Rough Draft I would always remember during my seventh year, our science teacher would talk about how cannabis(marijuana) was bad for you. For me, the media, the teachers, and other people showed the negative side of marijuana. Two years ago, whenever I thought of the drug, I would think Oh marijuana is bad, it can cause addiction, it can change your life for the worse. Later I would figure out that it used as a medicine that would stimulate the mind. As I learned more about the drug, I saw that the media has shown marijuana as a drug that can lead to addiction and how people have been using it to get high. Now there is a new plant that has has similar effects to marijuana and it also has controversy on whether it should be legal or not. …show more content…

If Kratom was deemed illegal, many people will suffer because of the benefits of Kratom. With the benefits of Kratom, it has been used for many reasons. One of those reasons is for fighting addictions. Many people use Kratom to fight the urge to use drugs. If they were to ban Kratom, people would have more problems trying to fight off the using drugs. Kratom has been used as a anxiolytic because Kratom can boost energy through metabolic activities and its can also be used for maintaining your mood swings. Kratom has also been used for aiding the sexual functions.
I think that Kratom shouldn't be banned because it hasn’t been fully inspected. This is a website stating that the DEA is taking a second look into Kratom http://www.wbrc/story. The DEA are now starting to break down the plant to see if it can cause major problems. So if they ban Kratom, they wouldn’t of even inspected the plant to see if it is either a natural painkiller or a addictive
For the last century there has been an abundance of false information being spread about the drug marijuana. Even in commercials on television, misleading facts about the drug have been presented to the audience. Some misconceptions about the drug include its potential to cause addiction, the damaging of brain cells, genetic damage, violent behavior, and damage to the immune system. These misconceptions, which have plagued a large percentage of the population into thinking that marijuana is a bad drug, have caused many set backs in the process of gradual legalization. On Nov 8th if you asked Arizona, what is marijuana? About51% of your answers would have shed some sort of negative light on the plant and what it does to your body. After years and years of lies being told to the public by our government America is almost to a point in which the negative stigma surrounding weed can be removed and replaced with an understanding of marijuana and the effects it has on people and potentially society. What many people fail to realize is before the hippies and teenagers got hold of marijuana it was a very prevalent part of the world. From 2737 B.C. to 2016 Marijuana has been used to for numerous reasons: It’s been used to create textiles, ease pain and even just get the occasional high which has been a very common practice throughout history. Weed contains psychoactive materials and creates an intoxicating effect on its user which could very well spark creativity in ones
The unauthorized use of this herb has spread to Western societies in recent years, much to the chagrin of the DEA and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials who view Kratom as a threat to public health. On
My mind has changed on the topic of marijuana. I used to be strongly opposed to the thought of the legalization but now I agree more with the Liberal party of Canada and think it should be legalized. When I did the research for the “Who Stands Where?” final culminating activity for Unit 1 had new thoughts about marijuana and the sigma hat is attached to it, I think if it was legalized the stigma would be gone and children and adults would no longer use it. The Liberal party of Canada has been
Growing up, time and time again, we are urged not to do drugs and are told that “drugs are bad for you,” in schools, at home and by many other authority figures. A child typically does not fully understand the reasoning behind this, all they know is that everyone is telling them that drugs are either bad, unhealthy or unsafe without real reasoning. As a child matures, he or she observes people that use drugs even though it is illegal and they do not understand why someone would go against the law and even jeopardize their health to use such drugs. The drug most commonly seen in our culture is marijuana and it is all around everywhere. Marijuana is shown throughout today’s culture in the media that people enjoy such as: movies, music and TV shows, the people using it do not even attempt to hide the fact that they use this substance. Young adults who have personal experience with the drug know its effects on themselves, as well as others, and wonder why it is still illegal. Why is it that this drug has been illegalized across the globe? The debate to legalize marijuana in the United States of America, alone, has been fought over nonstop since the appearance of the drug in the late 30’s. Marijuana has been tested and proven to provide a very positive impact on the American society for several reasons, including economic, medical and crime factors: all of which could very well help America to thrive in the future.
