Professor Crawford is a assertive human. He does not like to be corrected. The first time Jamal turned in an essay Professor Crawford doubted that he wrote it by himself. Crawford doubted Jamal because he was African American. Jamal is an extremely talented writer and Crawford knows, but he refuses to accept the fact and continues to bring Jamal down. Crawford wanted to see if Jamal can come up with his own words so he made Jamal write an essay with his supervision.

Natalie Sterling, a seventeen year old senior at Ross Academy had just won class president and beat her opponent Mike Domski. Mike was the kind of guy that Natalie and her best friend Autumn tried to stay away from. I nominate Maritza Norman for the Mission Award because Maritza is a valued employee that always goes above and beyond in all aspects of her work. Whether it be doing things on her own, communicating with her co-workers and/or clients she makes it a point to overcome obstacles in her path to ensure that a solution is given to help them achieve their own goals. She is a devoted worker that aims to achieve perfection on a daily basis and will admit to her own faults to allow her room to exceed and overcome her own obstacles and be able to provide a better service for herself, her co-workers and the clients that she serves. Maritza shows that she is devoted to the Mission of Catholic Charities in the way that she makes herself readily available

Jimmy knows too well the agonies of abandonment. First, when his mother, Cecilia, ran away with Richard to pursue a better lifestyle. Then, due to his father’s, Damacio Baca, alcoholisms and violent behavior; he also had to leave Jimmy behind. In spite of the drawbacks from abandonment to being a maximum security prisoner in Arizona State Prison, Jimmy preserver’s the darkness of prison by overcoming his illiteracy. However Cecilia and Damacio is not as fortunate as their child; Cecilia is shot by Richard after confronting him for a divorce and Damacio chokes to death after he is released from the detox center(Baca 263). Therefore the most significant event in this section of the memoir, A Place to Stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca is the death of Jimmy’s parents.

In the San Fernando Valley during the summer of 1962, Scotty Smalls is the new boy in the neighborhood seeking desperately to fit in. He would be welcomed on the local sandlot baseball team that practices every day which only has eight players. Smalls however can't play baseball on his first visit to the sandlot he finds himself in the outfield with a fly ball descending toward him which bounces off his glove causing the other boys except “Benny the jet” Rodriguez the team's leader to burst out laughing Smalls is humiliated and leaves. Rivalry can be playful and good natured, but it isn’t always this way. Rivalry and competition can help individuals grow as a person, and help them to develop into mature adults. Competition can be a motivator to do better. It can also lead to vast destruction, and severed friendships. Rivalry in this case is unhealthy, the overall outcome of the story proves this. Finny and Gene didn’t really have a ‘healthy’ rivalry or competition. Their relationship wasn’t healthy, and it eventually leads to the death of Finny. In “A Separate Piece” by John Knowles the rivalry between two friends turns unhealthy very quickly. The competition and rivalry between the two friends is destructive, it destroys their friendship,

This realistic fiction novel, by Edward Bloor, describes the problems and relationships that Paul discovers when unlocking the meaning of truth, no matter the obstacles people put up to block him from it. The motif of “sight”, is what introduces Paul to the universal statement of truth and makes him aware of what the people surrounding him can and cannot “see”. Paul Fisher, the main character, uses the motif of sight to have a new understanding of his friends, family, and himself.

The short story Recitatif is about two different girls placed in a place in an orphanage. Their mothers unable to provide care. Twyla and Roberta, mothers’ reasons for their placement in St. Bonny orphanage was different, Twyla was neglected, and Roberta’s mother was ill. Despite the girls seemingly different up bring, they share a common bond, that racial divides cannot break. Morrison uses of symbolism in the short story “Recitatif” to convey Emulate the main character.

The Holocaust itself is a sort of compass, where if things are going bad, people begin to reference it. It’s become an unofficial reference point for the public for the gravity of racial situations, and situations of that nature. In Robert Nye’s book, Unferth is portrayed as an antagonist, a character in a story that is an enemy to the protagonist, because he gets excited about Grendel’s massacres and tries to ruin Beowulf’s reputation and status by lying about him. According to Robert Nye’s book, Unferth says “Aloud, he praised King Hrothgar’s courage. Silently, he drank a toast to the demon Grendel.(pg.13)” This shows that Unferth celebrates Grendel and his killing. Unferth also says “You tried to drown your friend because he was a better swimmer than you!(pg30)”. This shows Unferth is supporting the demon Grendel instead of the hero Beowulf.

When you think of a good life you definitely don’t think of Max Vandenburg. Max was a good Jewish man, he was just on a rough path. In his time staying with the Hubermanns, Max did change into a new person.

Noah Meyer is a very interesting person as a whole. He is about 5”9 with brown hair and brown eyes. He lives in Elkhorn, Nebraska which is a very small town in Nebraska. The population of Elkhorn is about 2,000 people. Elkhorn is surrounded by corn fields and livestock. Noah has very long arms similar to a monkey. Noah altogether is a very attractive person and is very good with the ladies.

Our actions and interactions with others and society are what define us. Society’s perception of an individual may contrast with that individual’s perception of self. Our actions and interactions with others create certain stigmas which may not change despite progression and change an individual has undergone. But however at the end of the day we are our own creators and we chose who we interact with.
