Hundreds of students, along with community members attended to come up with solutions to the problem. One student, Daquan Summers, made a statement at one of the summits, that kids in gangs are responsible for the murders. He said, “I never know that shooting dice or talking about somebody’s mom could get you killed until last year” (Bennett, 2016, para. 5).
With the large number of shootings that have occurred in United States’ history one expected a pattern to exist for the shooters yet it seemed nonexistent. Many variables existed, almost 40 (Mongan,2007), making predicting when a school shooting would occur impossible. Even threats stating a shooting would occur were not valid signs of an upcoming shooting. Many threats originated from students “blowing off steam” and no intention existed to carry out the threat. The FBI created a list of possible ways to evaluate a threat but they caution the reader that not every threat resulted in violence(FBI).
Bullying is a serious problem with the potential of lasting effects. The two boys were planning an attack on the bullies that had made school miserable for them. “they were members of a group of social outcasts called the Trenchcoat Mafia that was fascinated by Goth culture.”( History.com Staff. "Columbine High School Shootings." History.com. A&E Television Networks, 2009. Web. 20 Sept. 2017.) Klebold and Harris initially carried out the shooting as a retaliation for the miserable years in
On an unseasonably cold March morning in 1993, high school sophomore Edward Gillom exited his first period classroom and made his way through the crowded hallways of Harlem High School. After engaging in a heated argument, allegedly over a girl, with Ronricas “Pony” Gibson and Ricoh Lee, Gillom pulled out a .38-caliber gun and opened fire. Gillom’s shots fatally wounded Gibson and left Lee with a non-fatal gunshot wound to the neck (Washington Ceasefire, 2011 pg 1). The shooting in Harlem, Georgia sparked national attention as one of the first high school shootings and added to the alarmingly high rates of gun violence by adolescents during the 1990s. According to the Virginia Youth Violence Project, forty-two homicides took place in

This is Isaiah Carter. After coming back from the heart breaking Normandy Invasion. There’s something more devastating than losing my fellows during the war. I saw the news of Rosa Parks. Because she's black just like me, so she was forced to yield the seat on the bus and she even got arrested by the cops because she refused. Man, what kind of mistakes have we done to deserve all these. Therefore, after serving in the army as a patriot I decide to serve for my African American people. I joined the sit-ins in the 1960. I want the white people to know we are humans too. We African Americans should be treated the same as you white people. Rosa Parks was brave enough to fight against you police officers. Now, I, Isaiah Carter is going to challenge

After reading the assigned article, I can strongly agree with the argument. However, it raises many questions in regards to where our generation as college students are headed. Our college and society as a whole has developed a sense of false justice. Like the article states, people will justify violence if its purpose is to cease any other form of violence. The belief that the First Amendment protects only morally positive opinions is the difference that causes people to have destructive reactions to hearing opinions they fully disagree with. Inciting a panic or violence is different from hateful words. I believe no matter what happens to you or what someone has told you the only thing that will matter is how you react. This new generation

Armed with three stolen rifles and four handguns, the documentary explained that the two youth flushed kids and teachers out of the school by means of a false fire alarm then opened up on them. In the past decades there has been an increase of violence in the schools. This increase causes fear among students, teachers, parents, and all Americans. The deadliest act of school violence was the massacre at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, when a student opened fire and killed Thirty-two students and teachers while wounding seventeen.
