Poetry has become a symbol of how we express our feelings towards something, Poetry has been used in many cultures and day to day life, whether it's used to express what you feel towards something or to express the beauty of a culture. Poetry connects many people whether you're young or old, poor or rich. Poetry will connect people. Poetry is also a way that a poet expresses itself through words whether it's by rhyming words or by just going with the flow. Likewise a poet named Leslie Marmon Silko uses poetry to describe Native Americans. Leslie Marmon Silko will take us through the rich history of Native Americans and their culture. Therefore we will take a look into Leslie Marmon Silko’s life, analysis two of her poems, and also look into
The language this author has chosen is quite negative, for example, they use these four lines “Will my tribe forget the tradition? Our totem and our songs? Will my land be taken away from us? For development grazing rights?” These lines, even if read on their own, leave a negative impact on you. The thought of losing your land for grazing rights is horrible, this poem is discussing the many things that can and are happening when people forget their tradition. There whole culture takes a punch from it and this is what the author is trying to
Poetry is considered to be a representational text in which one explores ideas by using symbols. Poetry can be interpreted many different ways and is even harder to interpret when the original author has come and gone. Poetry is an incredible form of literature because the way it has the ability to use the reader as part of its own power. In other words, poetry uses the feelings and past experiences of the reader to interpret things differently from one to another, sometimes not even by choice of the author. Two famous poets come to mind to anybody who has ever been in an English class, Robert Frost and E.E. Cummings. Both of these poets have had numerous famous pieces due to the fact that they both
We have produced marvelous pieces of art, dynamic architecture, discovered intelligent theories and ideas, even created significant clothing, jewelry and a multitude of other things. We possess a vast amount of talent that ranges from singers, dancers, writers, entertainers, musicians, poets, actors and actresses. One of my favorite pastimes is poetry. But in order to understand my passion for poetry we must first understand the origins of poetry, and learn about some of the notable African American poets of the past who have paved the way. There are many great African American artists that were very talented poets. Artists such as Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and Gwendolyn Bennett are just a few African Americans who had a momentous influence on writing and poetry in our culture.
Poetry is about the emotions or feeling of a person. Poetry always follows a rhythm to keep the poem organized. The words used in poetry are always specific whether they are good or bad words. People may decide to write poetry because they can freely choose their own words without caring about the reader’s reaction. Although, Poetry is mostly interesting to read, it can sometimes end up being a shock to the readers.
Poetry has the power to teach people new things and change their perspectives on life. When authors realize the power of their poetry it is a revolutionary thing because they are then able to teach people through their poetry. In many poems the reader is able to get a sense of the culture that the author grew up in. This teaches people a lot about the past and about what people in the past had to face. When America was young nation slavery was a common thing. People were brought over from Africa and forced to do labor on plantations in the south. There was a whole population of people in the United States that was mistreated and honestly did not belong anywhere. They were not considered citizens of the U.S. and this created a huge problem
Poetry has a role in society, not only to serve as part of the aesthetics or of the arts. It also gives us a view of what the society is in the context of when it was written and what the author is trying to express through words. The words as a tool in poetry may seem ordinary when used in ordinary circumstance. Yet, these words can hold more emotion and thought, however brief it was presented.
Poetry is much more than just a piece of literature: it is a form of art. Similarly, it can save the world the same way art can, since the magic of poetry consists of many benefits. One of the major advantages of poetry is that one’s emotions and vulnerability is expressed in a beautiful way. All it takes is interest and to not have interest in poetry is
In the trees cause its the dark green leaves and the moss that hangs from them...So you ask; how does poetry contribute to our understanding of self, others, and the world? How can I use poetry to share perspectives from my peers and community? And how do relationships with people, communities and institutions impact individuals’ lives? Well poetry contributes to our understanding of self, others, and the world because, everyone deciphers poems differently and if you understand why the poet is writing the poem and the point of view the speaker it telling the poem you will then get a better understanding of yourself, others and the world. You can use poetry to share perspectives from your peers and your community by putting in the idea that you want and building off of that idea, say it's ¨sad¨ then you would put something to the point of, ¨In the Dark of night, She sat in a hew rot, The roses were painted with a dark red that dripped into a dark puddle of gold, For she could not take what he had to
Poems are just another way to voice the opinions that the authors have. You will find poems that have point of view of soldiers from both side describing events that happened on the battlefield or you have poems that voice the hurt that the union felt when the south secced. You also find poems that talk of loss and sorrow
POETRY Poetry is a verbal or written expression that radiates from thoughts and emotions that dwell within the heart and mind of a poet. CHANGE STARTS WITH YOU IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE If you want to make a difference in the world you must engage in positive actions, assist others, and display love and compassion towards others. Only then will change generate within you.
Poetry in my opinion is best defined as artistic work that was created to express the thoughts or feelings of a person or poet. Expressing thoughts or feelings through poetry can be used by rhythmic patterns or a type or distinctive style. However, poetry does not always have to rhyme or have a rhythmic pattern. Poetry could just be a list of jotted down words that came off the top of the person’s head.
Poetry is an art style that is used to tell a story about something important about oneself, or something going on in the world. It changes as the world changes, because at one point poetry mainly consisted of poems with a story that had a deeper meaning. Then as time changed poetry took on many new forms, such as hip hop and rap. Poetry, whether it be rap or poems seemed to have a big boost during times of prejudice and racism. Two big poets known as Kendrick Lamar and Maya Angelou during their times have been very successful in bringing light to these situations with their poetry.
Poetry is the expression of emotion and ideas through the use of words. “Ars Poetica #100: I Believe” by Elizabeth Alexander and “Poetry” by Marianne Moore are two poems that illustrate how each author feels about poetry. They both express what it is about poetry that should be valued. Although poetry can be misunderstanding, it exemplifies much purpose. There are many different ways the two authors show how poetry is purposeful.
Poetry is a varied art form. Poetry is expression with words, using aesthetics and definition. Word choice in poetry is the single most important thing. Devices such as assonance, alliteration and rhythm work in a poem to convey a certain image or to facilitate understanding. Similes and metaphors can take two unlike objects, such as a potato and cinderblock, and if done the correct way use them to describe how Abraham Lincoln dealt with scoundrels. Poetry is beautiful. One of the best genres in poetry, let alone a great literary movement is Romanticism or the post-enlightenment Romantics.
Why does poetry have the ability to fully portray a culture? Poetry have the ability to ‘display’ a culture due to the fact that a poet who writes poems about a certain culture ‘usually’ had either encountered the culture themselves or practice the culture and the customs in their daily life. This statement is similar to what Ava McCall said in her articles “Using Poetry in Social Studies Classes to Teach about Cultural Diversity and Social Justice”, that poets often write poems according to
