Key Concepts 4.1 Globalizing Networks for Communication and Exchange.
4.1 The degree of global interconnection greatly increased after 1500 CE at which point it started to include the Americas, and parts of the world it had not before. BEfore this time period the globe was only connected in the eastern hemisphere and places were not as open and involved with one another everywhere. After this time period trade of materials, people, and crops became more prominent and new things were introduced to new areas, this was mainly due to the introduction of water based trade and the introduction of the Americas to the rest of the globalized world.
4.1.1 The global trade network introduced after 1500 CE affected the pre-existing trade routes only in that there was a new trade network that was becoming prominent so some other trade routes started to get used less and by different people. An example of this would be how the Europeans did not travel on the Silk Road as often because they had a new means of transportation and trade that took them to another part of the world. But overall there was not an extremely large impact on the pre-existing trade routes in the world.
4.1.11 A The development and improvement of maritime tools such as compasses, boats, and maps made the transoceanic European trade and travel possible. This is because the new developments made it easier to travel for longer periods of time and it was easier to get where someone needed to be without getting lost.
4.1.II.A What technical developments made transoceanic European travel & trade possible? Some of the technical developments that made transoceanic trade possible were wide-hulled sailing ships, astrolabes, compasses, and guns.
One of the most significant reasons why the trade route through the Indian Ocean had the most positive impact around the world is because it allowed merchants to
| * New trade routes were made, such as the Indian Ocean routes, and old routes were expanded upon, like the silk
Between the years 1492 through 1750 a new world was discovered that was before unknown to the eastern hemisphere. New contacts were formed in the Atlantic world due to the discovery and colonization of the Americas and later African slave trade, which were both very major events of this time. These interactions mainly affected Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas, whose economies were broadened and social structures further developed and altered as a result.
With the ever emerging civilizations in numerous parts of the world, food aided in linking them together. Food-trade routes acted as inter-boundary communication networks that improved not just commercial exchange but religious and cultural exchange as well. Spice routes that spanned the ancient world resulted in cross cultural fertilization in fields which were very diverse, similar then to the fields of architecture, religion and science. The first geographers began to take interest in people and customs from far away places and put together the first efforts at world maps. But by far the biggest change caused by food trade was as a result of the European need to avoid the Arab spice domination. The result of this was the revelation of a new world, the establishment of first colonial outposts by the European nations and the opening of maritime trade routes
Between the 1400s and 1800s, there were many religious, scientific, political, economic and military transformations that revolutionized the history of the world and how humans interacted with one another. This time period allowed for the globalization of the world that resulted from extended networks between continents and people. Every region of the world had become linked with one another, and these networks allowed for communication and exchange that connected individuals and societies. The world's population was increasing and more complex connections between individuals, continents and the world at large were being made. Specifically, the Columbian exchange, the Atlantic slave trade, the Protestant reformation, and the French revolution
One significant changes of the Silk Road is when it was first started it mainly started as a way for trade to flourish between Europe and Asia. But the purpose of this Silk Road has also expanded to transcend different culture and technologies from different places and caused cultural diffusion along the Silk Road. This happened
The Silk Road was a ancient trade route that was used from Asia, Europe and Africa. This was very useful to all of these places because they were able to trade items they don't need to get items back that they needed. The Silk road started at 120 Bc and lasted until 450 Ce. Since it went on for so long there were many things that had a big impact on Europe and Asia. The Silk Road had the biggest impact on Asia and Europe because of the spreading of religions, the four great Chinese inventions, trading items and by disease.
Empires were growing in diversity and culture and the trade routes allowed larger amounts of goods and people to travel or communicate.
Trade networks were a vital part of the political, economical, and cultural developments of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and China. A trade route is a network used to transport goods to other countries. Trade networks made a huge impact on the political, economical, and cultural developments in China, the Middle East and Africa, and Europe.
Throughout the development of human communication, no service proved more useful than that of the Silk Road. It was a network of trade, employing travelers to trek across the world to buy and sell goods along the eastern hemisphere. This constant web of bartering and trading led to societies becoming more intertwined and connected with one another, creating a large social and economic trades. Throughout 500 BCE - 1000 CE, the eastern hemisphere experienced a series of changes and continuities directly from the emergence of the Silk Road. The eastern hemisphere societies underwent heavy population increase due to trade, but the purpose of the Silk Road never changed. Some trade routes that comprised the entire network include overland trade from China to Rome and the Indian Ocean Sea Lanes that joined Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean basin.
Many things changed as a result of the Silk Road. These changes being, the circulation of many religions and the population decrease. The spread of Buddhism, a contemporary religion, even today, was in part due to the Silk Road. Massive outbreaks of diseases were detrimental to populations and brought tragedy to many. The Silk Road was imperfect in the sense that it caused the rich, prosperous empires to have a surplus of money and have power over all others. In the same respect, however, the road provided many small countries to develop and evolve with the ever increasing technological
How was the global trade network of the 15th century different from that of previous eras?
During 1500-1775, there were three different processes being brought into the world. This is what Robert Marks discusses in chapter 3. One that he mentioned was one that I really liked analyzing. “Most parts of the world were drawn into regular, ongoing contact in ways that had never happened in the past.” (Page 67). Robert Marks was talking about how Christopher Columbus’s voyage has made “separate” worlds united together as one. This is when the “New World” was created. Relationships began to form around the world and these relationships grew stronger due to the exchanges of ideas, foods, people, and even germs. This gave the sixteenth-century the name “first generalization”.
The development of global networks is happening very rapidly. The number of Internet users in the world today is about 300 million people, and their number continues to grow. A new user registers to the Internet every two or three seconds. The number of web pages grows every day, and today there is more than a billion. Internet opens up a great opportunities for the distribution of information. You can find any interesting information online at any time, and then it can be easily copied to your hard drive. To truck the further use the copied material is very difficult. Subsequently, the same material can appear on another site – without specifying a name of an author, it can be in a distorted form, or both. And here arises a lot of
