It takes real courage, to dance in front of people, but even more so when you don’t know the song you are dancing to or what style you are dancing. I almost had to do that but thankfully I didn’t make it far enough in a dance competition. This dance competition is no ordinary dance competition. It is a week-long dance convention/competition in Las Vegas called The Dance Awards. It is one of the hardest dance competitions because to compete to have to win a scholarship and one of their regional conventions Nuvo, Jump, or 24Seven. I won mine at the convention Nuvo in Santa Clara. On the first day of the Dance Awards, you complete your solo and audition For pretty much the rest of the week you take master classes from the best choreographers
Penn State athletes are ready to dance at the annual THON. The dance marathon is going to benefit pediatric cancer research. The Penn State IFC or Panhellenic Dance Marathon, known as THON, is going to happen this weekend.
The buzzing of razors and the clipping of scissors filled the basement of the Iowa Memorial Union. A few girls are wiping away tears as their golden locks fall to the ground. Our friends are taking photos and videos of our reactions. Other girls are chatting about how much they want to cut off, while others are complaining about how much their feet hurt. It is four in the morning, we are only nine hours in, we still have fifteen hours left.
What is the Disney extravaganza? The National Cheer Association and the National Dance Alliance create the Disney extravaganza as one team. The National Cheer Association is abbreviated NCA. The National Dance Alliance is known as the NDA. The Disney Extravaganza is only a small portion of a big parade. This portion is a Christmas dance that is put on by a team made up of NCA and NDA participants. The video of the dance is combined with smaller portions of the parade and the shows to make one parade. The parade is seen by viewers on Christmas day. The parade is a magical experience that brings the childhood enjoyment of Christmas back. All cheerleaders and dancers should get to be a part of this event. The National Cheer Association, the National Dance Alliance, and Disney’s Extravaganza is an amazing experience because it is a widely viewed parade, a great accomplishment, and it gives one the opportunity to meet others.
I had just moved to Washington state and I auditioned for the local dance studio’s competition team for fun. I had no idea how talented they were. And I was just an untrained recreational dancer…Not surprisingly, I didn’t earn a coveted spot on the team it the first time I auditioned. That didn’t stop me from training seriously and auditioning for the team each year until I made it. And here I stand, now starting on my sixth year on the team and as one of the last people from my original team who decided not to quit when they started high school. Dance isn’t just twirling around in pretty pink tutus. What the general population doesn’t picture when they think of dance is the tremendous amount of strenuous work and the blood and sweat and tears that goes into every performance and competition. Certain dancers can’t handle it and quit when they realize they don’t have the passion. My passion keeps me living and breathing and most importantly, dancing, when times get
Our coaches had told us since the beginning that the months and months we would spend preparing for one particular day would all be worth it in the end. Taking place at New Castle Fieldhouse in early March 2015, I competed in the IHSDTA Dance team competition with my fellow teammates and members of the NHS dance team. We walked into the vast, expansive Fieldhouse knowing that it was the largest High School Fieldhouse in the Nation. The anticipation in the air was electric and full of excited chatter of girls who had been preparing for months for this one day… actually for these two minutes.
Various painters use their works of art as a representation of feelings. They include symbols, figures, and expression to reveal their emotions through the form of art. Philip Evergood’s painting Dance Marathon illustrates the desperate times surrounding the Great Depression. In the scene, dancers compete for a cash prize as they see who can dance the longest. He portrays the cruelty of the time through this vulgar setting. The painting easily captures the viewer’s attention mostly from the use of color, figure, spatial effects, and other techniques created by the artist.
Dance Marathon is special to me because I feel that every child deserves to have a healthy life. My 2 years in high school the money we raised when to Children's Miracle Network and now here at BW the money goes to pediatric AIDS/ HIV awareness. As an early childhood education, major children hold a special place in my heart. I feel that every child deserves to be healthy and it breaks my heart seeing some of the things that children have to go through today.
