Not even just about anti-Semitism, but articles and videos talking about daily international news. A lot of the content on this site are opinions from various authors about events happening around the world. Some of the articles talk about the presidential candidates while others about the widespread hatred of Jews. There is a very wide spread of mostly hateful, opinionated content on this website. Slander and stereotyping are the two main techniques of persuasion that are used. Other Techniques used are anti-Jewish tropes and stereotypes, propaganda and mixing truths with fiction/distortions. Most of the articles use stereotyping to prove their points. In one of the articles talking about Jews lying about their history the author says “Jews lie. Jews have always lied. And most assuredly, Jews are still lying today about everything that has to do with themselves and their sordid history.” This is classifying all the Jews together saying that they all lie, which is an exaggeration and a stereotype. But the author is trying to make his point by stereotyping that all Jews lie because some of them do. Both the techniques of slander and stereotyping are very common in anti-Semitism. Both of these techniques are seen in the film that we watched earlier “The Eternal Jew”. These techniques are still used today and stem from the early beginning of anti-Semitism, including the Bible and early Christian …show more content…
“It seems that Jews have lied about their history in the Old Testament. Overwhelming new evidence by top Egyptian and Israeli scholars shows that Jews were never slaves in Egypt.” The author of this articles suggests the fact the Jews lied about being slaves in Egypt. The claims that he makes is the Old Testament never mentioned the pyramids, the Bible recounts droughts, which Egypt never had, only fluctuations in the flooding of the Nile, slavery was never practiced in Egypt until the Greeks and Persians brought the practice with them a thousand years later than the supposed time of Moses and Joseph and that Egypt was mentioned in the Bible around 700 times; and that the Israelites were not mentioned once in the Egyptian records. The bible story Exodus accounts the Israelites being enslaved by the Egyptians and their escape. Along with the Bible, the novel “Israel in Egypt: The Evidence for the Authenticity of the Exodus Tradition” by James K. Hoffmeier, proves the reliability of the Old Testament from an archaeological stand point. A third false claim that is made suggests that anti-Semitism strengthens the Jews. “Fake anti-Semitism has been used to gain holier-than-thou immunity for Jews. Their power lies in the fact that most people are afraid to even use the word “Jew”. Until we can clear that “fear of the smear”, we will never be able to break
According to the FBI 2015 Hate Crime Statistics, of the 1,402 religious hate crimes, 52.1% of them were committed against Jews. This trend, unfortunately, is not new. Since the beginning of the 21st century, anti-Jewish hate crimes have stayed above 50% of all anti-religious hate crimes, including a report of 75.4% in 2000 (FBI). College campuses, especially liberal ones, are notorious for anti-Semitic activity; they accounted for 10% of the total anti-Semitic incidents in 2015 (“ADL Audit”). That reasons that liberal-leaning colleges are the most anti-Semitic include the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and its involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the. The BDS movement calls for universities and businesses to cut ties with Israel and Israeli companies in order to stop Israeli occupation of Palestine (“What is BDS?”). Because Israel was established in 1948 as a Jewish state, this movement leads to not only anti-Israel sentiment, but also anti-Semitic. Liberal colleges are the hotbed of BDS and anti-Israel demonstrations, with universities in New York and California (traditionally liberal states), making up a great number of the worst colleges for Jewish students to attend (“The 40 Worst Colleges for Jewish Students, 2016”). Another act of anti-Semitism that recently started becoming popular is “echoes”, or the triple parentheses. Members of the
Anti-Semitism has been prevalent throughout the world since the establishment of the Jewish religion and unfortunately, traces of it can still be found to this day in the United States. What exactly is anti-Semitism? It is the intense dislike for and prejudice against the Jews; it can range anywhere from simple opposition to the Jews to vicious hatred displayed through physical torment. Some examples of the more publicized cases of violence against the Jews include the attack of Irish workers and police on the funeral procession of Rabbi Jacob Joseph in New York City in 1902, the lynching of Leo Frank in 1915, the assassination of Alan Berg in 1984, as well as the Crown Heights riots of 1991. I have
Europe’s Growing Anti-Semitism is written by Mike Ross, and was published on October 20, 2014. In this article, Ross explains the disturbing anti-Semitic acts that are taking place in Europe and the effects it is having on Jewish communities. For example, in France three Jewish children and a rabbi were murdered in a Jewish school, four people were shot in a Jewish museum in Brussels, and violent riots have emerged outside numerous synagogues in Europe. Due to these
Anti-Semitism dates back to the conception of Christianity. Because Jesus was Jewish, the steadfastness of the Jews in their beliefs is a stumbling block to Christians. Judaism is the older of the two religions, Christianity stemming from Judaism. Christianity, then, was supposed to be the renewal of the old Jewish ways; thus, the Jewish people are supposed to convert to Christianity. Also, Jesus was
Antisemitism, the hatred for the Jewish people, has been called the longest hatred in history. This history is deep rooted and has existed for thousands of years, taking different forms throughout its existence, and intensifying up until and through the Holocaust, to then diminish to an extent but still be prevalent in most societies. Antisemitism exists in different forms, religious, ethnic, and political. The presence of Christianity as the predominant religion in Europe can be noted as a driving factor in religious and ethnic antisemitism, as can the Holocaust. Whereas instances such as the Islamic view on Judaism can be
One way that Anti semitism can start is through anti-Semitism. As seen from this ADL.,Anti-Defamation League: Anti-Kushner tweets were anti-Semitic. The article speech is threatened on Twitter. This is not something that the ADL is encouraging. They are trying to fight against it.
