Upon a first glance at the Latin pop Wikipedia page, it was apparent that it required further information then the current present three paragraphs it contained. Reading the entry left me as a reader with more questions than answers. Researching the genre of Latin pop broadly and as well as closely, it was evident that the entry required necessary improvements by providing additional material concerning and supporting the leading section, the history as well as the influences and section of development. The entry needed a further explanation of the true aspect of the genre of Latin pop that goes beyond the fairly recent information easily found on a five second internet search. Even if their contributions are important to the genre as a whole, they belong in a different a section of the entry then in the history section. It was also important to mention the exact moment of transition of when Latin pop started to change into what the world knows today. It was in the 1970’s in which the four beats per measure was introduced to Latin pop and it lost a sufficient amount of connection to the bolero style music. It was also then when Latin pop began to involve the fusion of diverse influences in which we can relate up to today’s current date in the music …show more content…

Until about 20 years ago the Latin genre of music known as bachata was undesirable in its country of origin. Bachata is known as guitar music that originated in the Dominican Republic during the 1920s around the time when dictator, Rafael Trujillo, took over. The Dominican Republic is right next to Haiti and close neighbors with Cuba. The capital is Santo Domingo and also the largest city in the country. Like many other styles of Latin music bachata came from the poorest social class in the country, it was considered too rude, vulgar, and musically rustic, and was not accepted by the wealthy people in the country. It wasn’t 1961 until after Trujillo’s death that the artists were able to go to the capital and record their music because Trujillo’s family had monopolized music in the country when he was still alive.
Moreno asserts that ““Too many times, we have read our history books that have been written by Europeans, and it has had a tremendous impact in the way we view our culture and listen to our music. I do think that our identity is lost with it and at some point, we try to find it again later in life” (7). Students are able to see a different point of view rather than only the perspectives of textbook writers who at times deprive students from the full truth and the media who exaggerates or embellishes the truth. Many artists and musicians express their anger and oppression through music and students are able to listen to this and get the complete synopsis of problems happening in the world. For instance, in “The Embodiment of Salsa: Musicians, Instrument and the Performance of a Latina Style and Identity,” Patria Roman-Velasquez argued that the embodiment of salsa develops through specific practices whereby instruments, performance techniques, vocal sounds, bodily movements and ways of dressing are encoded and experienced as part of a particular Latin identity. Therefore, this expressing that music has much of an influence in Latin identity and the construction of identity and

Cuban music was changed dramatically over the years; Its humble beginnings began with sheet music to piano rolls in Havana, a stylistic change was coming. Although different genres such as criolla, cancion and danzon were considered very much the epitome of Cuban expression. The new movement of Afrocubanismo influenced everything from music, poetry and paintings. At first they were very much influenced by Western Europe art songs and classically trained singers. The working class and others like the black guajiros were absent. Throughout the history of Cuba much is discussed about the true heritage music of this great country and discard Afro Cuban music because it was considered black music. One of the Roman Empire’s greatest accomplishments was the development and practical use of the aqueduct. An aqueduct is a man-made structure built to transport water from a water source to distant locations. These structures were typically a channel or pipe, which would allow the water to flow through it. A few of the most recognizable constructed aqueducts that the Romans built were the tunnels underneath the ground and the arcades, which ran above ground and across troublesome landscape features. The most common use for aqueducts or aqueduct-like structures was to irrigate farmland that did not have a direct source of water. The Romans designed aqueducts that would transport water into their cities, and, “With the water, they could
