What is happening to Kanye West? At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.
Everything that can be said has been said about the Chicago rapper’s abnormal behavior and illogical ramblings over the past month, which currently range from West espousing on “dragon energy” to claiming that African-Americans in the 1800’s chose to be enslaved. It’s safe to say these accounts do not dissuade the infamous image that West’s constructed since his musical debut in the early 2000’s, though for many, his statements as of late have damaged their view of the artist beyond repair.
While Kanye is certainly no stranger to criticism, the newest wave of public disapproval feels different. Media outlets and fans alike are hesitant to fully embrace the rapper’s trademark

Though both articles are written by two different authors, the illustration of shifting public opinion in reaction to West’s conduct is clear. The closing paragraph taken from a 2015 article titled “Kanye West, the Antihero” portrays him as a champion of oppressed minorities:
“Taking in the full arc of Kanye’s career, he is more glorious anti-hero than activist; his war is a vigilante mission against those trying to disparage ‘black people with ideas.’ As a black man who behaves like his (proverbial) white in-laws’ home is his own, he continually sets an example for the ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothin’’ generation he has raised up, showing they have the right to resist and the right to

In light of his previous antics, many theorized that Kanye’s career would be remembered more for his troubled persona than his characteristic talents – in many ways, that fear became a reality. Arguably, the reason my parents know Kanye West exists is not due to his creative output — I’m positive my dad could not name a single song from “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” — but because he’s a controversial figure and married to Kim Kardashian. The image that instantly comes to mind when West’s name enters the conversation is not of the soul-sampling producer, but the rambunctious tabloid icon. In the eyes of some fans, these ramblings — coupled with Kanye’s endorsement of President Trump — deprive the musician of any credibility and call his entire discography into question.
After all that’s happened, should Kanye West still be considered a genius? I believe the better question to ask is, was Kanye West ever a genius in the first place?
If one were to go about answering this inquiry simply based solely on his achievements, the answer should be an overwhelming yes. The artist’s approach to music shaped an entire generation and forever changed the way the medium is marketed, sold, and digested. Music will forever be indebted to Kanye
Throughout Kanye West’s prolific career, he has possessed an intricate sound that has separated him from his hip-hop counterparts. After the immense praise he received on his breakout album, College Dropout, it was no surprise that Kanye West would perform at the same level on his second album, Late Registration. West presented an innovative and soulful sound to the hip-hop industry, earning individuals’ ears and hearts. With lyrics that discussed themes of poverty, drug abuse, and domestic issues and samples that provided a sense of nostalgia, Kanye West was steadily transforming into a political icon far beyond the means of his hip-hop artistry. With such empowering and sincere lyrics, Kanye West served as the voice of historically marginalized people, whose voices were seemingly unheard before. In the song “Drive Slow,” West’s guidance and empowering message remained evident, as he joined forces with GLC and Paul Wall to create a soulful song that offered assistance on how to overcome barriers in life. Through the use of suggestive details, figurative language, and vivid storytelling, West utilizes the automobile culture to assert how individuals can achieve success of every field of human endeavor through constant efforts in the right direction. In addition, he also attempts to convey that one must “drive slow” in a car in order to appreciate the environment that consists outside of the automobile. West creates a double entendre of the word “drive slow,” expressing that
When it comes to running a business, your hustle and work ethic are your bread and butter. Sure, you may have a product that is out of this world, but if your business model is shaky, it could spell trouble for your brand. There is something to be said for Kanye’s consistency in his message and branding. Likeable or not, the rapper believes in his goals, which is crucial to the equation.
