Dear Ladies of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated: I am seeking membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated because I want to grow and contribute my time and talent to an illustrious, originating organization. I aspire to be a part of a sisterhood where I can express myself, and have my skills nourished by prospering African –American women. This summer I was involved in a traumatic car accident and survived, tragically two of my dearest friends did not. On the car third spin I squeezed my eyes shut, and braced myself for a collision. Suddenly, the car jolted forward and flipped. At that very moment I realized that I am here for a greater purpose, and vowed to take the necessary steps to fulfill that purpose. God is not finished with me yet, and I do not want to sit on my Lord. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
Being women of Alpha Xi Delta is a great honor due to everything this chapter has and is accomplishing here at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Alpha Xi Delta is constantly learning, growing, involving and leading throughout our community. As a chapter we are consistently receiving national recognition, creating a well-rounded sisterhood, and guiding our women to become successful in and outside of school. Our Alpha Xi Delta chapter is known for the outstanding amount of money we are able to raise through our philanthropy, Autism Speaks. Each year we set our goal higher than the year before, for our annual Step It Up 5K walk. With great efforts, we always find a way to accomplish this goal by raising a huge chunk of money. As a chapter,
When I think of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and what the purpose of the sorority is, I think of “Giving back to community” heling others who are in need, as well as using avenues provided within the Sorority, to help young ladies excel not only in the community, but in their career goals, while developing long lasting friendships.
Emma, a senior at a southeastern university, was recorded having sex with a brother who passed the video around to the other brothers at his house (Robbins and Florsheim 146). After that event, Emma’s sorority sisters turned their backs on her (Robbins and Florsheim 146). Sororities lure freshmen in to give them a home base lifestyle and sense of belonging (Robbins and Florsheim 146). Many chapters are supposed to teach leadership skills and encourage community service, but some chapters become out of hand when dealing with initiating people (Robbins and Florsheim 146). Becky, a junior in a North Carolina sorority, admits, “It is the system of everyone having to keep up this image that they are the best, the prettiest, the most fun” (qtd.
It is a great honor to receive invitation to apply for membership to the Alpha Theta Kappa. My leadership skills as a gospel singer, interpreter and, treasurer, got developed while serving at my home church in Pakistan. However, it was after coming to Garrett-Evangelical, that I became aware of social justice and what that implies in different settings. During my internship as a Master of Divinity student, I became a bridge between persons from diverse backgrounds. I consider it a blessing to be positioned in the hub of cultures where people from various ethnic, religious, cultural, linguistic, economic and racial backgrounds study at Northwestern University and Garrett-Evangelical. Since I have developed
In my opinion, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is a sisterhood dedicated in giving back to the community like myself. I believe Alpha Kappa Alpha pride themselves on being of service to others through fundraising, blood drives, back to school functions, and through peer mentoring. I think that the mission and goal of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is the same as my club on campus, Very Involved Peers (VIP). VIP Pride themselves on increasing graduation rates with community service hours, promoting public awareness, and increasing student involvement with events on campus and in the community. As stated, in my opinion AKA Sorority exemplifies the same missions and goals that I am seeking to fulfill.
Being in a sorority is very rewarding yet can be very time consuming. Each member that is part of a sorority has a huge role to play even if you do not hold a position within the organization. Alpha Sigma Alpha is a national sorority who is heavily involved with community service and their three national philanthropies, St. June Smith, Special Olympics, and Girls on the Run, as well as local philanthropy year after year. This source is located on Alpha Sigma Alpha’s national website that is dedicated towards the sorority’s service and giving. In this section their philanthropic statement states, “Life is not taking in only; it is giving out too. It is giving ourselves - freely - to other people, giving ourselves in comradeship, in understanding,
Pursuing the dream of obtaining membership into the First Intercollegiate Greek Fraternity for African Americans, Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. is one of very few ultimate goals in my life. An organization that was founded to stimulate the ambitions of its members and prepare them for great usefulness within the community has since become one of the most well respected organizations in America. Over one hundred years later, the pivotal movement in 1906 has spread to over the entire country in different collegiate chapters and cities across America and the impact has been tremendous. To some individuals, I was considered very lucky to be reared in the upbringing I experienced. But in my eyes it was a double edged sword.