In the documentary “America and the Holocaust”, the view learns that anti-Semitism was prevalent in America. Many are unaware that
3. The Lord threatens the Egyptian people that he will smite or whip there fist-born child until they are dead unless they free the Israelites. The Israelites represent the hebrew slaves.
Anti-Semitism is the discrimination against Jewish people as individuals and as a group. (A Brief History of Anti-Semitism) People may think that anti-Semitism began with Adolf Hitler but they are mistaken. There is so much evidence of anti-Semitism as far back as the ancient world. (History.com, n.d.) There are three examples of anti-Semitism in Europe prior to World War One that I will discuss.
Throughout history, hatred has been a widespread thought which has caused widespread death, chaos, and war. One huge and important example would be the Holocaust. This idea that Jewish
In our society, there are a handful of people who believe that anti-Semitism is a matter of the past, and do not realize that it still exists today. Countless of Jews face it more than once in their lifetime, whether it may be an
The intended audience for this article was towards readers who don’t recognize what is actually happening with the Jews and Anti-Semitism, and what could occur from it. This forms a teacher/student relationship between the author and her readers because she is teaching them from her own experience, and what she knows about the Holocaust and Jewish mistreatment. I will use this article to answer my GRQ because I believe it provides me with clear and concise evidence, and connects the treatment of Jews in modern day to the time of World War 2 efficiently. This article specifically relates to my GRQ by providing me with an evident answer for my question on how the treatment of Jews has evolved since World War 2. The author does this by saying “The horror of the Holocaust cleansed our society of anti-Semitism at the official level but the simmering resentment of a group that is different, that maintains its identity, that has been pilloried throughout history by religious and political leaders, remains” (Rebrik
Throughout the history of the world, the Jewish people have been persecuted and oppressed because of their religious beliefs and faith. Many groups of people have made Jews their scapegoat. Jews have suffered from years of intolerance because people have not understood what the religion really means. They do not understand where and why the religion began, nor the customs of it's people. For one to understand the great hardships, triumphs, and history of the Jewish people one must open-mindedly peruse a greater knowledge of the Jewish people and faith.
Christianity is the most prevalent religion in the United States. Many people belong to this religion. However, what happens when you don’t belong to Christianity. One of the most ancient religions that still are very much provident is the Jewish Religion. However, this religion isn’t a respected religion even after the time of Holocaust. Even today Jews continue to be the victims of many hate crimes. Donald Altschiller book, Hate Crimes: a Reference Handbook, states that, “anti-Semitism has had a pernicious history throughout the ages and around the world” (6). Anti-Jewish hatred and violence has always been one of the highest of hate crimes and Altschiller reinforces this by commenting that “the majority of attacks upon individuals or institutions because of their religion—averaging 85 percent have been targeted at Jewish Americans” (16). You would think that after the Holocaust the Jewish people would get some remorse and peace and yet these people are still victims and to make maters worse one of the highest statistics for hate crimes. Jewish religion has suffered so much pain and chaos even after the Holocaust that they need to have some peace because these people endeavor so many assaults. For example, in
Anti-Semitic means discrimination toward Jews just because they are Jewish. Hostility towards Jews dates back to ancient times; from the days of the bible to ancient times ,Jewish people have been criticized and pushed just because they have a different religion and did not fit in with everyone else. The rise of Christianity greatly increased the hatred towards Jews. Instead of just considered outsiders Jews were now seen as people who rejected Jesus and crucified him. By the middle ages Jew were considered to be barely human and they were called Christ killers. Jewish people were forced to live in the ghettos, they were accused of poisoning the wells and rivers in times of major disease epidemics. In the 19th century thing started to get a little easier for Jewish people as there was a decline in Christianity and a rise in the Jewish belief. But later on in World War two they became Germany's justification seeking to kill every Jew. between 1939 and 1945
