Riding on the roads of Dubai is essentially a fieldtrip in itself. There is so much to see form the drop-dead architecture to the metro; from the vigorously kept grass to the natural desert, and of course the tantalizing advertisements. Whether it’s a new product or a new city you’ll see it… on cardboard. Oh, did I mention the expensive line-up of luxury cars that roam around too? The highway is surrounded by high rises and each one has its own unique architecture. Being a rather futuristic/touristy city all the buildings seem to have adapted a code. Rule number one would probably be: One must create a unique and eye-catching exterior. Rule number two: One must decorate said exterior with astounding array of lights when sun sets. You can sometimes see the metro running alongside the highway on the elevated bridge. But, of course, not the whole highway is surrounded by buildings. There are also many construction sites which give a window into what Dubai used to be like: a lot of dust and sand. There are some parts however, in which one might spot a bit of greenery. It’s both artificial and real at the same time. Artificial in the sense that it’s not natural to the land and that it must be watered ten times a day to maintain, and real in the sense that it’s not a piece of plastic. Which is commendable because of the arid climate here. As I’m sure we all know, no road is complete without advertisements and Dubai is no different. For example it’s hard to miss the huge brick wall that runs a few miles long advertising Dubai Sports City that is currently being built. Or the huge structure that’s concealing the construction site of Dubai Lagoon and at the same time is ostentatiously showing off what it’s supposed to look like. Then of course there are the regular advertisements of phones and such glowing at nighttime and commanding your attention. But no analysis of the roads of Dubai is complete without the cars that roam on the road. Mostly you’ll see the average Toyota or Nissan. But also accompanying them are Benzes, Lexi, and other luxury/exotic cars. The unusual thing is the quantity of these types of cars which number unusually high.
