On the night of July 20th, 2012 the term tragedy was rewritten as the largest mass shooting in United States history took place in a movie theater located in Aurora, Colorado. What is now known as “The Batman Massacre” resulted in twelve casualties, fifty eight injuries, grief ridden family members, and left the rest of the United States searching for answers. This horrific scene will be replayed in the minds of the survivors for life and will be one of grave devastation to the family members directly involved. Holmes, killed twelve people and injured dozens more in the shooting in a packed movie theater in Aurora. Authorities said Holmes was dressed in full body armor and used a form of tear gas on the crowd before opening fire with multiple guns. In addition, the most recent shooting occurred on May 2014 in Isla Vista near the University of Santa Barbara. This shooting resulted in seven deaths, thirteen wounded, and the murderer himself a gunshot wound to his head. The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport shooting happened on January 6, 2017, where Esteban Santiago, United States veteran, bought a one-way ticket from Alaska to Florida, with a firearm and two magazines, as reported by CNBC. According to USA Today, he retrieved his luggage, loaded the weapon in a bathroom, and opened fire. Five individuals lost their lives and six were wounded in the process. Bryan Santiago, the shooter’s brother, claimed that Esteban “was behaving differently when he returned from Iraq” and “sometimes couldn't control his anger.” Esteban Santiago was previously admitted to a psychiatric institute after claiming he heard voices

A massive shooting happened in Las Vegas at a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. The shooter fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. 58 people were killed and over 500 people were injured. Witnesses said that it lasted around 15 minutes. The suspect was a 64 year old man named Stephen Paddock, who he is now dead according to authorities. After the first shots, many people got into their cars to pick up others to save them and give them cover. Some people got on top of others to save them and take a bullet for them. Others pushed civilians to the side and saved them from getting shot.

One could see this act not of a one-man but more like a two-man job, with the other man getting away and is yet to be identified.

Some of the deadliest and most well heard of shootings in America would be the San Bernardino, CA shooting (2015), the Sandy Hook school shooting (2012), and the Orlando, FL shooting (2016) which injured or killed over one hundred people. These attacks are taking place everywhere, disability centers, schools, and your everyday social events. This puts everyone at risk of the potential for a mass shooting.

Many believe this was a form of domestic terrorist. There hasn’t been a conclusive motive why he did what he did. He was wealthy, he liked to gamble and drink. There isn’t a valid excuse for him committing this violent act. Many still wonder and question what was the reason especially all those families that were affected by his actions. The Washington Post stated “We do not still have a clear motive or reason,” Kevin C. McMahill, undersheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
