Abortion is the murderous slaughtering of an unborn child. Around one million abortion procedures occur every year; as a result, roughly one million innocent babies die every year. Those poor human beings never had a chance to walk for the first time, start preschool, graduate, or start a family; they were killed. Children are being murdered every single day, yet nobody stops this harsh act from happening. Abortion should be made illegal because it’s practically murder, opposes God’s word, and goes against the “unalienable rights to life” recognized by the Founding Fathers. Abortion is fundamentally murder. The killing of any innocent human being is wrong, accidentally or intentionally. The penalty for murder is five to ninety-nine years in prison (depending on the case), with a possibility for parole after thirty years. Only five years in the Jailhouse would feel like a lifetime! America is an immensely patriotic country. Citizens are proud of where they live, and they always stand up for what they believe in. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are two of America’s most salient documents; they shaped and formed our country, and are referred to on a daily basis. The Declaration of Independence states that “[A]ll men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Abortion opposes this idea. Abortion is a terrible legal thing citizens are aloud to do in America. It is murder to unborn babies who haven't even had a chance to live. It also offends God's creation. Every pregnancy on Earth isn't a mistake, they're is a purpose for every life on Earth and God doesn't want us to destroy them. I don't understand why America is letting people kill their unborn babies, it is a sickening thing to think about. After reading the article, “Why It’s Become So Hard to Get an Abortion”, by Margaret Talbot, I am caught in the middle of pro-choice and pro-life. Talbot provides the reader with an even amount of examples explaining the beliefs of each stance. Being raised as a Catholic, my church has always preached to bring an end to abortion. Although, being a young female, I also feel we should have the choice. I think there is a way to respect personal beliefs and religion, while still being in charge of your body. This being said, I don’t agree with the act of taking the life of an innocent human without it being a medical necessity. One of the most divisive issues in the country, and the world, today is abortion. Many people believe that women should have unrestricted access to abortions, but others think that it should either be outlawed or that there should be more restrictions put in place. There are many issues with the latter argument, such as it violates human rights, and it creates an ethical dilemma. That being said, there should be less stringent laws in place, in regards to women's access to abortion.
The article reviews that some Jews are pro-choice, it is fully permitted under a number of circumstances to have an abortion. The Torah explains that “the human being is created in God’s image”, meaning even before conception occurs. Jews protect a women’s right to have an abortion only in certain situations, abortion is allowed if the fetus would mean harming the mother or in case of rape. In some cases abortions are just done without a cause. As a social worker we are thought to provide services despite what we may or may not believe. If you are a pro-life life activist, you’re against abortion. This ongoing debate of abortion has become the phenomenon of all debates today. Since Roe v. Wade 1973, this topic continued to spur divisive conversations, attacks on the abortion clinic, and unfair judgment of women. However, these arguments have progressed into the state laws that use the government health department to expand law enforcement and regulation activities around abortion (Roberts, Fuentes, Berglas, Dennis, 2017). Recently, in the past few years, some states have passed laws, namely Virginia, that forces women to take a medical procedure against their will (Slaughter, 2013). Conversely, since the highlighting of this debate, my allegiance has always been of the support of a woman’s choice and rights, in addition, a woman’s right to control her reproductive process or her body for that matter is not only her right but a human civil right not to be denied by the state (Siegel, 2014). Furthermore, the state government desires to put their thumb on women rights, labeling women as wanting an abortion for an irresponsible reason but just having access to abortion for not to give a reason or seek permission from a panel of doctors (Siegel, 2014).
I am an Evansville native writing on behalf of women in the state of Indiana who will be disproportionately affected by State Representative Curt Nisly’s proposed “Protection at Conception” bill which he intends to bring to the January 2017 General Assembly. I want to acknowledge that I have respect for those who identify as pro-life, as someone who formerly fought to protect the unborn from abortion, it is a set of ideals that I am very familiar with. That being said, I am writing to implore you to take a fervent stand against this complete abortion ban that Representative Nisly is hoping will pass in Indiana.
Although, currently legalized, abortion continues to be a burdening ethical issue in America. From 1973 to 2011 approximately "53 million legal abortions were performed in the United States” (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Pro-Choice supporters hail an abortion is a woman’s choice and a protected personal right "that should not be limited by governmental or religious authority” (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). However, Pro-Life supporters contend that a human life begins at the very moment of conception and thus an "abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being” (Procon.org, 2015, p.1). Thus, there are various arguments to be considered on both sides.
Pro-life people are all the way for life with no exceptions. Unless the woman was raped, victim of incest and if the woman’s life was at risk. However, some pro-life also feel that just because the woman was rape and victim of incest it still does not morally justify abortion. They’re the ones who thinks about the constitutional rights for the viable fetus. It is not right to kill an innocent human being, who should have a birthday instead of a death day. Many people likes to think about the mother and only her rights but what about the child his or her rights, if we don’t fight for them who will? “We can accept that the embryo is a living thing in the fact that it has a beating heart, that it has its own genetic system within it” (Furedi).
In the United States on average, the Center of Disease Control or the CDC, state that an average of 652 hundred thousand abortions are done with legal medical methods in the United States every year, but that's not including the abortions that are not reported and are not done by legal medical methods within the United States. For most people, most would agree that this statistic is an outstanding number, especially to the regards of abortion. And it is statistics like these that would fuel and stir conversations on the subject on whether or not abortions within the United States should be legal and if it is really necessary for women and create very serious arguments and validations from both sides of the spectrum. Abortion has been the most debatable subject of controversy in the United States for a long time. Abortion was legalized in 1973 by the Supreme Court of United States. People who support abortion consider it as pre-choice. Woman has the rights to make decisions that involve her body. On the contrary, people who against abortion consider it as cruel as murder. Abortion is a method that should not be confined by government or religious jurisdiction as it provides a safe means of closure for pregnant women. Taking away one’s right to an abortion creates various unsafe situations, such as pregnant women resorting to illegal or dangerous abortions that may be life threatening (NARAL Pro-Choice America). With the ever growing decrease in the number of abortion clinics in the United States, the number of violent attacks against abortion providers has significantly grown. This is no coincidence, showing that action must be taken in order to fix this ever-growing issue (ProCon.org).
