each other and blaming each other. In the blanket challenge we all managed to cooperate with each other and we were all calm. What made it easier was that
On the other hand, the other members of our group were working on the different sources and different information for the final presentation. I also had to work on the effects of Coca Cola and the conspiracy behind it. It was really a great experience I could have during the semester. We all took a responsibility and we all had a goal. My goal was learning new skills through this activity and deepen my learning abilities. I was very serious and try to focus on our teamwork. So, everyone got a work to do, and we had one week
While the assignment seemed relatively easy- our group being the last to go had already seen multiple other presentations- in reality, things were far more complicated after some brief inspection. Thinking of unique activities that would not seem copied and relatively drab was a major challenge in this process and our group had to spend hours on end to actually create a lesson plan that would entice students into participating and enjoying the class period. Working on this assignment developed my facilitatory skills as an individual and gave me an insight into controlling a large group of people while leading them through educational activities. Handling the class while directing their understanding of the story took extensive skill, and this assignment developed my knowledge of how to handle a situation like this in the future as an individual. Before this project, I already did respect my teachers, and this respect was greatly amplified after I saw how tough it truly was to create uniquely engaging lessons
My group activity was making spider. When Lily told me what we are picked for our group project, I was so confused but when I came to class I know exactly what we are doing. Tori made a spider as an example it was actually cool and easy to make on our own.
