The pride and seize power of being a King is just a burden and nothing to Macbeth. It is undeniable that Lady Macbeth had a strong desire on early presence and power-hungry. Although Macbeth was driven through the persuasion of Lady Macbeth; the greed of power and his own ambition is what truly pushes Macbeth to fulfill his desire. The death of Lady Macbeth and the rapid change of his authority showed a strong connection between each other; causing Macbeth to fully understand the meaningless of life, where ones power and influence vanishes when the lifetime is over. At the beginning of Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy, she has no intention of waiting for a chance to crown Macbeth as king; where she manipulates Macbeth to commit the crime as she is willing to risk anything to crown Macbeth; and she sees Macbeth’s ambition, (and how he is) unable to mentally convince himself to (carry out the plan). The greed for power and the strong desire on early presence of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth is clearly shown as they get corrupted by the avarice for power “...screw your courage to the sticking place, And we’ll not fail”. In Macbeth it seems to be, that Macbeth the protagonist of the play is influence by Lady Macbeth's ambition. Could this be an exception or was Lady Macbeth lying when she ask to be equal to a man so she could commit the murder (1.5.33.45-61). Lady Macbeth appears evil, but this is proof of her devotion and drive to assist Macbeth rise to the throne. Macbeth is doubtful about their plan to kill King Duncan; however, Lady Macbeth bombards him with comments that question his courage. She goes as far as telling him his love his worth nothing if he refuses, which proves her to be dominant and controlling using his own weakness against him. His love for her. The fact that she belittles his confidence, insults his abilities, and questions his manhood & ambitions showing how manipulative she can be, but also wise because it worked in her favour. Macbeth’s ambition is powered by the sisters. Through the sisters he learns that he is to be king, he does not know how he is going to become king however. Ambition is the key to his downfall. Before he had this ambition he said that he would never have dreamed of killing the king to become king. The ambition drove him to kill the king, so that he could become then king.
As a result, she stated the following, “Come you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood.” Through this she begs the spirits to take away any sympathy within in her in order to have the wit, desire, and drive her husband lacked of in order to become royalty. Through Lady Macbeth, Shakespeare shows there’s no such thing as impossible on the way to getting what one wants. In addition to giving up her femininity, Lady Macbeth also sacrifices her morals by convincing her husband to kill the king, when failing to do so; she states, “When you durst do it, then you were a man.” In other words she convinces Macbeth to kill King Duncan, despite knowing what a horrid crime that was. The struggle to go through anything standing in her way caused her to lose herself as well as her sanity. After realizing what she had caused, she began to lose her mind. She would constantly see her hands covered in blood by those who had been murdered along the way. Unable to get rid of the image in her head, led her to eventually commit suicide.
Our ambitions are what drives us to do the things that we do, it is what motivates us to achieve our goals and desires. Most of the time however, we go too far and overstep our boundaries and sometimes our moral codes all to get what we want and this is evident in Williams Shakespeare’s play The Tragedy of Macbeth. Macbeth represents all of us in some way albeit to an exaggerated state because like Macbeth, we are greedy and desire more than what we need or really want.