The Sorority's success is based on the depth of commitment, vision and confidence of its members. What makes AKA stand out from the rest of the organizations of the divine nine- or even organizations in general, graduate membership is by invitation only and is not solicited through our graduate chapters. Their graduate chapters host public events, such as forums, cultural presentations and social activities, so that prospective candidates can become acquainted with chapter members and learn about service activities they offer to local
Kappa Kappa Gamma extends to you a warm welcome as a new member of the Fraternity. You have joined an organization of women that has provided friendship and mutual support to hundreds of thousands of women throughout the world since our founding in 1870. Our members consistently raise the bar – pursuing excellence not only in their own life, but in the classroom, the boardroom
Target Audience In this memo, I will discuss the stereotypes of sorority girls do to the public and media. Also, I will discuss what sorority girls believe in and what they do in their chapters. I created a Sororities Life PSA to target market girls who are afraid of joining a sorority because of false accusations they hear and see about Greek life. I chose this PSA because I was one of those girls who were afraid of joining a sorority because of all the negative effects it had.
The political cartoon and the magazine article both have a pessimistic view of Greek life that strives to uncover truths about sororities but their intentions and audiences slightly differ. Both author’s intended audience are college students. The website, Her Campus, is intended for women in college and often aims to answer their concerns and provide advice. The article is designed to inform the reader of the negatives associated with Greek life, providing them with information if they are considering going through recruitment. While it does point out the flaws of the greek system, at the end the author does acknowledge the idea that a sorority can be a “great community within your school” and that sometime the secrets are what make each chapter unique. Since the author admits this after she spells out the secret of sororities, it shows that she is not abhorring on them but rather trying to
Initially, a sorority can be broken down into its classical views and romantic views, but it does contain more romantic. A sorority is an organization, and with any organization you must form a foundation with rules, which is apart of the classic views. “The classic mode, by contrast, proceeds by reason and by laws---which are themselves underlying forms of thought and behavior.” (ZMM, 85-86). This foundation that they create will help an organization establish everything they want to achieve. For Alpha Chi Omega our foundation starts with our bylaws. Our bylaws contain all the rules that our members must follow in order to stay in good standing with the organization. If
I believe that I posses the level of ethical standards and integrity and dedication to sisterhood and love for service, required to uphold the reputation of Alpha Kappa Alpha. These characteristics are expressed in my actions and the strives I make to and improve my character daily through what I call “small victories”: small things that can be done to better myself and others daily. These are achieved through academic integrity and doing my part, to volunteer, mentor and help people any time presented the opportunity. My dedication to sisterhood in my opinion is rarely matched and is one I have been nurturing for years, starting as a Girl Scout, continuing to Girls In The Game program and most recently apart of a Sisters Inc, a mentoring/leadership program that I’ve had the pleasure to be involved with in for over six years and have been involved with on numerous levels; mentee, mentor, ambassador and alumni commitee. I’ve been afforded the opportunity to make life long friends, mentor girls, build self esteem and develop in my journey to being an all around model citizen. All of these programs not only showed me the importance of sisterhood but also scholarship and service, showing me that a real sister are those that will help you and will except your help back. A real sister is one who you never have to sacrifice your love of service you’re your dedication to scholarship for and lastly love you like blood. Lastly I believe that my love of service is characteristic I believe that I can use to maintain the status of Alpha Kappa Alpha, from a young age my grandmother would preach to me “do unto others…”. From a young I knew it was my responsibility to assist someone in need any chance I am given. And have carried this belief to every organization I have joined for the Girl Scouts of America to my recent membership into the Student Activity
My name is Latifah Syeh and it is my aspiration to become a member of the alpha chi chapter of alpha kappa alpha sorority, inc. In my eyes, the purpose of alpha kappa alpha is to promote social change, equality, and personal growth through scholarship and leadership. These are all things that I want my legacy to be defined by. I am aspiring to join this sorority specifically because I want to walk in the path of those that I admire. I admire alpha women.
July 12th, 2005 is a day that holds a special imprint on our lives, Sigma Rho Phi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated was established. Our sorority was established on the campus of City College of New York- CUNY. Seven amazing young women have allowed each one of us to take apart of a journey of sisterhood and lifetime friendships. The seven women who formed Sigma Rho Phi, were Crystal Beckford, Cassandra Holly, Daniela Costarelo, Katryna Rene, Angelina Miller, Maria Hassen, and Emily Ferrari. These seven women are known as the founding mothers of Sigma Rho Phi. The founding mothers created this sorority to focus on the pursuit of self-confidence and the achievement of academic and lifelong success in the female community.
