Beta Club provides students opportunities to serve their local and global communities through the donation of time, objects, and money. The planning for my personal service project began my first year in the club and has continued through this academic school year. Many of the projects in my school’s chapter of Beta Club serve the local community only and have no global impact. I began to search for organizations which work to benefit those in need across the globe and found Kiva. Individuals in every country can request loan amounts which are funded through micro loans by multiple donors. Loan requests range from agriculture and education to retail and food.
National Junior Honor Society is a great opportunity for me, and I am very honored to be selected to apply. I feel I am an acceptable candidate, for not only am I
J. B. Blakeman is the brother that I look up to and intend to shadow my experience as an Eagle and Greek Member. During my time at Morehead, I want to make sure that everything I do is to the best of my ability and benefits not only me, but also those in the community. I want to make sure that everything I do reflects my brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon and all of the fraternities in every perspective. One way that I plan on committing to this is to partner up with all of the sororities and fraternities to give back and to serve Morehead’s community by serving charities and other community events. Each semester I would like to have at least one partnership with every Greek organization that gives back by serving the people City of Morehead. I strive for the city of Morehead, Rowan County and all of Kentucky to remember Morehead State University as one of the leading schools around for Greek life community events. My long term goal is to create a new imprint that will quash the stereotypes of fraternities. The legacy that I want to leave is for fraternities to feel obligated to serve the community and be the best Eagle that a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon can
The men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated that I have had the privilege of being in contact with all were noble men and equally important leaders. I have had the privilege of interacting with many men throughout mentoring programs and community service projects and often found that those whom I deeply admire shared the common brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. My undergraduate advisor Dr. Fredrick S. Stephens is one of those men that have had a major impact in my life and induction into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. I come from a family that has strong beliefs in civic engagement. His example and guidance throughout my college experience challenged me to be greater leader and servant of m community. I needed that guidance to enhance my development as a professional social worker and in life.
I am interested in the Delta Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. at Cheyney University. Being a lifetime member of the first sorority for African-American women has sparked my interest since childhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means to me services provided by now all ethnicities for women to impact the community in a positive manner. The services since the beginning in 1908 have been immaculate. Many AKA’s were helping during the Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, and today are helping with Black Lives Matter. Being a potential member of this prestigious organization for a lifetime I believe will be able to make a difference on Cheyney University campus and surrounding areas.

It is unbelievable that I have been selected to potentially become an NHS member. As I look back on the last two and a half years of my high school career, I realize there have been many times that I could have given up on trying to achieve my academic goals. I have had opportunities to cheat and lie my way through it, but as a meticulous student chose to do my very best the honest way. I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average, so I am an incredibly hard-working student. I promise to continue to work hard in order to keep getting straight A’s and that is only one reason I should be chosen to be an official member of the National Honor Society.
Empowering the community is essential to its vitality and continuation. Within my small hometown of Riner, we try to support one another as much as possible and care deeply about our community. Despite recently moving to a town 30 minutes away, I still try to be an active participant in the Riner community. Service is an important aspect of my life and I am proud to help others however possible.
When I first received the letter inviting me to apply to the National Honor Society, my initial thoughts were of appreciation for the recognition of my hard work during this past academic year. To think of myself as a member of the NHS is an honor that could have a profound impact on my future. Over the past several years I have driven myself to become a much more motivated person. Along with achieving a GPA of 3.67, which is a personal best, I have also motivated myself to lose 35 pounds, which has helped me to have the self-confidence to take a more active leadership role in encouraging others to live a healthier lifestyle. To be considered a member of this prestigious organization is both an

Sitting in Calculus 1152, to my left is an education major, to my right a business major, and behind me is a computer science major. Everyday, I split my time between high school and attending classes at Ohio State. It is through this I realize the diversity and opportunities at OSU. Students from across the state and around the globe with a variety of academic interests live, learn, and work together to become better citizens through education. This diversity, in combination with the breadth of coursework offered at Ohio State, will prepare me well to be a contributing citizen of society.
