Going to explore the topic of women's gender roles in today's television drama shows, focusing more on how they are becoming less and less traditional male heroines to this more of women heroines through this exploration. With regards to this I'm going to take a look at the television show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999-) but I decided to take a deeper look at the shows underline message. To investigate this argument by the show’s creators and the purpose of the show with this in mind, I’m try and conduct analysis of the series as whole,, omitting episodes that did not deal directly with violence against women. It primarily focuses mainly on this team of heroic detectives, two women detectives and 3 male detectives who solve sexually motivated crimes and child abuse cases with Manhattan, New York area. Realism on television can impact our perceptions of reality. Law and Order: SVU has over 14 million Viewers in the United States alone each week, making it a leading source of information on violence against women. With their catchy slogan during the opening credits of the show that goes like this “In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. This show goes against this idea that was as quoted by James Clapp “femme fatale is often seen hanging around, a cocktail lounge, maybe married to someone poor...” (229). et the women in show are working in your typical police station working at a desk solving cases. When did my analysis of the women of the show you can the main female characters such as Detective Benson, Rollins, and the A.D.A Neal and etc come across as charisma in their overall appearance you can tell that these women take particular heed to what they wear in each episode than the average typical women. To put in another way from James Clapp “the city women conveys the general ambiguity of the relationship between women and cities, perhaps a certain sophistication,independence and self possessed worldliness that her country sisters lack.”