I’ve been able to travel to places I’ve never been before, to bond with ladies who share the same passion as me, and of course to grow as a dancer. One of my most memorable dance experience’s was competing in my first national dance competition my sophomore year in high school. I was able to compete with thousands of teams from across the United States and even a few teams from other countries. I love the competition atmosphere and the moments I have to bond with my teammates. There’s nothing that can compare to dancing in front of thousands of people underneath those stage lights. The adrenaline rush I get is indescribable and to know that I’m sharing the dance floor with thirty-four other ladies that have the same goals as me is unbelievable. One of the best moments at the competition was walking away as third runner up overall when we competed against over 200 teams. Another memorable dance experience was when I went to dance camp at Oklahoma State university my senior year. I remember the very first day of camp they ran out of food and we had to order pizza to our dorms. The worst part about this was that we had to be performance ready within an hour and try to eat at the same time. It was extremely frustrating and stressful but at the end we performed and received our bid for nationals in Orlando, Florida. I honestly believe that the most excellent
During freshmen year at Paul Laurence Dunbar high school, I had won my first national competition. It was in Florida and I was on the Dunbar Dance team. We had been practicing for 10 months perfecting our routine and selling desserts and candy to help pay for the competition entry fee.
On Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 8pm, I took a trip to the Public Playhouse located in Cheverly, Maryland to witness the “World Dance Showcase”. The “World Dance Showcase” was comprised of six different dances. However, I decided to focus solely on the dance titled “Night in an English Village Pub” that was performed by Charm City Rapper Sword Dancers. This dance was performed by Sindee Ernst, Miriam Hack, Jack Hemler, Rhonda Keilholtz, Kappy Laning, Megan Philippi, Laura Robertson, Joe Shelby, Alexandra Sjaardo, and Jerry Stein and accompanied by traditional tunes that were played by Cyd Shelby. The movements stemmed from traditional figures by Laura Robertson and clogging steps by Anna Marley. The Charm City Rapper Sword Dancers are stationed in Baltimore, MD but are based on a ritual English dance company. The swords that they employ in their dance were derived from a coal-mining instrument. In total, there were ten performers all of which who were White Americans, mainly woman, and above the age of 40.
Dancing has never been a huge learning experience for me and I never saw the potential influences it would have on my life. Believing that teamwork or leadership meant nothing when it came to dance, Only it could have just been my ignorance as well never actually spending time to develop myself in this art. Until I reached high school where I joined dance class and started to become more
Matt Steffanina, the well-known choreographer, and YouTube sensation is the man you want dancing behind you as he has for artists such as Chris Brown.
This cultural event was exciting and a workout. Everyone was having so much fun while working out. The event consisted of a lot of people that were in horizontal lines and danced the same exact dance. Everyone had to do the dances at the same time for the dance to actually work. It was very neat once everyone caught onto the moves of the dances.
The production process for “The Audition” was unlike any other show I’ve been a part of. The scenes were rehearsed and broken up into sections that were often blocked out of order, and other elements of the show like the dancing and singing, also started out as separate entities from the rest of the show. This came with multiple challenges, but many of them worked themselves out in the end. The dance and choreography was especially exciting for me, because it is something I enjoy and have a talent for. That being said, there were still challenges that came along with it. I had to learn how to teach dance to people who have never set foot inside a dance studio which is no easy task. Luckily, the more
I was listening to this National U pep squad 2014 UAAP Cheer dance Competition. It made me think of how the process of real estate is. The tribal music is like following a specific pattern. The same with real estate, there’s a flow that you have to follow; sometimes it goes crazy scrambled with all information and documents that you have to complete, like this music. But there’s a step by step instruction that you have to follow every step is important, if you miss one process it will not be completed, like the beat. If you miss one component it will not sound good as it does now. But just to do a recap on our lessons, what is real estate? It describes both the physical property and the right attached to it. Do you happen to remember the rights