Marijuana. Stinking filthy disgusting marijuana. Your church says it 's the Devil 's tool. Your government says it directly accounts for almost all crime and skumbags on the streets. Your teachers said "just say no." Your grandmother says it 's a "dirty Mexican drug." But the question is: what do you think about it? Did you ever actually have a chance, or the educated means, to make an informed decision and personal policy on marijuana? Or did you just follow the judicial trend? You pick up this article and furrow your brow; maybe this article could really help you out. Afterall, you 're smart enough to look past the stigmas and stereotypes for a moment to see the bigger picture. *** From the federal government 's point of view,
Currently, marijuana is listed in Schedule 1, which makes it highly addictive with no medical benefit. Lowering the classification would make marijuana available for medical use, making it palatable to prohibitionist. Kreit rejects the idea and used the Controlled Substance Act (CSA) as a rationale that rescheduling marijuana to a lower level or removing it altogether would not meet U.S. treaty
Marijuana is not completely legal anywhere, it is just decriminalized. This plant would replace many of the current medicines and treatments that we as a society currently have which inclines me to believe that is a big reason why it is illegal in the first place. The big pharmaceutical companies would lose out on a lot of money if their customers switched over to a more natural alternative. Personally, I have a strong belief that marijuana is no worse than cigarettes and alcohol, I would go as far to say marijuana is better than majority of the controlled substances that are currently legal and drugs recommended for medicinal use. I also strongly believe that marijuana is addictive just like any other drug, and to criminally punish those who use is just wrong. Drug users aren’t criminals for just using the drug, they are just in dire need of help. Decriminalization would relieve these wasted funds on a drug war that cannot be won. These replenished resources could in turn be used for rehabilitation centers and programs creating awareness on the harmful effects of
Recently, marijuana and prescription medications have been vigorously debated since numerous states in the United States have legalized medicinal marijuana, and in a recent event in the world, Uruguay legalized marijuana and the government regulates and sells it. Many marijuana researchers are saying that marijuana could cease the need for numerous amount of prescription drugs because marijuana can help with such a diverse amount of illnesses and diseases. Marijuana, compared to prescription medications from a medicinal standpoint, has no harmful side effects, marijuana also helps with a wide range of problems and users on marijuana can't overdose contrasted to the numerous prescription pills Americans overdose or die on every year.
Create an introduction that generally introduces the problem using a statistic or true narrative example. States should consider that legalizing recreational marijuana would increase the use of marijuana amongst not only adults but adolescence. This law could potentially increase crimes and the number of arrests for driving under the influence of drugs, which puts the safety of our citizens at risk. Each state should consider what the influence of legalizing marijuana will have and properly research the positive and negative impacts that this law would bring to their state’s economy, safety of citizens, and the stability of an individual as well as their family’s foundation. In order to keep our citizen, our children, and our streets safe each state should become knowledgeable of the direct impacts that this law would have and properly educate all those voting for this law.
Although marijuana use was decreasing in 1977, recent studies show differently today. According to an Article written Bridget M. Kuehn (2013), the opposite results are occurring with media’s positive portrayal of marijuana’s benefits ―do to debate on its medical uses. Marijuana use is now on the rise, with The National Institute on Drug Abuse reporting a steady claim since 2006 (p.429). Kuehn (2013) Writes, “20.6% of twelfth graders view[…] occasional use as harmful and only 44.1% see[…] regular use as harmful [the] … lowest level of marijuana harm perception among High School seniors since 1979” (p.429). What is the cause of this change in attitude? Some people feel that it is the media to blame.
The topic of drugs can be a dismal one. We have the opioid crisis, antibiotics creating superbugs and the worry over whether or not the world will have enough rainforests in the future to create more medicines. In the news it seems drugs are no good. While this appears to be a dark cloud of gloom and doom, marijuana is the silver lining. That is why I support the legalization of marijuana.
In life you are told that “Drugs are bad for you,” whether if they are legal or illegal people still take these substances. When you are little you do not understand why people take drugs, why people risk their freedom to use drugs, and what drugs really do to your body. For decades it has been discussed whether marijuana should stay illegal or if it should be legalized in the United States. Some people argue that marijuana is a “gateway” drug to harder drugs and others say it is a completely harmless substance. The people that think marijuana should stay illegal say I causes addiction and it starts an obsession in people’s lives. I can agree with this to some extend because I believe a person can become addicted to anything, however I ultimately think that it is not such a big problem and that there are much worse drugs that are legal.
Marijuana has been used by people over many centuries for medical uses. It is a natural pain killer used today as a recreational drug by people all over the world. According to Noel Merino in, “Introduction to Gateway Drugs: Opposing Viewpoints”, “a drug is something other than food intended to affect the structure or function of the body”. Marijuana is a very controversial drug and has been outlawed in many countries for its affect on the function of the body. “Effects may involve hallucinations, impaired judgment, and mood swings.” Describes the effects of marijuana in “Marijuana” Current Issues Macmillian social science library. During the past century Marijuana has been legal, made illegal, strictly enforced, decriminalized,
Drugs are a major influential force in our country today. The problem has gotten so out of hand that many people are even considering legalization of one of the most used drugs, marijuana. The legalization of marijuana is a controversial issue that has been fought for and against for several decades. Marijuana is defined as a preparation made from the dried flower clusters and leaves of the cannabis plant, which is usually smoked or eaten to induce euphoria and to heal and soothe. (dictionalr.com)