Kanye Omari West, an icon of hip-hop, pop culture, fashion and music in general. Kanye Omari West, a person belittled against and a person subjected to a life of racism and hate. Born on June 8th, 1977, Donda West, West’s mother, always knew he was destined for greatness, but did she know her son would turn out to be the Kanye West, a man lacking the respect he deserves for transforming a big part of the music we listen to on this very day? West came onto the scene in the late nineties but didn’t release The College Dropout until 2004, an album that took everybody by surprise. Kanye West changed the gangster filled rap genre by releasing his positive, soulful debut album, changing the way rappers
Kanye West also known as "Yeezy" is American rapper, fashion disaster, and also music producer. People may say that Mr. West is our youth of today voice. He has made a tremendous mark in the music and fashion industry. As we all know Mr. West is known for having his moments. It is safe to say that he has the best and top “omg” Moments, such as interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMA’s. Kanye in the begging when he first came on the hip hop scene was this calm, joyful, his music in my eyes was the most different music out at the time, just because he wasn’t rapping about what everyone else was. Kanye was one of those joyful guys, everybody wanted him on his record or produce it. Then a tragic event occurred where his mom died. After then you see
money is a weird subject when it comes to Kanye... there is no doubt that he makes lots of money (i mean come on his net worth is 142 million) but he has lots of "ideas" that he wastes his money on, He once tweeted that he's fifty-million dollars in debt!! that's crazy! especially for someone who makes so much money, He's not very smart when it comes to money but he is when it comes to his influence, his platform in pop culture is humongous he's probably one of the most influential celebrities of his time and he knows that which is a good and bad thing, Kanyes problem isn't that he's a bad person but the fame has definitely gone to his head and don't get me wrong he has done some great things with this platform but he's also done some questionable ones kanye sees himself as misunderstood, or a genius and when you hve that mind set you tend to get a little out of hand. "Pop culture has pop-psychologized Kanye as being a narcissist an egomaniac suffering a god-complex and or delusional/out of his mind" but people still like him.. they still buy his music, why? because he is
In his spoken word song “I Love Kanye”, West pokes fun at the media’s egotistical perception of himself. He raps, “What if Kanye made a song about Kanye? // Call it ‘Mr. Old Kanye’, man that’d be so Kanye // that’s all it was Kanye, we still love Kanye // and I love you like Kanye loves Kanye…” (I Love 1). This is evidence that Kanye isn’t the blind, egotistical, out of control superstar. Kanye West is just like everyone
Kanye West produced the popular song “All Falls Down” in 2004. He is well known for creating many wonderful tunes but this one stands out above the rest. While his other songs contain bass-heavy instrumentals and contain lyrics about money and women, this one is strays away from the previous structures. “All Falls Down” catches the attention of youth, with its mellow melody, to send a strong message concerning the overemphasis on money and education and how it can be harmful through the lyrics. The issues contained in the message are highly focused on the idea that money and education will not always be there
Kanye West likely seeks reinforcement and loves attention, negative or positive from individuals he does not know, or is not familiar with because of his constant need for attention. He acts the way he does due to his thought process and erratic personality/ personality disorders.
Lastly, the rapper was not tied down to a specific area. He, like most artists, traveles over vast settings. He has gone on multiple tours around the world. But because he has become as successful as he is, he has the opportunity to travel places like Israel, Cuba, and many more countries. Although West travels the world for his music, supporting certain current events plays a part in why and where he travels: “West appeared on an NBC broadcast to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina” (“Kanye”). Kanye West not only worries about
“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you…I’ll let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” (West). Most people if they don’t know anything about Kanye West, they know this quote. When anybody hears his name everybody always has an opinion. Some people love him, while a lot of other people hate him, each for a variety of reasons. Though most people only see the arrogant and egotistic side of Kanye, the more important side that people don’t always see is the hardworking musician. In order to fully understand Kanye’s motives and to fully appreciate him, people have to know how he got to the point he is now today.
"I completely lost everything, but I gain everything because I lost the fear." This is a great quote from the man that inspires me the most. Kanye west is a rapper, fashion designer, and music producer from the south side of Chicago. I know what you are all thinking. Kanye west is an arrogant, egotistical, self-centered individual. To love Kanye west is to know to Kanye west. He is very intelligent and he is not scared to try things. He always talking about bringing people. He talks about in this interview about people with creative minds not being able to express themselves, because of how the world has us marketed and branded. He is not scared to do the songs that most other artists will not do. New slaves, diamond from sierra lone,
Throughout his career Kanye has spent time not only making music but also educating himself. He has spent money on learning from his mistakes. He has gained knowledge and more confidence that will allow him to protect his dreams. In his latest single he raps:
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy boasted an amazing maximalist approach that boarded on a hip hop opera symphony with lyrics that were memorable and verses that can rank as the best hip hop verses of all time. It was an album filled with legendary moments that music fans will remember for ages, and moments Kanye fan boys will yell at his concerts. This reaction by hip hop fans for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was immediate. For Yeezus, it was different. Yeezus’ minimalistic approach threw fans and critics off due to the very left field and experimental approach he took for this album, both sonically and thematically. In spite of this, Yeezus still manages to hold up it’s quality, value, and impact in comparison to his preceding albums while becoming one of the most important hip hop albums of all time.
In his Grammy award winning song “Stronger,” voice of our generation Kanye West eloquently raps “I know I got to be right now, ‘cause I can’t get much wronger.” Though his statement in context refers to his longing for love, it can be interpreted in a way that emphasizes a blind assumption of correctness. In his words, West speaks in a contradictory fashion, in that he, as a person, cannot get “much wronger,” so he must be “right.” In doing this, West blurs the line between socially constructed definitions of “right” and “wrong,” raising the question, “are humans truly capable of being able to differ between these two concepts?” Related to the ideas posed by “Stronger,” Don DeLillo’s White Noise delves into this sort of moral ambiguity, a gray
From being known to creating compose hip-hop music, a fashion icon and establishing a foundation with his mother to being seen as the most hated celebrity in the entertainment industry. Kanye West took it upon himself to defend his opinion when it came to the winner of the Best Female Video on the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. By taking the stage and grabbing the microphone from the country music star Taylor Swift and basically stating that she did not deserve the title. The event left the audience and TV land very stocked. What some may not realize is that Kanye West displayed multiple stereotypes that society may think African Americans possess. The stereotypes, which were displayed, were drunkenness, outspokenness and the fact that a
