My major is Kinesiology and with my degree I hope to become an athletic director. The main reason why I am taking this course is for my minor where I plan to have a background with Health Service Admission.
With my degree, organizational behavior helps me with predicating human behavior at work, and the perspective needed to manage individuals from diverse background. One of my long career dreams is to end up working for a major league team somewhere on the sport management side. One major change that is happening the NBA is that the league is starting to give re to the female who understand the game. Roughly five years ago, many people laugh at the idea of a lady as a referee or sitting with a coach staff. Now the league has respected the
As Kinesiology is being more recognized around the country, I want to further my study in the Masters of Science degree in Kinesiology at California State University of Fullerton (CSUF). The fields that I want to grasp are Health and Fitness Promotion and Exercise Physiology. The reason why I am applying to the program is to expand my knowledge and teach Kinesiology outside of school in order to promote health. Throughout my life, my family has been promoting me with fitness from indoor sports to aquatic sports. I was constantly switching from physical therapy and health and fitness.

Sexism has played its part in many different work environments for quite some time. It especially raises big conversation, and an ongoing problem in the sports industry. Not only does it affect the women who work in the industry, but also homosexuals, and minorities. For so long sexism has been a topic of discussion, but no real attempts at change have been made. If there was more protection for woman and players who work in sports, it could help to get women more involved in the field, establish rules that will protect people from sexism, and diminish some of the controversy between the two opposing sexes.
When I first came into UNCC, I was stressed out since I had an undeclared major. All of my friends already knew their academic plan of study, and I was totally clueless. I spent all of last semester researching a major that I would be interested in pursuing. Declaring pre-Kinesiology was exciting for me because I finally found an “in-between.” In other words, I always wanted to work in the healthcare field, but I’ve always been more interested in the anatomy aspect of it.
Women’s equality is an issue that has been around for awhile. While women have been given many rights to increase equality, including the right to vote and go to college, the problem hasn’t completely vanished. One area that still sees this is in sports. Women’s sports do not draw nearly as many fans and are not covered in the media as much as men’s sports, pay differences between male and female athletes are large, and female athletes have to wait longer to start their professional career than men, which risks their professional career before it even starts.
Hello, my name is Angelica Villalta. I am a senior in the Kinesiology department. I hope to become a physical therapist one day. I am taking this class because I am interested in it and I need it for my degree. I hope to learn the various psychological skills for better performance and also just how the brain impacts an athlete or anyone involved in physical activity.
In the first half of my undergrad I have worked towards earning a degree in biology and chemistry with the aim of getting into medical school. After a summer of shadowing 12 different areas in the medical field, I have recently gained an interest in the specialty of orthopedics. With experience in both the surgical and clinical settings in this specialty, I became fascinated with the diagnosis and treatment of deformities or functional impairments to the movement systems of the body, primarily the skeletal system and its associated structures such as muscles and ligaments. Kinesiology is defined as the study of the principles of anatomy, physiology, and mechanics in relation to human movement. Therefore, orthopedic doctors often diagnose and treat injuries that can be explained by principles of kinesiology. Kinesiology is often split up into three separate disciplines: musculoskeletal anatomy, neuromuscular physiology and biomechanics. Each of these disciplines is applied in the field of orthopedics to aid in accurate diagnoses.
The NBA and WNBA give the equal opportunity of playing professional basketball to both men and women, but the ages at which they are allowed to start their career differ. These age eligibility rules are believed by some to give an unequal opportunity to female basketball players. In the article, “Hoop Dreams Deferred: The WNBA, The NBA, And The Long-Standing Gender Inequality At The Game’s Highest Level”, N. Jeremi Duru discusses the age eligibility rules for the NBA and WNBA. Topics included are how they are different, how the difference is unfair to females, and how the NBA can be held responsible for the inequality to women. As a professor of law, Duru has a professional approach to the topic with a lengthy article that has claims backed by laws and has a legal case feel.
I am a senior majoring in Kinesiology and Health. I hope to go to Physical Therapy school. I registered for this class because I would like to gain more knowledge on how to use social media professionally. For example, I would like to learn how to use linkedin and network with others online. I am looking forward to see what this class has to offer.
In my opinion I don’t think there is aren’t hiring discrimination against women at the NBA coaching jobs. Why, because I don’t really think that women are applying to be a head coach for the men’s league. They prefer to coach women teams so they feel that that they are being heard and respected. Now I’m not saying that women cannot be a head coach and can’t get the men to respect them. Now let’s talk about stacking occurs. Stacking is when you place in this term women in a position that the men don’t want. In this case there would be hiring discrimination because women are applying to these positions and the owners are selecting the men instead and giving the women who applied a different passion. If this is happening in real life that’s not
After completing my undergraduate studies in Kinesiology, I want to expand my knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology, and IONM seems to be an ideal fit. I found out about Safe Passage my senior year while attending the University of Rhode Island through a neurophysiologist who currently works for the company. She told me about the program that is offered and the career opportunities that it entails. Working in the healthcare industry has always been something I have always dreamed of and I cannot pass up the opportunity of working in an actual operating room. I was drawn to anatomy early in college which led to a desire to understand and study more of the human body as a whole. By pursuing this field of study, I am directly impacting people’s
This week I attended the Kinesiology department's career fair with WeViva to give out information about our contractor and internship positions. It was really nice to be able to be on the other side of the table, instead of being the person trying to find an internship. I noticed that I was speaking really comfortable because I was not under a position of stress at all, compared to those walking up to us to ask for information. I explained to several individuals what WeViva does and what the program internship consists of, as well as answer questions. I was able to mentally divide individuals who walked up to our table, based on the first impression and communication skills. There were people who knew what they were looking for, had the right questions, and overall presented themselves in a very professional manner and there were also those that were really lost, nervous, and who did not show any interest at all.
Using kinesiology as a major to learn about body movement would benefit me when I continue my education to learn how to regain movement in the body. I know that this is what I want to do with my life and kinesiology would be the best step for me to reach my goal. I want to make a difference in people’s lives and it would be so rewarding to be able to watch these people grow and return to doing the activities they love to do. I love to be challenged and I
I picked up this course half way through the semester because I needed to take just one extra credit to fulfill my financial aid requirements. I knew when I registered for this course it would be good for me, I would be required to work out at least two times a week. Though I never thought I would learn lessons from this class and pick up skills that I can apply to my life after this class had ended. I had learned many things through these eight weeks, but there are two pieces of knowledge that I have gained from this course that are most important to me.
You bring up such an interesting topic presently in the game of hockey. Historically, the game has not been very accommodating for women in leadership positions in the sport. Yet, even in rare occasions when women were granted positions in professional hockey, they were criticized by many for their lack of knowledge of the sport and leadership skills. For example, in 2013, the former, professional minor league team, 1000 Islands Privateers (Federal Hockey League) of Alexandria Bay, NY were coached by their female owner and president, Nicole Kirnan, at the end of the season after their head coach, Paul Kelly, resigned. Although the team won games, Kirnan’s tenure was met with criticism from bloggers. This is a good read concerning
